On the Grid : Wired Up Records

"If you never knew the legend that was Domy Books (RIP 2006-2013), Wired Up Records can give you a little snapshot of what once was. And it reenforces the rumor that the East End is slowly becoming the Montrose of 1992. The record store is connected to [Cutthroat](http://www.onthegrid.city/houston/east-end/cutthroat-eastside) by a magic portal of time and space, so plan accordingly. The guy working in front of the shelves of curated art/design books, t-shirts, and movies is Bucky (of Domy fame), and you should go buy things from them so we can shut down Amazon and the world can be real again." - Primer Grey

Awesome experience. I've been listening to screwed up music since I was a teen. I was in the area, so I had to make that trip and knock it off my bucket list. Staff was polite and kind, bought 2 shirts for my collection.

Yelp
Pulled up to the Screw Shop a last Saturday to grab some newly released music by the Late Great Dj Screw! 22 years later and there are still mix tapes that are being released! Everyone at the shop always show "Screw Love" and it was a cool experience to go shopping there.

Yelp
Let me start by saying how professional this business is they treated us like family and welcomed us with open arms. Both employees working there had great energy that was easy to reciprocate. The selection of shirts ,screw cds , bobble heads and etc. was great i felt like a kid in a candy store! The prices were both affordable & clear. i will definitely go back shoutout to the young man and older gentleman for making it a experience for me and my kids! If your a screwhead or are barely tapping into the scene this place is a MUST VISIT! #ripdjscrew #Screwworld

Yelp
This place is definitely a landmark in souther hip hop. Unfortunately, aside from the cool murals, there really isn't much else to see in the store. Some cd's and a few t-shirts and hats. That's about it. Glad to have been able to check this place off my bucket list. #RIPDJSCREW

Yelp
Honestly all the clothes smell like cigarettes and weed. I tried to wash out the smell but it's still so strong. The staff were super friendly, but no one ever answers the phone. I wanna see if I can get a refund but I don't want to drive all the way out. Hopefully they'll answer the phone before I drive out there and try lol.

Yelp
A real authentic piece of Houston Texas resides in the shop. Houston wrap was put on the map by a hometown DJ who went by the name of Screw. In the rap game this shop is a cornerstone, a true original establishment that helped jumpstart a lot of rap career's. DJ Screw first opened up for business in 1998, he base of the shop was used to sell actual cassette tapes in then eventually CDs as they became popular. The original location of the shop was closed down and recently reopened a few years ago. I visited the shop about a year ago when I was in Houston and was told that I MUST GO HERE. Right off the side of a main road in Houston you'll find Screwed Up Records & Tapes and in a mediocre shop mall development. Inside you'll see old banners from the original store, many original photos & pictures (some drawn by fans) and the murals of DJ Screw within the shop. Local Houston artists can be heard through BOOMING bass speakers inside. Even well known State grown artist such as Scarface & UGK have hung sing anther photos in dedication to the shop. The atmosphere inside feels extremely warm, like you've walked into a homie's house and just Vibin' to the decor. Did I mention the merchandise? Everything from autographed photos of Screw to Chrome spoked-out wheels all the way back to original Screwed and Chopped tapes mixed by DJ Screw. A true iconic establishment in Houston, period. Regardless of that fact it's just a "record shop". Oh yeah, and in the back as an actual recording booth where artists and DJs come to mix, chop, produce and record records. A shop like this makes you fall back in love with Vinyls, ACTUAL cassettes and CDs. I'd come back to H-Town just to go here! S.U.C.

Yelp
If you're a true screw head then this is a must visit... the art work and merch in addition to all the chapters are on display. It's awesome to see how the shop has evolved since the days of Cullen. I love how they have managed to keep the legend alive!

Yelp
The screwed up records and tapes store is the best store in the greater Houston area it had culture beyond anyone outside of Texas or southern Texas quality hoodie fit well and have nice screw tapes as well as being in southside Houston next to haram Clarke where screw is huge and influential and everyone should bang screw with 84s turnin and syrup sippin and rip screw #screwluv

Yelp
Keeping the Screw legacy alive and well after all this time! Big Bubb and Big A were very helpful and shared stories of DJ Screw with us while we shopped. Plenty of great shirts, hundreds of Screw CDs, and even some original grey tapes for sale. Plus new releases from Houston rappers. A must visit on any Hip Hop bucket list!

Yelp
Very upset that this is the second time I've tried to come visit this place and it was closed the times are incorrect on here. Would love to enjoy the place and find some good shit but it ain't ever open. The voicemail to the phone number is pretty entertaining though.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I were really excited to cross this off our list as DJ Screw and this shop represents such an integral part of Houston music history. Since we both collect records and he collects cassettes as well, we were expecting to leave with a couple purchases. When we arrived, however, it turned out the shop was mostly filled with clothes and cheesy looking merchandise unrelated to DJ Screw or local artists. They don't sell records or tapes anymore - only CDs. The guys working seemed fairly friendly, pointing us toward a binder filled with track listings for each CD they have. And boy, do they have a lot! They've got every single mixtape DJ Screw ever made - well over 300 - and it's pretty cool reading through and recognizing names, but there's not much else to do in the shop. Unless you know exactly which one you want to buy, it's fairly underwhelming. You can't listen before you buy and it's hard to tell where to start when there's so much. We left after milling around for a bit as neither of us were really interested in purchasing CDs. While I understand the difficulty of selling records and tapes now (and the history of the name), it seems like a bit of a misnomer to call a shop records and tapes when they have neither. It's nice to be able to see a little slice of Houston history, but even that's a bit contrived since this isn't the original location.

Yelp
Gotta love haters and people who have no conscience and show fake love. At least Screw is RI real peace now. RIP Screw by giving love anyway. The record is changing on one end at least. Sad......:(
