⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Scottish Bakehouse is an absolute gem on Martha's Vineyard! As a vegan, finding delicious and healthy options can sometimes be a challenge, but this place exceeded all expectations. Their selection of vegan baked goods is simply divine, from fresh breads to delectable pastries, each bite bursting with flavor and wholesome goodness. Not only is the food outstanding, but the prices are incredibly reasonable, making it accessible for everyone to enjoy. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, perfect for grabbing a quick bite or settling in for a leisurely meal. Whether you're a local or just visiting the island, Scottish Bakehouse is a must-visit destination. You won't be disappointed!

I used to love this place but I was extremely disappointed with my lunch this past Sunday. I placed my order online, and left my phone number. Apparently they ran out of the mango salsa, a key ingredient in the black bean plate, didn't bother to call me and when I got home with my meal I found some chopped tomatoes and red onions, massively disappointing. Why wouldn't you call the customer? I would have changed my meal entirely, instead I was stuck with a bland meal. On top of that the dish was 90% rice and only 2.5 plantains. I can't believe I paid $18 for that. At least the guy at the counter was friendly but that doesn't make up for the mediocre food. Honestly don't think I'll ever be back. As an island native I have religiously dined here every time I come to visit family, unfortunately this will be my last time. Makes me sad as this has always been my favorite island restaurant, especially since there aren't many vegan options here, but the quality had slowly decreased over the years and now I'll have to find new favorite.

I sent this picture of a cake for my daughters wedding picture 1 Only 3 tier and 6 layers , I do the flowers Look what I got for $600 picture 2 So disappointed If you can’t do the job don’t take the order Should be ashamed of you work and for charging that much I am not a part time resident I’ve lived here for 44,years and my husband is an Islander We support all island businesses Don’t worry All our 150 guests saw this work and know who produced it Bev Mazza

Google
Stop 1 on our State Rd morning bakery tour! Solid breakfast burrito and sausage egg and cheese. Baked goods were pretty good, but we didn’t see much in the way of Scottish menu items. Atmosphere is more of a quick stop for coffee and a sandwich to go than a sit and eat spot.

Visited in the morning on a Sunday in late August. Busy little shop, good amount of parking and outdoor seating. Friendly staff. Nice range of baked goods, sandwiches/burgers, pretty tasty coffee. Had a good visit here and would happily return again at some point in the future.

Google
Not impressed at all. The service was horrible. I think the name of the person that helped us was Rocco as noted on our receipt. Not friendly at all. Got some sandwiches and I asked for 2 bagels to go. The bagels were horrible. Like worse than bagels in the grocery store. Definitely not fresh. Not was I was expecting from a ‘bake house’. At least let us know before buying bagels for $5 each they aren’t fresh. We had our sandwiches outside. After checking out the bagels in the bag before we left I noticed they were very stale. Tried to return them and was told I can’t get a refund until the manager approves. I even asked for a gift card and denied. I left the bagels with the server and proceeded to call back 3 different times to talk with the manager. I was told each time that someone would give me a call back and yet no one has called me. DONT WASTE your time or your $$$ here. Can’t believe I spent $10 on 2 stale bagels and I couldn’t get even store credit.

Google
Smash burger? More like "Smash my hopes and dreams!" 🍔😢 This burger was about as smashed as a toddler's attempt at building a sandcastle. Two thick patties that could double as hockey pucks, and not a shred of cheese or sauce in sight. It's like they took the "smash" out of "smash burger" and replaced it with "sad." 😭

Google
The breakfast Sammy is the best and the prices are good! 2 eggs on the egg sandwich with a good amount of bacon! It's a must stop when we are on the island. Every bakery item I have ever had has been delicious!

Jeff G.

Yelp
Flourless chocolate cake! I can't leave the island without bringing one with me to family that have tried it during their visits. Thanks

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Loved the gluten and dairy free options. They had a vegan and gluten free chocolate cookie that was so delicious. They also are able to make an egg burrito into a bowl and the have gluten free toast. I did not enjoy the iced coffee. It seems they use hot coffee and put over ice and then the ice melts and it doesn't taste the same. Also, they need to clean up to front of the store. They are storing all sorts of drinks when you walk win and it looks messy.

Cas K.

Yelp
Ordered the breakfast sandwiches and got my money's worth in meat. Definitely no skimping at this place!!! 5/5

Pam M.

Yelp
Really good prices for the amount of food. I will admit Ive only had breakfast and baked goods. We usually stop her atleast 3 times while on the vineyard for a week and a BIG plus is they are open year round!

Elias G.

Yelp
We've been before a few years ago, but were grossed out the first time because of the number of flies on the food in the display cases. We hoped it would be different this time, but there were still flies on the food. Regardless, we tried some baked goods (from a case without flies in it), as well as a grilled cheese and turkey club. The turkey club was standard, with a lot of turkey. The grilled cheese was good, and very buttery. The cookies were actually quite yummy. We got hermits and ginger snaps. Both were soft and chewy and tasted great (addicting, really). If we come again, we'd probably only get the cookies and only if the fly problem is resolved, though.

Yelp
Used to be great but not so much anymore. Not a lot of baked goods and more Brazilian type food.

Maria S.

Yelp
Service is slow and unfriendly. No recipes like the original Scottish Bakehouse- no where is the giant, melt in your mouth Portuguese loaf or the hockey puck dense (but soooo delicious) scones. Not going back

Hailey M.

Yelp
Best breakfast sandwiches on the island!! Bacon sandy with the works will not disappoint. Cool little spot with great vibes and even better food.

Jaye G.

Yelp
It was disappointing, no longer a bakery, more like a sandwich pick up place for workers. The pastries they had we few and small.

Louise M.

Yelp
The food selection has been way more limited since COVID. No more omelettes or Quinoa burgers (two of their best items) and that's just a few items they took off the menu during COVID and they never returned. Some items are really expensive ($4.75 for a cookie!). They seem to go though staff quickly, a lot of them are very young and more into talking to each other than helping customers. Definitely order online or you will be waiting awhile. Portuguese sweet bread is the best on island, that's for sure! You can't sit inside, there are only a few outside tables. Good for breakfast sandwiches on the go in the summer (again, order ahead!), but they need to add the items they took away during COVID back on the menu and maybe teach staff to be more costumer oriented, not just to ignore you as they talk about their Spotify playlists.

Maria K.

Yelp
Had the absolute best brownie ever. Fantastic pastry and very good coffee. Can't wait to go back.

Art C.

Yelp
This place has a nice vibe... we were only outside of course because of covid, but the nice yard was more than perfect to devour some beautiful pastries. Every single item we purchased here was excellent... wanted to go back to get more but the line was way too long by the time we were done. Next time, Scottish Bakehouse... next time.

Doug M.

Yelp
Been coming here for years and have watched Scottish Bakehouse decline in quality and service each time. They used to be amazing and vibrant with terrific food and staff. Now there are apathetic employees that were finishing up their personal conversation while 4 groups waited for them to turn around. They couldn't crack a smile or show interest if you paid them. The food lost all of it's quality too. I was told they barely bake anything there anymore and it shows. Dry pastries that made me long for other MV bakeries. And then they look for the big tip at the end of the transaction?? If life is soooo bad, choose another career ! Never again! I was told and warned but had to see it for myself. This place should close and reopen with new ownership/management. Because it sucks! 1 star bumped up to 2 because one out of the five things I ordered was ok.

Tess D.

Yelp
Overpriced, average food, rude staff. The cookies are worth a stop but suggest going to one of the other wonderful options on MVY for sandwiches and other food options. Staff Pro tip: it's never a good look to be rude or condescending to a customer, particularly one who has waited 15+ minutes for their order. Simply apologize for the inconvenience and make it right.

Yelp
I stopped by here this past Sunday afternoon for a quick snack. This actually wasn't a planned stop and my wife happened to notice the Scottish Bakery as we were driving by. Since I had read good things about it I decided to turn around and head back to it. The inside of the shop here is what you expect from a bakery with tons of display cases filled with all sorts of imaginable sweets. They also served savory food here and from the cash register you could see into the kitchen and I was surprised with the number of people they had there. The inside of this bakery is fairly cramped and so all of the seating is outside with a majority of it being four-sided picnic tables. For our snack on this day my wife and I decided to split a croissant which had salami, manchego, cream cheese, chive, pesto and everything spice and also a blueberry lemon cheesecake bar. We ended up trying the croissant first and true to its name, it was light and flaky and tasted really good. Everything in the middle was just a bonus to the croissant itself and you can't go wrong with manchego and salami. After we had finished that we started in on the blueberry lemon cheesecake bar which was super delicious. It had the richness from the cheesecake that paired nicely with the tartness from the lemon and the sweetness from the blueberry. Within no time at all my wife and I had it finished! The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. My wife and I enjoyed the baked goods that we tried and would be interested in trying even more.

Yelp
Burger is fab!!! Looks like just a little beach cottage but the food is really great!

Lauren F.

Yelp
I highly recommend this place for dessert or lunch. They have a huge variety of sweets and sandwiches. It's great that they don't run out of things later in the afternoon either. I'm not quite sure why it is called a Scottish bakery because I didn't really see much that you can't find elsewhere. That being said l, I tried a lot of their desserts and loved them all! Their cookies and key lime tarts were wonderful! Brownies were fudgy and perfect! I also got the meatloaf sandwich on parmesan garlic spinach bread and loved it so much I came back the next day for another! There is limited counter seating indoors and a bunch of picnic tables so you can eat at outside. It also seemed like they had a good mix of paleo/gluten free options, although I didn't try any of that stuff.

Susanna H.

Yelp
I love getting coffee and wonderful freshly baked goods early in the morning from the Scottish Bakehouse. Often, my first words of the day are spoken here. The service is always friendly, and I love the unassuming charm of the space. When the weather gets warm, I enjoy a few peaceful moments at one of the outdoor picnic tables. Highly recommend!

Brit M.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite spots in MV! I usually only come here for cakes, but I decided to try them for lunch since they had vegan options. I gave the FBLT (fakin BLT) a try, without mayo. It was SO good! Not only did it taste good, but it made me feel good! My vegan cupcake for dessert made me even happier. My husband had the prosciutto sandwich and he said several times how good it was as he ate it... and he also enjoyed his snickerdoodle cookie. I also got beets, and the rice and beans. While I plan to eat those later, I decided to give them a taste. EVERYTHING was delicious. I can't wait to go to SB again. Definitely a hidden gem here on the island.

Andrew K.

Yelp
Amazing comfort food and terrific with food allergies. Love the Cuban Pork Plate, Tomatillo Chicken, and Mexican Rice and Beans.

David F.

Yelp
Two stars just for the decent sandwiches, but the grownups were apparently absent on the day we visited and, thus, our simple menu questions were greeted with extreme rudeness and unprofessional behavior. I won't go into great detail, but the service was a mess that day. There were three different menus -- online, blackboard, print -- all with different items and little indication as to what was actually available. The poor guy at the front window started things off by ringing up and charging us for sandwiches they didn't have. And it was downhill from there. Folks, don't wait on line and take abuse when there is much better takeout food, professional service and real manners delivered by the courteous servers at Black Dog or Humphrey's. Scottish Bakehouse just isn't worth it.

Tiffany L.

Yelp
Best shortbread ever, anywhere in the country - hands down!! ALL their stuff is great but their shortbread cookies are world-class!

Keval P.

Yelp
Underwhelming for food on the Vineyard, but definitely not worth the price. The lemon bar didn't taste fresh. The tater tots that I paid EXTRA for were soggy. The breakfast sandwich was not good. The English muffins were burnt to a crisp and the cheese was terribly melted. My tinfoil wrapper got more cheese than me due to bad packing. Unfortunate, due to the limited cafe options on the island

Vanny C.

Yelp
I made 2 visits here during my 3-day weekend in MV. That should say something about how good it is! They have the most reasonably priced quality breakfast items and coffee on the island, to my opinion. I believe my breakfast sandwich (with fresh veggies!!!) was $5 before tax and a medium (super strong and delicious) coffee was about...$3. You can't go wrong with those prices on vacation! I definitely plan on returning each time I return to the island. I also had a blueberry muffin that was so perfect. It was not too sweet and not too crumbly. I'd love to try more of their baked goods.

Madeline A.

Yelp
Very good food with tons of options for vegan/GF/paleo/etc. VERY covid freindly. Good baked goods too - definitely the best brownies I have EVERY had.

Chad S.

Yelp
Surprising in many ways! A dinner at The Scottish Bakehouse is an unforgettable experience, not to be missed. It's a beautiful establishment. The food is fantastic, and you'll be thinking about it long after the meal is over. The "Brazilian Styled" Chicken was fantastic. The wait staff left a lot to be desired, a bit unfriendly and they have a very nasty look about them. The wait is somewhat long for a take-out place so be aware your food will be a much later than the counter-help tells you. ( double what they tell you )

Christopher D.

Yelp
Always come here when I come to Martha's Vineyard! I can only speak to the breakfast items though, but their menu for lunch/dinner looks great. We ordered iced coffees here on multiple days, they have regular, hazelnut, and decaf. We got breakfast sandwiches here, which everyone enjoyed - the sausage was probably the favorite meat for the breakfast sandwich amongst the group. We also got some baked goods, which, if you come early enough in the morning, you can get a deal on some of the day old baked goods. I would definitely recommend the breakfast sandwich, their muffins, and if you go on the weekend, get the donuts! We got an apple cinnamon donut that they recommended heating in the microwave, it was the best apple cinnamon donut we ever had!

Kathleen B.

Yelp
Everything is good here. Huge selection of homemade cookies and bars and tarts, including gluten free and vegan. Terrific chicken salad of several types in pints for take home. I can't drive past this place without stopping.

Emmy M.

Yelp
The breakfast sandwiches took 30 min to make. One of them was missing cheese and when my sister told them there was no cheese on it, they replied "yes there is" but there was literally no cheese on it. The other breakfast sandwich was burnt. And, the other breakfast sandwich had barely any avocado on it (look at the picture) even though it costs $1 to add avocado on it. One positive note, the vegan bacon was good! I understand it is the busiest time of the summer, but that doesn't mean they should slack. Overall, I wouldn't recommend :/

Kurt K.

Yelp
Had no desire to go to this bakery. My friends has Celiac, he wanted to try this place. First, they do have many quality gluten free options. However, they also have many delicious options that have gluten. I ordered a grilled cheese and a few treats. The sandwich was fine, no complaints, but nothing to rave about. The iced oatmeal raisin cookie, also fine. Why the five stars then? Oh, the brownie. The mint brownie is outstanding. My friends and I were debating what was in it, Nutella, fudge, God's grace, not sure. But I will be going back next year and ordering all the brownies. All of them. All. Go, brownie, experience joy.

Alexander M.

Yelp
It's arguably the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I grew up here and unfortunately the new staff working the registers doesn't even acknowledge your presence when your inside. You eventually get greeted with an eye roll when they realize they have to stop looking at their cell phone and stop talking amongst themselves to help you. The final straw is when I left a nice cash tip and not even eye contact or a thank you or have a nice day just nothing should be self-checkout moving forward IMO!

Joshua H.

Yelp
Stopped here for a breakfast sandwich and some coffee before going up island. The food was delicious but basic. No frills but good food. The iced coffees were great and outdoor seating was nice.

Kate A.

Yelp
Love the SB. Food is fresh, well-made, generously portioned and well-priced. There are a lot of healthy and vegetarian options but also items like beef burgers if you'd prefer otherwise. By now we've pretty much tried everything on the menu (except tofu) and ranges from solidly good to excellent. Ingredients are fresh -- from veggies like bok choy and fresh greens to high quality prosciutto and local beef. Chicken dishes are cooked perfectly juicy and mildly well seasoned. Plus the staff are patient, pleasant and helpful. The only weak part may be the desserts -- they are OK to good but not great, some of the sweet tarts like almond a bit dry, desserts in a cup not as rich/flavorful as you'd expect, but on the plus side, we're guessing from the taste that they contain less sugar than your averaged resto dessert.

Kaitlynn M.

Yelp
Scottish Bakehouse is as good as it gets on the island for baked goods. Whether it is breads, sweets or now sandwiches -- They are masters at it all. Today I went for breakfast (which they serve all day) and ordered the breakfast sandwich with "the works". It was fantastic. They make their own english muffins and the bacon on the sandwich was extra crispy (just how I like it!). My mom had the breakfast burrito, and unlike many other breakfast burritos, this was not messy at all! It had delicious and flavorful guacamole on the inside and was wrapped in a whole wheat wrap. We also got shortbread, macaroons and the melt in your mouth brownie. If you like chocolate at all, you NEED to get the brownie. It is incredible. The woman sitting next to me had the brown rice bowl, which also looked amazing. I had food envy and cannot wait to go back for lunch!

Matt W.

Yelp
Very good breakfast sandwiches and coffee which tasted good and were adequately priced. The online ordering and pickup system seemed to function well. Only thing is wished the iced coffee was a bit stronger. However, if your on the island this place is definitely worth the stop.

Cat M.

Yelp
I really liked this place... Until they started adding in their own tips! We bought overpriced cookies and bread (half the price down the street at the Black Dog.) The total would have been around $23, and then she rings it up and says.$26 something. Most likely if I was paying cash, I wouldn't have really thought much other than maybe prices increased, but, when I went to swipe/pay with my CC, I realized they automatically ad in their own tip of 15%! The girl knew this too, and didn't inform us. I had to scroll over to mark it no tip, which it should automatically start on. $23 for cookies that you act like is me bothering you when I order... You have to work?!? And you expect a tip to go with your overpriced items and bad attitude?! Absolutely not. And BTW, one of the cookies had a giant hair in it. NEVER AGAIN.

Pamela J.

Yelp
Best gluten free selection of baked goods hands down. Luckily it wasn't crowded today so I was in and out without much effort. I snagged the last cheese bread, which I love, and sampled some delicious shortbread. Food case had already run out of most items or else I would have purchased more stuff to go. Missed my ferry leaving the island last year as the breakfast line was so long. I don't think I'd go back for breakfast sandwiches...lol!

Jen A.

Yelp
The food is decent to good. Bakery offerings are varied and interesting. However the counter staff are incredibly douchey and self-involved. Note, that for the pleasure of their company they have pre-programmed check out so that you are paying them a 15% tip. In fact, by the time you leave, you will want them to pay you for the discomfort and annoyance of having to deal with their immature personalities. Be prepared to have trend-guppy baristas look down their noses is at you while grudgingly answering questions and laconically attending to orders between checking their cell phones. Managment is not being done a service by these folks. I'd recommend some customer service training so that the bad attitudes don't spoil the good food.

Annie M.

Yelp
Egg sandwiches are the best I've had in my life. I could spend all day perusing the baked goods. I would eat here every day if I could. Order ahead!

Michelle H.

Yelp
After a week on the island, this was one of our favorites. I kept getting the shortbread as a post-meal treat. Any of their more traditional Scottish baked goods are a win (shortbread, scones, the congo bar). The beau and I *loved* the meatloaf sandwich (got it a second time). The Brazilian plate is a solid meal as well. Going back: yep. We did while we were there! I'd get the meatloaf sandwich, shortbread and congo bar.

Mark J.

Yelp
Ridiculously slow service. Prepare yourself for a 30 min wait for take out breakfast. Very disorganized tourist trap. Don't bother.

Dan H.

Yelp
It took about 15 minutes to receive the food I ordered (a grilled cheese sandwich). It was ordinary.

Bruce M.

Yelp
We have been fans of the Scottish Bakehouse for years but this year things have gone downhill. For example, a couple of days ago I ordered a stir fry. Not only was it overcooked but it tasted like they just through the ingredients together without any attention to how it would taste. There was way too much soy sauce and seemed to be no other spicing. The overall impression was that the food was just slapped together. We got a pie a few days before that and it was quite tasty, although the bottom crust was under cooked and mushy. One bad dish can happen anywhere but this summer the Scottish Bakehouse seems to be resting on their laurels and not paying a lot of attention to their products.

Mike H.

Yelp
Had a moldy apple turnover and the linguica roll was getting tired as well. Coffee was decent.

Kate R.

Yelp
Confusing layout .. Where do you order ? We though we were in line to order but found a woman with a tablet taking orders too? Highly recommend ordering online. People not sure where to wait vs ordering.Looks like behind the building there are hoop houses where they grow veggies. There is outdoor seating.

Sharon A.

Yelp
Great bakery and cafe! I just had a great coconut tofu platter with perfectly cooked rice and Brussels sprouts. Hubby had the burger, which he said is the best he's had in a while. Juicy, flavorful, and served between homemade bread. Coffee is strong. Baked products are super tasty. We've had the Congo bar, the chocolate croissant, and the paleo goodness bar. Front counter people are great. We waited a little long for our food and they gave us a bottle of fizz on the house for being patient and stuff. This is a great place to eat on the island!

Arty C.

Yelp
I love the Scottish Bakehouse. It was recommended by a local as a go-to-4-breakfast place. Revisiting MV we took the red eye ferry and rushed to have breakfast here. The egg sandwich and the breakfast burrito were beyond delicious. It is hard to describe them as anything else than a perfect breakfast. Followed by the ring of fire coffee - we were ready to start our event packed day on the Vineyard = )

Jessica H.

Yelp
Out of the way spot to get funky sandwiches and dishes. A must visit for any vineyard trip!!

Walter W.

Yelp
They have the most incredible breakfast sandwiches and really strong coffee. Their baked goods are fresh and we love the scones best.
