We stayed for a week while walking and birdwatching. I was delighted to find that although upgraded in comfort, the hotel is still the same friendly place I enjoyed 25 years ago or so. Our room (no 4) was very comfortable and there was plenty of hot water, much needed after a full day's walking. No television, which to us is an advantage! We enjoyed our full Scottish breakfasts, packed lunches and dinners. There are four choices of starter, main course and desert on the menu which changes daily, and we enjoyed all that we had. There is no piped music in the dining room, and there was a good buzz of conversation of satisfied guests. The lounge and bar are comfortable, and with chilly weather I enjoyed the open fire in the main lounge, and could see others did also, relaxing with books on the wetter afternoons. Other guests were a mixture of fishermen (the hotel specialises in fishing, with over 300 lochs available for guests to fish), walkers and birdwatchers, and shorter stay guests doing the NC500. People chat to each other: it's a convivial place, aided, I am sure, by the excellent range of whiskies behind the bar. It was a very happy stay for us, and I hope we'll return.
