I was looking for a present for my father. He likes to drink whiskey and I wanted something special from Brooklyn. Here I was doubly find. They had Van Stained Stillhouse plus an own bottling "Rye", which can be bought only in this store in Brooklyn. World class!

A really great wine cellar. Highly recommended. Beautiful choices of good wines, and excellent advice by the friendly staff. They try to help you and find the right match for your taste and needs, within your price range. In so many places they just try to sell you a more expensive bottle. Not here..

Scotto’s will frequently have wine vendors come in and host wine tastings, I am so glad that I showed up for the De Grendel Sauvignon Blanc from the Cape of Good Hope, South Africa. It paired deliciously with a blackened Mahi Mahi I prepared. The sommeliers at Scotto’s Wine Cellar are engaging, interested in what you are doing and are very knowledgeable. They make it easy for a gourmet to look like a trained chef who knows her wine.

This store used to be a neighborhood gem. It's now a total wreck and it's such a loss. I moved to the neighborhood about 6 years ago and I have seen this store decline before me. In the last 2 or 3 months have been especially terrible. It used to be well staffed with friendly and knowledgeable people. I especially enjoyed Kim's recommendations. She and every female employee there were superstars! The delivery guys are also super friendly and you can tell they work hard. The owner though is a total fool. He never followed up with me about a Thanksgiving wine and I've witnessed him confuse people both in person and on the phone. You can tell he is a disorganized and overbearing boss. I've heard him and it makes me angry for the few employees he has left. It's no wonder his store is not staffed. I know customers who no longer shop there. It's very sad but spend your money in other great wine shops!!! This store will close soon- I made a bet with someone about it closing soon!

This used to be a great neighborhood spot. Sadly it's now a shadow of what it once was. There used to be super helpful girls at the counter. Now when I go in there are only some older men working who are nice enough I guess but seem to be doing a million things at once. The owner looks angry and tired. The delivery guys look stressed and seem to be overworked. when I tried to ask one about why the store looked in such terrible shape he only said I'm sorry but he didn't offer any explanation. The store used to be vibrant, but now it's like on life support. I've been in the neighborhood since 1998, and I can say I'm embarrassed at what it has become. I went to another wine shop on Atlantic Avenue, and asked them if they knew whether Scotto's changed owners or management and the gentleman said it was the same owner but whose longstanding problems had finally caught up to him. I wonder what happened but it's clear that he can't keep his staff. I used to love getting my wine here but sadly it's a dumpster now with no friendly faces and virtually no staff and no decorations and no one who remembers your name. Go to another neighborhood spot. This one is terrible! I wish i could leave zero stars because its that bad

I visited this wine shop to find two white wines for a friend's dinner. One of the staff members, a gentleman with gray hair, was incredibly knowledgeable about the Verdejo I was seeking. He recommended an amazing one and also suggested a blend. I highly recommend this place!

James and the whole crew at Scotto's run a perfect neighborhood wine & spirits store. Every member of the store was quick to help and James was kind and personable, and helped me find a hard to track down bourbon. Then walked me through their single-barrel program with Van Brunt and gave me a taste of their Rye. Large selection of wines and spirits as extremely fair prices. Really wonderful place and am relieved to know I now have my neighborhood spot. Could not ask for a better experience.

I continue to patronize this adorable wine, spirits and so much more business. Yes it's a bit cramped but there's a great selection of Red, White, Rose Wines to name a few--Orange Wine? Check. Reisling? Check. Varieties of Vodka and Rum? You bet. From Aperol and St Germain to Pimm's and Bailey, there's a wide variety at different price points. Need help? The best part is that the knowledgeable staff will assist and come up with suggestions you didn't think of. An old reliable, quality wine shop in Carroll Gardens. My favorite.

The nicest most helpful staff, an incredible selection at really good prices. Need a great bottle of champagne for less than $50, they've got 15. Need an amazing bottle of white for $18 or less, they've got tons. I couldn't possibly love this shop anymore and am so grateful they're in my hood.

I love Scotto's. Not only for their immense selection of wine, but largely for their customer service. They are the friendliest, most down to earth and knowledgable bunch, with not even a tinge of snobbery. Go ahead and ask them for a recommendation, whether it be based on what you're cooking for dinner or a regional preference or a price, they'll know what to pick. We were particularly impressed with them after an unfortunate port incident. We bought a bottle of port and the cork ended up disintegrating and seeping into the wine. Time got the best of us and we weren't able to make it back to Scotto's until a few weeks later to tell them about it. We didn't have a receipt so figured it was a long shot that they could help us out, but they did without question. First they gave us a new bottle, and second they let us borrow a strainer that allowed us to enjoy the first bottle without any cork residue! They also have almost daily wine or liquor tastings which are always fun. Go check them out!

This place has to have some of the nicest staff of any independent wine shop I've been to. I called a few weeks ago inquiring about a bottle of wine after a Google search led me here and the guy I spoke to could not have been any nicer. He didn't have any in stock but did confirm that they do carry it. He even offered to track it down elsewhere in the borough. I didn't need it immediately so I waited a week until it was back in stock and then went down to the shop. Cozy and jam packed with all sorts of gorgeous bottles of red, white and rose. I asked about that bottle of Riesling I was searching for and they knew exactly where it was. i was in and out in about ten minutes but I think I'll be spending more and more time here in the future.

Arrived at Lucali for some supposedly incredible pizza, only to find out that they are BYOB. Solution: find nearest wine shop. That happened to be Scotto's. We rolled inside, asked the guy working for some red table wine. Following his recommendation, we grabbed a pair of Cali Shiraz, paid the man, and went to dinner. The wines were awesome and at exactly the price we wanted to pay (10 per). It saddens me that I won't be in Gowanus more often.. Because I would definitely go back. If you find yourself dry at Lucali, I suggest you do exactly what we did!

Scotto's is a wonderful liquor store (not just wine, as the name implies!). They stock a lot of products from local wineries and distilleries. This includes (but is definitely not limited to): Brooklyn Oenology, Breuckelen Gin, and whoever makes that Court Street wine). When we were there, one of the founders from Breuckelen Gin was in the back giving out samples of their gin, whiskey, and gin/whiskey blends. All delicious and worth trying if you're a fan of either type of liquor. he was super friendly, and it was a good environment for a tasting (though not a lot of room in the back). Other than that, the shop has a great selection of wine and gin. Though, I will say that their whiskey selection could use some help. Maybe I just overlooked it, but they really didn't have that much in the way of mid-top shelf bourbon. Worth going to if it's on your way or if you live nearby!

Easily one of the best wine and spirits stores in Brooklyn. It's retro, it's cool, got some of the feeling of a cave and the people here are top notch, customer centric, and knowledgeable. Highly recommended! P.s. Check out their barrel picks.

Best selection of wines in Carroll Gardens. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Ask them questions, there are a lot of wines in that store, and many options at all price levels. They will help you, I promise! Great selection of Long Island and Italian wines.

Good selection of wines, although I must gripe about the ID checking process. Went in with two friends (both over 21) and purchased a bottle of wine. When it came time to pay, clerk asked for my ID (totally acceptable) and then the ID of both my friends. She had to scan them, which took a while, all for a bottle of wine. in BROOKLYN. what is this the deep south or some middle-of-the-buttcrack-mid-west?? I can't lol Other than that mostly good store. Just a bit off this wine store did that when countless others in Brooklyn do not do this.

Scotto's is my go-to place for the vino, if only because the first time I went in Scotto knew what I was talking about when I asked if he had any mulling spices. Liquor stores can't sell food products in NY, but Scotto had several recipes behind the bar, and recommended several wines which were great mulled. It's easy to browse the store so you'll find something worth drinking.

We LOVE this store and the people who work there. They have a really nice selection of wine (with plenty of roses!) which is very accessible + they have a great skill with food and wine matching. I often run in and tell them what we're having for dinner and go home with a really lovely bottle that compliments it beautifully. Cheap prices for name-brand liquor. Very reasonable wine (unlike the other stores in the area). Extremely helpful staff. I love this place! For instance, today we stopped by to look for a good white wine for mussels. I grabbed a $10 white based on the helpful label provided by the staff, then asked a staff member if it was appropriate for steamed mussels. He said, "Yes, absolutely -- are you white wine drinkers?" When I told him no, not really, he said, "I can suggest a cheaper white if it's just for cooking." So nice. It doesn't just seem to be about the bottom line here, and I appreciate that. I'll walk five or ten extra minutes to come here instead of the other neighborhood wine/liquor stores.

I love Scotto's and here's why - As the neighborhood has changed to accommodate all of us Gentrifiers, Scotto's remains a little oasis of old school Carroll Gardens. I moved here fifteen years ago, when Court Street had a few bakeries, deli's, some sketchy bars, and Scotto's. (Union Market was a Blockbuster!) Whenever I bought a bottle of wine, they would take payment, look at my credit card and say, "Thank you Kimi." They still do. When I got married eight years ago, I bought my wine and Champagne there. They not only gave me the 15% per case discount, but also LEANT ME a few boxes wine glasses - of course at no charge. They simply asked that I bring them back washed. Scotto's has a great selection of wines and spirits from around the world- great California wines, but also a large selection of French, Italian and Austrian Gruner Veltliners- (What I'm drinking now). I'm loyal to this friendly shop, which always offers help, and I enjoy the packed isles of stacked cases of wines on sale, with hand-written descriptions. If my bags are too big or I have too many, I leave them by the counter, and have no problem turning sideways to let another customer pass.

Been going her for many years and cannot recommend the sure strongly enough. They always have great recommendations, are terrific about delivery and great people. A fantastic neighborhood wine store!

I can't say enough positive things about this place. They have a comprehensive, interesting selection of wine and spirits and will always take the time to give thoughtful recommendations and educate you along the way. In over a decade in which I've lived in the neighborhood, they have never steered me wrong. They really get to know their regular customers, too, which comes in handy when I need to buy my landlord a "thanks for keeping the rent down" holiday gift. Shout out to Nina at the front desk, one of the nicest people in the hood.

We worked with Scotto's for our wedding in December, and I can't praise them highly enough. First of all, they were highly knowledgeable, and asked good questions about what we wanted (while being understanding at my lack of knowledge!) and helped us get exactly the wines and liquors we wanted. Secondly, they offered a good price - not cheap, but certainly fair and better than other stores. Lastly, they offered a great service, delivering the alcohol and helping us make sure the day went off without a hitch.

I am not a big wine expert so not sure if the selection here is good or bad but what I love about this place is the service. Each week I would come in and ask for a recommendation and each time I would get a delicious wine in return. In fact, they helped me pick out the wine for my wedding. It was great! You can tell they really know their wines here. Highly recommend if you need recommendations.

While visiting family in Brooklyn and on our way to a local pizzeria that is BYOB, we were baffled as all of the liquor stores/wine shops were closed and thought we'd have to go without. As we approached Scotto's, we noticed that Jim, the owner, was closing up shop so asked if he knew of another place that was open. He knew that we would not have much luck and re-opened his shop just for us! As if that weren't enough, he helped us to select the best wine for our budget that accompanied our dinner. He went above and beyond. The wines were excellent. Jim really has a passion for what he does and it shows not only by knowing his wines, also by the way he caters to his customers. When we visit NYC/Brooklyn again, we'll be sure to pay Scotto's a visit. Thanks again Jim!

My goto place for purchasing French wine. Great selections without breaking your wallet.

A great liquor store in my new neighborhood. Prices and selection are good, and the folks who work there are knowledgeable and very friendly. And, they now stock Crème de Violette, which I've been dying to try. Sweet!

Selection was fine (I was looking for a chilled bottle of Champagne- they had the usual), but staff didn't offer to help and wasn't super friendly, which annoyed me because I bought a pretty nice bottle. I was also afraid I was going to knock over the shelves, which were very tightly packed in, with my handbag. But that could also be because my bag is bigger than I am.

Have patronized the store many times. Normally great, but I recently bought a relatively older wine from them (listed via the website) that was not advertised as torn label (nothing suggested the condition was other than excellent), and indeed the label was significantly - very much - torn when they presented the bottle to me. No mention was even made of it as they handed it to me - no acknowledgement or apology that it was not as advertised. To be honest, I probably should have refused to accept the bottle or insisted on a discount, as is customary when an older bottle is being sold in less than perfect condition, but I needed that bottle (it was a particular vintage) for a gift on short notice, so I took it. That's my fault, but it doesn't change the nature of the interaction. I'm highly disappointed that I was given a torn label bottle even though that is NOT what I had agreed to purchase.

The gentlemen helped me pick out a nice wine for a friend's birthday party dinner and I know nothing about wine. Just his simple descriptions and persuasions made me buy the Cabernet Savignon, and mostly everyone at the party liked it. Gracias!

I love wine. I am picky about my wine. I'm also FUCKING broke, as opposed to just regular broke. All of these things together amount to a serious problem when trying to buy bottle of wine! Scotto's wine cellar is my solution. The staff is ever-ready with recommendations, and I have yet to be disappointed. Huge selection in the $8-$12 range. (way better than Smith & Vine down the street, though I do go there sometimes for their monday discount... and then regret it, because the cheap wines just taste so much better from Scotto's.)

Scotto's is our family's wine merchant of choice. They help with pairing wines to menus, and of course budgets, and are the nicest people, period. They are generous about make-goods and have come through for us, big parties and small dinner parties, for more than twenty years. No snootiness, just smart and real.

Family place it seems like. If so the daughters are cute, that's for sure. Prices are ok for New York, selection is solid. I like Old Brooklyn on Union better, but before that opened this was as good as it got n the Gardens.

Perfect neighborhood wine spot. The way to get the best wine here is to ask the owners for what you want. I usually hate dealing with salespeople, but here it is totally worth it. They have a fantastic selection of cheaper wines ($10-$20 range) which makes them very accessible, and definitely my go-to wine store in the neighborhood. Plus, they are super nice, friendly, helpful and allow dogs. ;)

There's a terrific neighborhood atmosphere at Scotto's were the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They carry a good selection of local, regional, and imported wines and liquors. Their prices are very reasonable, and great discounts when you buy by the case.

Great selection, good prices, but among that wonderful people. It happened to me to break the bottle I just bought a block away from the store. They replaced it with no charge and even better a smile !

This is a classic wine shop from way back. Very cozy feeling, the kind of place you want to shop at for the holidays. They know thier stuff and the wines are well chosen with some very hard to find values and an excellent selection of small production Napa. I bought the Fairhope Napa and North Coast Cabs, they're not easy to find. Great service as well. Definitely on the top of the list of places to shop in BKLYN.

haven't spent that much time in the other areas but the back section on French wines is great. have stayed mostly in the Rhone and have purchased a few bordeax's and wines from the chateaneauf de pape -regions for reasonable prices ($25-50). nice selections....

A better alternative to the close-by Smith & Vine. It looks like a family-run shop, not "hip" by any means but their selection has a good blend of old world and new wines. They often bring in wines if you request them, and I have had great staff recommended bottles so far.

After living in the neighborhood for about 5 months Scotto's has become our go-to store for wine and spirits. I find the staff to be extremely helpful and accessible and the prices and selection are the best in the neighborhood. My only complaint is that I wish they were open a bit later on the weekend!

The Scotto's staff was very helpful and friendly when we needed to order wine and liquor for our rehearsal dinner and wedding. It's also my local wine shop; but if it wasn't, it would be now!

Wonderful local wine and spirits store. They have a really good selection and are very helpful. I also really appreciate that if I give them a price range, they don't try to upsell me to wines or liquors that are more than the price range that I'm looking for. They've always come through with good suggestions and very reasonably priced wines.
