On the Grid : Scout Antique & Modern

"Vintage treasure hunters rejoice. The folks from Scout already found that cool thing you were looking for, and all you have to do is saunter in, plunk down your cash, and walk out with your Eames chair/oil painting/brass bookends. The well organized shop is full of handpicked art, decor, furniture, and industrial salvage, and the eclectic offerings are always changing." - Bullhorn

Favorite place for antiques in Lexington by far. Jeff always has cool and new things daily. He also sold a painting I created!

I went to a different vintage shop, and owner said make sure to stop at Scout. I'm so glad I did because it's one of the best vintage shops I've ever been to. Everything has so much character and you can tell it is all lovingly selected and curated. If I had more money, I would gladly spend it here - had a great time looking at everything. Definitely a highlight of my trip to Kentucky.

Freddy the owner was super rude. We had a couch on hold for 2 days. We didn’t pick up the next day because the rain. When we came to pick up we found the couch was damaged on the back side. Of course we didn’t see the damage because it was against the back wall of the store. When we seen the damage we decided not to buy it. He started having a bad attitude about the whole ordeal. He never said anything about the damage on the first visit. Just wasted our time.

This is one of those home decorating stores you go into and come out wishing you had a larger home. Very unique and fascinating items and as an almost professional shopper for my home, and having shopped all over the south, this store still had items I have seen no where else. Some of it was a bit pricey, other pieces reasonable but if you are in the area this is a must to check out. It's also located by other shops for home decorating making it a nice place to stop for an hour or 2.

Google
This was a cool mid-century and recent "antique" store. Not your average antique mall. Lots of upscale, high quality offerings. I was pleasantly surprised. Although I was traveling through, if I'd had the means to haul some furniture home, I might have been tempted to buy. Will certainly keep an eye on this place as I travel through central Kentucky. Recommend.

I second the reviews about these rudeness and the staring. I went on a snowy day to drop a bunch of items to sell off at Room Service next door but they were closed. I noticed one of their workers creepily staring at me while I was walking up to go into Room Service. Once I found out Room Service was closed I went next door to Scout to see if they would take them. They acted really haughty and nasty when I asked if they wanted to sell them and said they already had too many small things. I looked around their store and most everything there was junk. I had 15th century Chinese pieces and other really nice things. For those junk collectors to turn their noses up at my things is ridiculous. I later brought the items to Room Service and they priced the relatively small basket of items I had at almost $3,000. Thank goodness Scout didn't take them because those hipster jerks surely didn't have the knowledge and skills to price these items accurately. Also, it was pretty nasty for them to move in right next to Room Service which has been there since I can remember.

I had never been in this store before but a friend recommended I go there as I am in the market for a specific piece of furniture. I was never acknowledged when I entered the store (stared at). The dozen or so people who came in after me all got 'Hello' or 'How are you today?' etc. Needless to say, if I had I found what I was looking for I would not have bought it. It might just be paranoid but I think they have a problem with serving people of color. They don't need to worry I will not do business with them. There are too many other options to give them a second thought. I write this post to warn anyone who is not white to avoid this place.

Google
GOOD: Wide variety and mix 20th century antiques. Clean, attractive shop. Friendly staff. BAD: Nothing bad to report. FYI: About the size of a fast food restaurant—not big enough to be a visitor destination on its own, but great enough to be included with other similar shops. Certainly should be included in regular rounds for locals.

Yelp
I continue to find multiple unusual and stylish pieces here. Things that have become statement pieces throughout my home. It's my number one shop in Lexington, and probably my number one shop. Period. They have a huge inventory that changes daily and an amazing Instagram feed full of good finds (act quickly, sometimes things sell in seconds). You can visit over and over and will always see something new. This is high level stuff, and the prices reflect that, but there are also many modestly priced pieces, and everything is fairly priced. Jeff and his crew, as well as the other dealers, really have an eye for design. I can't recommend this place enough, over and over.

Yelp
I love Scout they have awesome furniture and modern and antique items in their store. I have a leather couch I bought here years ago that I still love. I have bought modern glass tables a set of three which I mix with my transitional furniture style. I enjoy shopping here because the vendor booths are so interesting to explore. I like mid century modern and they often have just stunning pieces in this style.

Yelp
Omgosh.....I have furniture to sell before I move out of state. I heard about Scout, so I called to inquire. The guy was SO rude and pompous!! Because I mentioned to him that I was (just starting to) post some nice furnishings (antiques and fine furniture) online, he shot back at me saying that because I just advertised online that he would never consider consigning my furnishings! The tone he spoke to me in was jaw-dropping. HELLO.....I would NEVER consider consigning with him, much less shopping his store. This level of arrogance really took me by surprise. For those of you out there that consider consigning with this man, be prepared to be treated like a piece of garbage.

Yelp
I've followed this place on Instagram for a while but never knew it existed when I lived here! Give them a follow @scoutlexington on Insta as they post cool items they have in their shop for availability. For a mid century modern geek, this is a dream! It's in a super convenient area near downtown and is located next to other antique shops as well. If you like mid century, this is a place for you! Not a waste of time at all like other antique malls can be sometimes

Yelp
This is the mother of perpetual help icon original copy I found this painting in my grandfather's attic he was war 2 vet so it's understandable why he would have such a precious relic best offer not sure what ok or were to sell this but I do know this will make it to a museum some were.

Yelp
A balance of quality new and older pieces here, however I do think the prices are a bit steep. Definitely nice pieces to browse and pretty Christmas lights they had up inside.

Yelp
Scout Antique & Modern is located at the end of Liberty Road down by where it meets Winchester Road. It is an antique/consignment shop. Here you will find anything and everything for your house. They carry lots of vintage and hard to find items. Every item here is completely unique and their stock changes daily. Like my mama says, "You can't afford not to buy it when you find something you like." That is a super good motto. The guys here are really friendly and helpful. The way the store is laid out gives you an idea of how it might look in your house. They also make a odd, but tasteful collections of items that you wouldn't normally match up. It is kind of a home designers dream. It kind of makes you feel like an interior designer yourself when you buy items from here. If you are ever in the area, I would suggest to stop in and have a look around. I guarantee someone behind the counter will greet you, ask you how you are doing, and see if you need assistance in finding anything. That is just a bit of customer service you don't get at most places. Please note they are normally not the cheapest place around, but its worth it. I go here quite often. I also follow them on Instagram, they usually put up pics of their newest items on there. Which kind of saves my ass the trouble of going down to see it immediately. Very nice

Yelp
make a stop every few years- ENJOY it for the diversity / quality. Found three pieces- two Mid-Century modern and one circa 1910 - all treasures and reasonably priced. well worth the stop to look and explore-

Yelp
I had stopped in several times and finally found the right set of chairs. I believe i met the owner the first time and had a great customer service encounter though he was busy. After a week of deliberation i purchased two chairs. The staff was great, helped me load the chairs and quelled any last second indecision with "if you get home and don't like them, give us a call and we can work it out". I'm a fan and will be back. Good people, good products, good experience.

Yelp
I've only been here a time or two but both times it was like going into a complete different store! It was maybe 4 days between visits and they stock had changed that much!!! I found while there 2 of the cutest chairs I'd ever seen and was dying to buy them lol! But like a couple other reviews said, it is a bit pricey, but not like insanely over priced or nothing it was just on the higher end retail pricing. Anyways I love the place and can't wait to take my wife to see the amazing stuff they have!!!

Yelp
A little pricey on some things, but also some cool, affordable pieces. But hey, it is an antique store, so that's to be expected. Not as big as most antique stores I've been in, but they did have some awesome finds that I wish I could have taken home with me. Really regretting leaving a couple things behind!

Yelp
I have to say hands down it's the best antique store in Lexington. Friendly helpful staff and I found lots of great unique items. Thanks again.

Yelp
A must-see for decorators and casual looky-loos alike! This is the kind of place you'll come back to often, because it's unique, the merch changes every time you're in, and because you will always find something outstanding to buy. The staff and the owner Jeff are extremely friendly and helpful. I have purchased tables, wall art, sculptures, mirrors, frames, patio stuff, and it's all one-of-a-kind. 5-STARS!!!

Yelp
Next to another resale shop on Liberty Road, Scout is worth the trip if you are looking for some pretty cool stuff--vintage things, not "fine antiques", and some well made used furniture from yesteryear. The store is narrow and items are arranged in alcoves and nooks. The staff is friendly and will make a call to a "higher up" if there is a question about the origin of a retail item. You can find expensive Julep cups and moderately priced jewelry, furniture and framed prints. There is also a lot of "Lexington" stuff for those who are into that. I've seen Faulkner sketches and a sign from Mia's. What makes this place neat is the range of prices and the artful display. One could find things for a starter home or a dorm room. There also are high-end pieces, too, that a decorator could use to make a home unique. In addition, there are also items that would look great ina refurbished loft if your taste leans to industrial. I'd encourage you to check out Scout. It's more than a resale shop, and it definitely reflects the personality of its owners with its cool displays. Scout is open seven days a week, although on Sunday they have shortened hours from 1-5 PM. Lexington has a shortage of cool shops, so Scout definitely fills a void.

Yelp
Interesting shop with an eclectic mix of items old and new. Excellent if you are furnishing or decorating a house. Lots of eye-catchers. Staff was friendly and helpful. Worth a stop!

Yelp
This place rocks. We have slowly but surely furnished our condo with pieces from here. Though our visit to purchase ratio is probably 100:1, the staff still remains friendly to me and my wife. We enjoy running into locals here and talking fashion (or lack thereof) with everyone who works there. This is one of the few antique places in the area that doesn't focus on heavy, grandmotherly, victorian heavy pieces. You'll find more of a mid century / industrial theme here, but there is something for pretty much every taste.

Liz G.

Yelp
This felt more like a place for interior designers than a retail shop. The prices are high for many items (much higher than other similarly sized stores), which may mean they're open to negotiating. But nothing really unusual about this place, maybe they were low on stock?
