Thanks to Gabby and her staff (Martha, & Jessica) we had a perfect getaway, in a beautiful room with stunning views. Our room was so clean and comfortable. We both love a good pillow& they were perfect ❤️ Our room also had new dining chairs and two sitting chairs for watching tv, or just relaxing with the doors open to our balcony & watching the ocean. Also new was breakfast . The staff did a great job preparing and keeping food fresh and hot. There was a nice variety of foods and the buffet station was kept clean and well maintained. If you have a cookie lover in your family , you’ll love the variety of cookies each afternoon. If you need more, you are welcome to have wine tasting in the evening and enjoy the beautiful private grounds , overlooking the ocean . All rooms have an ocean view and are nicely appointed. The staff and the hotel is a must add to your list of must do’s, see, and experience the relaxed vibe at the Sea and Sand.

My family and I have been coming here for years and have always had a wonderful stay. They are always updating the facility. It is always clean and the staff is amazing and super helpful. It has amazing views and you hear the soft sounds of the ocean and seals through the night. You are I walking distance to everything and it has always been a peaceful stay. This will always be my go to vacation spot.

Definitely will not come again. Gaby was the rudest Definitely judged by our looks. Pretty sad. Got a jacuzzi room suite and the jacuzzi spit out black and green gunk every time you turned the jets on. Tried to tell her and she dismissed me like garbage as I was lying. I sent her videos and she did not care. Called the night before to ask for Kate check out. She barged in the room as j am grabbing the last of my things demanding I pick up all my bags and get them outside as if I was a criminal. I am paying for the Kate check out but being told security is being called. She is horrible and I now am in communications with company that owns the property to resolve something that could have been as simple as thank you for letting me know the tub is broken. Do not stay there. Dream inn next door is cleaner and way nicer staff

Perfect place to celebrate our 20 yr wedding anniversary!!!||It was at the top of our budget, but worth it. It was nice to find something in our budget that would not be considered high end or luxury; but made us feel luxurious. For an older Inn, we appreciate that it has been updated and was very clean. It safe, and comfortable to stay in. We loved our room, and enjoyed our stay. The staff was great. We will be back!

Enjoyed our stay which was quiet and relaxing overlooking the ocean. Within walking distance of much of what Santa Cruz meant to me growing up. The breakfast, cookies and happy hour were a great touch. The grounds with firepits and patios was kept up immaculately.

I have stayed in Santa Cruz many many times, but this was my first stay at Sea & Sand Inn. It is beachfront with access to the beach down a bit. It has clean, modest rooms with a decent sized bathroom. All rooms have an ocean view overlooking the Monterey Bay and Boardwalk. It is super easy walking distance to the whole Boardwalk area. Parking was somewhat easy. I could see it being difficult during the summer. We tried to check in early and were told no. But they’d call if our room was ready early. No call. The staff was ok. Not overly friendly or welcoming. Some things I loved were the view, the rooms, the cookies in the afternoon and the wine and cheese reception in the evening. We sat by the outdoor fire and watched the ocean and beach activities. The bed was comfortable in the room. They were having problems either the WiFi and TV but did notify us of this upon arrival. There is a fireplace in the room that puts off a lot of heat. There is also a safe in the room. No elevators. The value was really really great. I will for sure return.

Been here twice in 2023 but for some reason my reviews didn't appear.||Great location with lots of bonus things such as free breakfast and hot drinks. Loved the cookies and wine hours.||Great to be able to sit in the gardens soaking up the view of the ocean and beach. If you can afford it then plumb for one of the rooms with a balcony, really worth the extra cost.

I love this place. Perfect view. The staff is super friendly. They also offer afternoon refreshment, and early evening wine & cheese. Gaby helped me very much, she made my stay very easy, and smooth, and very pleasant. Super recommend!

Yelp
This was our 3rd or 4th time here. We got the 2nd floor room with private balcony. As always, you can't get a better view. The room is amazing! Great front desk folks and nice complementary breakfast. Our room had a gas wall fireplace, jacuzzi tub, skylight, lots of window view with shutters. I have only 1 complaint. And this is strictly a personal preference. The bed was hard as a rock. We will still be back though. We will just have a cocktail a few hours later ;)

Yelp
Great time , great place to stay , I recommend the Grand luxury suite, our favorite, they upgraded the breakfast , we can't wait to stay here gain, o ya ,great ocean views! The best!

Barbara G.

Yelp
A wonderful place to stay in Santa Cruz! The views from our balcony were amazing, and you can hear the waves all night. So relaxing! They have free parking, free breakfast, cookies in the afternoon, and wine, chess, crackers, and a delicious spinach pastry. Our room also had a 2 person jacuzzi tub, and fireplace. Gabriela and her staff were all so friendly. They keep the inside and out beautiful and spotless. We ended up staying an extra day, and will definitely return.

Yelp
It was beautiful, having a room with a full view of the Santa Cruz Boardwalk. The room was modern and beautiful and very clean and the bed was comfortable. My stay was in April 2021.

Steve M.

Yelp
A cute little motel that is walking distance to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, and easy access to a beach. The staff is super nice as well. I highly recommend this place!

Ashley M.

Yelp
I had the pleasure of staying at this beautiful little place for a few days a few weeks ago. The room was beautiful and the view of the ocean from right outside my door was incredible!! The staff were very kind and attentive. Great breakfast as well. Rosie and Trisha were both so helpful as well as the gentleman that checked me in. I will definitely be staying here again and recommending to my friends and family when they go to Santa Cruz.

Matt G.

Yelp
Nice view but way over priced. No easy way to the beach and no pool. And when we returned from the beach after check out, their one bathroom was under construction and we couldn't even change. Not worth the premium price.

Tamara R.

Yelp
Beautiful and simplistic rooms overlooking the ocean. Best view in Santa Cruz. Daily coffee and tea, breakfast provided, afternoon cookies, wine and cheese hour, gorgeous seating arrangements out back with ocean, wharf, and boardwalk views. Best place to stay while in Santa Cruz. Worth the price every time. Also electric fireplaces in every room to stay cozy on the those cool nights.

Yelp
It's a motel but it's super cute and the location is amazing. Every room has an ocean/bay view. You can hear the ocean (and the sea lions barking--really) all night long. Don't worry, the barking sea lions is off in the distance and it's awesome. The room was good-sized and was clean and comfortable. Lots of amenities. You get a free bag of salt water taffy in your room. They've got a better than average continental breakfast every morning (muffins, really fresh scones, hard boiled eggs, breakfast bars, coffee, etc.). There are good, fresh cookies in the afternoon and wine and cheese at night. And the wine is really good, seriously. The grounds are very nice. There are a number of chairs and tables where you can lounge and enjoy the amazing view of the water and the wharf. Parking can be a little bit of a challenge. They only have so many spots saved for guests. But we always found a spot so it was never a true problem. We had a couple of quirky issues with the room but the staff promptly addressed them. The front desk service was friendly, too. It's a simply 10 minute downhill walk to the wharf/boardwalk and an easy walk back. It's not exactly cheap for a motel but you are right on the water, the location is terrific, and we really enjoyed the amenities. I would happily return.

Yelp
First thing, lower your expectations - this is coastal California and what you pay for is not what you get. We rented (I am using that word deliberately) a small one bedroom with a terrace and hot tub for two nights and I think it was close to $1,200. I lived in California for 60 years (Marin County and SoCal) but was still horrified with the discrepancy between the price and the room. While we loved the hot tub and the view (that is why I am giving it 4 stars), we were shocked with the older furnishings and shabby buildings. It felt like no one was putting any money into the place. When we later walked on the beach (could not go into the water due to high bacteria counts) we could see the cliffside supporting the motel (which is what it really is) was eroding - my guess is that at some point the property will be condemned and the owners are putting as little money as possible into refurbishing and maintenance until that happens (10-20 years?). Breakfast was unremarkable. The terrace was not completely private and unhoused folks were hanging out in the park next door (totally their right but the hedge did not separate the two areas completely and we felt a bit exposed - a privacy screen would have been nice. Bathroom was also older and was not luxurious or well cared for - felt very cheap. We also had issues with ants and moved all of our food into the fridge and our car. Had to shake out bags, etc.... We told the front desk but have no idea if they dealt with the issue when we left. Would I recommend this place? Only if you are totally comfortable blowing this sort of money. I really needed the hot tub to relax after 12 hours of driving so that was wonderful but the room - nope, it was not great. Wish there were better options in the Santa Cruz/Aptos area for a nice place to stay.

Yelp
I've driven past this inn for more than 20 years and this November, we booked a long weekend! It has the best views and will be our new favorite place to stay. Staff were friendly and it was easy to check in. Parking was no problem during our entire weekend stay (I know some Yelp reviews remarked on not having enough spaces - we didn't have that problem). The fireplace was warm and welcoming after a chilly evening walk to dinner and back! And the breakfast and wine hour were delightful treats - particularly when enjoyed at one of the tables and chairs outside with the most perfect beach view. We had a great time!

Heather T.

Yelp
We went to bed and woke up to a massive amount of ANTS. They were everywhere. They wetr in our clothes and shoes, all over the bathroom , and even IN and around the bed. It was awful. They switched rooms for us, but told us the fireplace didn't work... I was trying to be flexible... so sure. We got to the new room, and there was no heat. The fireplace isn't working ... not the same as- there will be no heat in your room... in February. Super sad... I really liked this place.

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic! We have stayed many places for much higher prices and havent had a room like this! We stayed in the Cottage Suite which has the jacuzzi on balcony and it was probably our favorite room weve been in in 11 years of traveling on a budget. No shared walls so less noise concern (plus the crashing waves), privacy, and an overall luxurious feel! No room service, but youre so close to the boardwalk its almost too easy to just walk on down to cocktail hour and grab a bite to eat. We are definitely making this establishment a yearly visit after just one stay.

Yelp
Very cozy and staff are very friendly. Not enough parking space especially for the handicap.

Yelp
This is a hard one to decide because our third night here was definitely five star! Our first two nights would've gotten a three star at the most. What a nightmare! The head of our bed is up against the staircase. You absolutely will not get a minute of sleep if you're in this room. When people finally stop, clunking their luggage up and down the stairs, housekeeping arrives. They are fantastic at their jobs! The rooms are super clean. The grounds are meticulously kept. However, they are so noisy! . The clunking of the broom as they sweep the walkways every morning is loud enough to wake the dead. Maybe they need a shop vac and they can start vacuuming those carpet lined walkways at 10 o'clock in the morning instead of sweeping at eight! I am definitely one who likes to sleep in on holiday. If I had a complaint, though that was legit, that would be the only one. Let us sleep! I upgraded our room for the third night, which I would've done for the second, but there weren't any available. The view was spectacular! The room was grand. I would've stayed another night if it were available. The staff here is friendly, all of them! It's very peaceful when people aren't busy cleaning. That being said, I really appreciate how clean the rooms are. That is one of the most important things to me when I stay at a hotel. The location is fantastic because there are so many places you can walk. We actually ended up at a little Mexican restaurant right down the street that was fantastic and I wish I could remember the name so I could recommend it. It's just down the way though. It's the closest one to the hotel look for it.

Deb I.

Yelp
Great place to stay in Santa Cruz. The grounds are immaculate. The staff is so friendly. We enjoyed the breakfast that was offered, the cookies in the afternoon and the wine and cheese in the evening. I highly recommend it.

Dara Z.

Yelp
Definitely great views. Parking was a challenge and was blocked in two different times. The breakfast was something to be desired. We had expected "fresh scones" but there were basic factory made muffins. The room itself is cute- yet outdated. Also it was quite loud. This wasn't the hotels fault/ but with rooms water facing- there was a constant flow of people outside the room talking and children. Again- not the hotels fault - but definitely couldn't sleep in. Be prepared to "hike" back from the warf and boardwalk. It is an easy walk down, but you do have to walk uphill back. While it was a beautiful view- I would not chose the place to stay at again. Especially for the price tag.

Michelle O.

Yelp
The Sea and Sand Inn's cottage studio (room 302) was beautiful and spacious, with a separate bedroom, large bathroom with skylight, fireplace (electric) and kitchenette (microwave, sink, mini fridge). There is a small sofa and lounge chair which are hide a beds, so room for 3 more to sleep. The jewel is the large patio overlooking the wharf and ocean, with a 4 person table, 3 lounge chairs and hot tub. It's not too loud and you can hear the waves and sea lions lulling you to sleep each night. The view is spectacular with surfers, sailors and beachgoers. It's a family run place and very clean. There was a continental breakfast 7-10am with scones, yogurt, coffee, oj), cookies in the afternoon 3-5pm, and wine and cheese from 5:30-6:30pm. No pool but nice lawn area and ample parking. But for $600/night (with taxes), there were a few shortfalls. The hairdryer was broken, TV in bedroom didn't work, only one roll of TP, spotty internet. Some of these are east fixes with a maid's checklist. It was a 10 minute walk to the boardwalk and wharf and 10 minutes on West Cliff to the lighthouse and Natural Bridges, so close to everything. Though only in the low 60's, the patio was warm after the fog disapated and it's sheltered from the wind. We really enjoyed it!

Elise R.

Yelp
A special thank you to Gabby for a warm welcome and for being a gracious, attentive host. The Sea & Sand Inn was a perfect girls weekend getaway location

Patricia D.

Yelp
We stayed two nights in a Grand Luxury King Spa room, which cost $1100+. For that kind of money, I expect the room to be spotless, especially in COVID times. The mini fridge was disgustingly dirty, with goopy melted food all over the freezer. The sponge for the kitchenette was NOT new, and it was wet when I touched it. I microwaved it and hoped for the best. The ceiling fan did not work and it was covered in thick dust, like it had not been cleaned in months. The toilet paper holder was straight up missing, so we got to keep the toilet paper on the windowsill. The sheets were scratchy and the pillows were old and lumpy. Thankfully the bed itself was comfortable. The room was definitely not a grand luxury experience. I have paid less for a true luxury room at the 5-star Park Hyatt Tokyo, so the cost of this room is ridiculous given the Sea & Sand is a 3-star hotel and the room was dirty and shabby. Furthermore, when I checked out and noted the room's unacceptable dirty condition, the woman working gave me an insincere apology, stating that they "usually keep the rooms very clean." I showed her the photos that I took, and she said all she could do was make a note for the manager to review. Also note that because the door to this kind of room faces W. Cliff Dr., you'll hear street noise clearly, as in loud vehicles revving engines, people screaming, etc. The crashing ocean waves outside the balcony were great, so we made do.

Victor B.

Yelp
The perfect place to spend the night when visiting the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Getting checked in by a friendly informative staff is always a MUST in my book. Our receptionist gave us a quick schedule of the daily amenities such as cookies & coffee or wine & cheese. We were able to make it to both! The Inn itself is old fashioned, but well kept, offering a magnificent view of the beach. I recommend you upgrade to the in-room spa, to soak in after a day of walking the hills of SC, you wont regret it, you DESERVE it! Walking to the beach or boardwalk is only 5 minutes away without the need to worry about crossing traffic. I never had to worry about PARKING because, I walked everywhere from the Inn once I had parked my car. Checking out was a breeze and aside from the usual travel taxes, there were no "hidden fees."

Greg S.

Yelp
Great location. Comfortable bed, pillows. No noisy heater. I have nothing more to say, but yelp requires more characters.

Joe K.

Yelp
We drove down Bay Street and straight into this dingy little four space parking lot next to an office that looked like something straight out of a motel 6. It appeared to us to be a well worn roadside motel as we went to check in. The only thing interesting about it was just how classic the whole roadside motel appearance was right down to its heavy duty security gates. We were kind of like, "ok, I guess we will be calling this place home for a couple of days." Then we entered the security gates and it was like Alice stepping through the looking glass. The world was instantly transformed into a fairy tale. What an amazing view! Ocean, beaches, wharfs, boardwalks, waves hitting the rocks, people learning to surf, birds playing in the sea foam, waves exploding on large jagged rocks, beautiful cloud formations on the horizon, all of that in a single glance and it only got better. We were mesmerized! Ok, time to stop staring at the view and find our room. We can always come back out and check out the view later. The room was very spacious with a Jacuzzi, a walk in shower, fireplace and most amazing of all is that the view was just as good from our room. We even had a table in front of the window to sit and have afternoon drinks and stare at the view. I don't think it gets any better than this. Best of all, the room felt like a wonderfully cozy seaside inn. The staff was as accommodating as the room and the view. First class room, first class view and first class hotel staff what more could I ever ask for? Outside of the inn, we had a long ocean front promenade in one direction that stretches for around three miles of gorgeous views to Natural Bridges State Beach in one direction and the wharf and boardwalk in the other so you can't beat the location either. Life is definitely good!

Ida H.

Yelp
I can't say enough about how grateful Joe K and I were, when we were gifted a 3 nights, 2 day stay here by a close friend! This quaint old style Inn by the sea was a big and unexpected surprise! The exterior of this hotel was so different than what our room entailed! When we first arrived, finding parking was not an easy endeavor, especially since the building is so close to a busy street, and their lot is quite limited. We had to deal with our large pick-up truck, bikes, and a lot of luggage! The outside of the Inn was not much of a show stopper. It looked like an old 60's motel, that many tourists would probably pass by with out much thought. Even the reception area was nothing fancy, but it was clean and offered some comfort during the check in process. It even smelled of freshly baked cookies! (Apparently they have a cookie hour for guests). The young man at the front desk was very welcoming and helpful from beginning, to the end of our stay, (since we had a few minor issues that needed to be fixed). As we journeyed up to our first floor room, we were greeted by a beautiful ocean view complete with crashing waves! This was very exciting and a new experience for me! We actually got a hotel room with a gorgeous view right out of our front door & window! The rooms share a common balcony/walk way, so occasionally, other neighbor guests will stroll by. But I was additionally impressed to see our room! It was very spacious with a large king sized bed, gas fireplace, table for two right at the front window, a Jacuzzi tub in the living area, huge bathroom with extra large walk-in shower, nice vanity & sink with drawers to store our necessities and of course, a nice clean toilet. The only odd thing there, was that we only got one roll of toilet paper and there was no room service during our stay. We used it wisely down to the last few squares! But they did provide plenty of extra towels. There is a mini-fridge and microwave inside a large bureau chest of drawers, large flat screen TV with remote that has a sleep timer, free continental breakfast every morning, free wine and cheese in the evenings, and of course, free wifi. There is a safe located in the rather small closet, but it looked like you have to request a key to use it. I was also able to find some additional guest parking on the other side of the hotel where we were able to claim for ourselves. A key entry gate was very conveniently placed for us to come and go for walks or biking, and of course, loading and unloading our stuff. The Inn itself is the perfect location near the ocean with walking & bike trails, short treks to shopping, restaurants and the wharf. Even the Santa Cruz Boardwalk is close at hand. This was one of the better and relaxing stays I have enjoyed in a long time! We hope to return again for another vacation, but for a longer period of time! FYI: The rates are high here, but well worth it!

M D.

Yelp
I cannot say enough about how wonderful this place is. Clean rooms, and so comfy. Nice in room fireplace and outdoor fire table to enjoy the breathtaking view. Staff is super nice and friendly. By far the best place I've stayed in Santa Cruz, walking distance to everything.

Leah C.

Yelp
I've been meaning to write a review for a while about this hotel so I am finally doing it! My parents gifted my husband and I a stay in the Deluxe Luxury Spa room for a late Honeymoon gift and it was AMAZING. The views of the ocean were so incredible and it was such a great experience to be able to breathe in delicious sea air while being in the comfort of a beautiful room and deck. This room had a fireplace which was fantastic at night when the fog rolled in. But the best part of all was the tub. Hands down. We probably spent a cumulative 6 hours in the tub over the span of a one night stay. My husband and I are tall people (6'3 and 5'10) and we both fit in PERFECTLY. We brought our own mood lighting which made it extra fun. There is also a small kitchenette which is great for people who want to bring their own food and snacks. The hotel is also walking distance to the Boardwalk, the Wharf, and many shops and restaurants. It was very clean and I hope after COVID has wound down we can return immediately!!

Shari D.

Yelp
Bedding was not ready for cottages. Night employee was a bit unaware on how to handle problem. Party of 11 was detained in preparing for bed. $4200 plan had a bad start. Reservation was made one year ago. 10 days prior to arrival we confirmed our reservation and number of people attending to celebrate 50 year wedding anniversary. We were told the manager would call us the next day. No call. The king room for two had 2 chairs that should be replaced. Chairs were lightly stained, legs were wobbly and underlining was loose and hanging down.

Ed R.

Yelp
As much as I like staying in this small and well-prepared motel-style place with its spectacular view of the ocean and boardwalk. I have to give a fair warning to anyone of needs more than 4 Mbps of internet conductivity; don't stay here. I've stayed here and struggled too many times not to say something finally. The folks are polite, the place is well prepared, and the breakfast is acceptable, but it's run by a property management company that doesn't need to deal with this genuine problem--even good old Netflix cycles round and round with this ridiculous backwoods conductivity.

Debbie L.

Yelp
We greatly enjoyed our two night escape from SV busy-ness. The accessible king room was spacious, the bed was comfortable and the view was magnificent. Coffee and tea was always available. They offered yummy cookies mid-afternoon followed by a happy hour with quality wine and cheese. Breakfast was bagels, hard boiled eggs, tangerines/bananas, homemade scones and muffins. The walk towards the lighthouse and state park is one of our favorites and is very accessible (this trip was 3 months post broken hip and shoulder for me). The walk downhill to the boardwalk and wharf was short. We enjoyed dinner on the wharf one night and Marinis ice cream the next day. We will be back!!

Shashi B.

Yelp
Pros: amazing views of the ocean, free breakfast Cons: outdated rooms, parking is limited, and the breakfast is pretty basic. Front desk staff not very welcoming.

Anna M.

Yelp
Very nice place. Close to all the great spots. The view is beautiful!!! The ocean sounds, are what u want and need!!! So clean and very well kept up. We enjoyed the breakfast of bagels, muffins and scones, hard boiled eggs, oatmeal, fruit and juice coffee and tea. Nice afternoon treats also. Homemade cookies in the afternoon with coffee or tea, then at 5pm cheese, crackers and wine. If there was a walkway straight 2 the beach, I'd given it 5 stars. But the walk is not bad at all, I'd say less then 5 min. Can't wait 2 go back

Michelle M.

Yelp
Stayed here for our wedding anniversary. We loved this place, and can't stop thinking about it. We booked another night for my husband's birthday (insert squeal.....eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee). What makes this place so wonderful is the location and little extras the staff bring to your stay. Let's start with the location, it's right on the cliffside, overlook the ocean. Each morning I went outside and watched the surfers. Also it's walking distance to the pier and boardwalk rides. The extras; they offer scones for breakfast, cookie hour, and wine & cheese hour. Our room was quaint. But still served it's purpose. They installed a fireplace on the wall, didn't expect that. Because we were always on the go, we were there at night time and up again exploring the next day. We can't wait to go back. Disclaimer. Prices are high, but it's actually around the same price or cheaper than the hotel next door. And you get all those perks. You really can't go wrong.

Janice B.

Yelp
Wonderful views, warm and friendly staff, nibbles and sips in the PM lead to conversation and bonding. Easy parking as well !

Marz R.

Yelp
Let's see...or not. We gave this place a second chance. Stayed on the first floor. They have a thin black mat on the outside hall to absorb the water dripping from drip holes from the begonia plants above. It is constantly wet, who wants to walk in a room with wet shoes..every time? Just no. There is not much of a view from the rooms and the patio area because of the fence and hedges. The grounds are well kept. Rooms are small and dated. The bathroom in our room was grungy, broken handle not fixed from last time we stayed in same room!!! Bathroom window opens directly into the public sidewalk, yuck. Parking is parallel along that public walkway. You hear a lot of traffic noise and talking. Would rather stay at the Dream Inn with an actual view, pool access and resturant next door.

Luis S.

Yelp
**** Review 123 **** So this is the best place to stay in Santa Cruz, period! Hidden gem, unless you've stayed here you would just drive past it. The outside of the building looks like a generic hotel, but once you go inside it's a completely different world. Clean, beautiful, stunning views, and best of all super reasonably priced! Located near everything, a short walk to Boardwalk, restaurants, the beach, a short drive to downtown and shopping areas. If you're looking for an amazing place to create beautiful memories, then this is your place!

Sara M.

Yelp
DONT STAY HERE. you're better off staying at the dream in which is next door. cheaper and nicer. staff is unhelpful and rude. your gas fireplace doesn't work. no heater. bugs in bathroom. no welcome packet on room or do not disturb sign so staff wakes you up early. the rooms look nothing like the picture. seriously don't stay here. the electrical is also not up to date, our lights flickered on and off and so did the tv. and the electrical box had cords hanging out of it so if you have children maybe double check it's safe for them to be crawling around.

Mindy S.

Yelp
IT HAPPENED AGAIN!!! Today was the third time in a month that I received an email from the Sea & Sand Inn with a "modification" to the upcoming reservation I made in June. None of the modifications were made with prior notice. The first one came 6/29 with a $1.60 increase in the room total. I didn't think that was a big deal because I figured it was due to a tax increase. The second, on 7/3 was for a $20 per night resort fee they were going to implement for any stays after July 1st. After calling the inn and posting a review, I was told I would have the extra $40 total removed from my owing balance. I greatly appreciated this reversal and thought everything was ok. However, today I was surprised with a $74.88 increase for my 2 night stay. I did read a post from a few days ago that mentioned they were: "charged and additional 78.81 after checking in. They said it was an error on their site and taxes were not applied." Having a direct call from the staff and/or Manager to address this issue would have been the appropriate courtesy, not some random email with NO explanation. It is not the guest who should have to pay for a mistake on the inn's end. This is horrible customer service. This is to be our second "special occasion" stay but I am seriously considering cancelling and booking somewhere else. I'm curious to see if this happens to anyone else? You could do better Sea & Sand Inn!

Yelp
I am furious over my reservation for October 2022. We are coming for a wedding, the entire party is staying here. We booked in advance and we keep getting modifications made. My reservation went from 738 to 777. I called and the manager can't do anything about it. Apparently some resort fee was added AFTER BOOKING because of some new tax. IMO as a business you add that to any FUTURE reservations. You don't add that to reservation that people have already booked AND agreed to a certain price. $40 isn't the end of the world but it's the way it was handled. I will be canceling my second night and only staying the one news night because I am so furious. Simply bad business practices.

Yelp
The hotel staff was really nice, although I told them three times I was there for a birthday and didn't even care at all. The room was outdated, scuff marks all over the walls, furniture outdated and unbelievably small. This place is all about location location location.. Pros: You're on top of the beach Nice view Nice location/safe Staff is wonderful Cons: Too small Outdated marks on the walls Old furniture Don't care what your reason for travel is If you love the sea/beach this place will be heaven. I loved waking up to the beach and falling asleep to the sound of the ocean.

Yelp
Bed bugs alert!! Don't stay here unless you want to be bitten by bed bugs or accidentally bringing bed bugs home!!!!! On the first night, we found a bug crawling on the bed sheet and pinched it and the blood came out. I discovered another one after looking closely where the mattress and the bed meets. After bringing the bed hug to the front desk, the guy provided another room and we had to move in the middle of the night with a two year old. When we checked out, we found out that the room had bed bug problems before and they still offered it to customers. Also they only provided us 10% discount without even following up even though they promised so. No wonder they're not on booking.com and relatively cheap. Never coming back again!

Yelp
Loved our stay here. The cottage suite with spa is a must stay. Great views and vibes...

Yelp
Truly a nightmare. I was so excited about this trip and had planned it for weeks. The first night the gas fireplace wouldn't turn all the way off (in May, not exactly cold so I'm not sure why the fireplace is the de facto setting?). Second night, the people above us were so loud, blasting music and screaming until 3:30am, and we could hear every word. Maybe just try to stay on the second floor to avoid this if you do stay here but I would recommend to stay anywhere else. Bathroom newly updated and clean, rooms themselves are a bit outdated but fine, somewhat scratchy sheets. Location is perfect and beach is great but the hotel itself is the worst.

Yelp
I agree with the recent posts regarding increases in charges - two notifications of increases. I'm not as bothered about the tax increase ($.80 for my one night stay). I'm more bothered by the $20 a day "amenity" increase. I reserved weeks ago for an overnight stay on July 10. I was told by the front desk that I could keep the reservation or cancel. Ie. They can't make changes to / remove the charges. I have less than a week to find a comparable place with availability. I think these "surprise" charges by Sea & Sand Inn's owners (vs. management) is a bad business practice. I'm giving "three stars" (generous; giving the establishment the "benefit of the doubt") for the service I've received before arriving at the inn. My review might change after July 10. I'm still considering my options.

Yelp
As I have stated before, I am a hotel freak. I LOVE staying at hotels! This place is definitely the best place in Santa Cruz so far!! The view from the room is incredible & the Jacuzzi tub was a huge bonus! I stayed in room 207 which is a Luxury King Spa room. It was my 60th birthday & I wanted to spoil myself. I reserved the room for 3 night, but added a forth because I didn't want to leave. Parking was free & easy which is huge for me because I hate dealing with difficult and/or expensive parking. Check in was a breeze & the young girl behind the desk was very sweet and accommodating. I had called ahead & asked for an early check in & was lucky enough to get in around 1:30. The one thing that was a real problem for me was the lack of an elevator. Pulling my super heavy suitcase up a flight of stairs by myself was quite the struggle for this old gal & I'm glad no one saw me do it...lol I hear they are considering getting an elevator & I think that would be a great addition because I sprained my wrist bringing my suitcase back down the stairs. I'm a bit old to be schlepping a heavy suitcase up & down stairs. I will say though, the super sweet girl behind the desk offered to do it when I asked if they had someone that could help, but I didn't want her to hurt herself. It was pretty heavy...lol When I got to my room & opened the door, I gasped! The view, the fireplace, the GIANT tub, the kitchenette.....it was amazing!! I immediately opened the big french doors to the balcony & looked out at the ocean. It happened to be pouring rain that day, but it was still so beautiful. The rooms were very well insulated. I never once heard my neighbors unless we were all outside on our balconies. They have a cookies & lemonade reception in the afternoon & a wine & cheese happy hour in the evening. I would have gone, but I was already in my jammies & had my own wine & cheese & cookies! I did get a cookie when I went down to the office later & it was delicious!! The little kitchenette was perfect for what I needed. The fridge kept my wine & food cold & the microwave was handy heating up leftovers the next day since I barely ever wanted to leave the room. There was a Keurig in the room, so coffee was always available. There was also a toaster, plates & utensils. Very convenient! The second night, I was ready to try the spa tub. I put on some music, turned the lights down & climbed in. Then, to my extreme delight, I pushed a button that turned the spa into a disco!!! The changing colored lights dancing in the bubbles was so fun. (I am easily amused) The jets were great & it is definitely large enough for 2 large people. It was so relaxing & awesome! Then to come out to the fireplace & the lights of the wharf dancing on the water I honestly felt like I had died & gone to heaven!!! The bathrooms need a couple of hooks for robes & towels, though. Not sure why there weren't any. The bed was comfortable and I slept like a rock. The free continental breakfast was pretty good. Usual fare. Bagels, scones, muffins, fruit, yogurt......that kind of stuff. I brought back a little OJ to my room to make a mimosa. It was perfect on the balcony with my book & that view. The rain had stopped & the sun was shining bright. The room I was in didn't have an information book about the Inn and there was no exit info on the back of the door, so I found that kind of odd, but I knew where to go in the case of an emergency & felt VERY safe there. Housekeeping was excellent & respectful of my privacy. They kept everything stocked well since I was there for 4 nights. The Papaya toiletries were a bit strong smelling for me, but my friend that stopped by for a night LOVED them. I could go on & on even more, but I think you get the idea. I LOVE this place! Breakfast & dinner on the wharf were always good & on my actual birthday my kids took me to Kianti's downtown for dinner (and a show!) and it was delicious. (and fun!) I highly recommend running away for your birthday. Even if it's only 15 miles away! I've stayed in pretty much all the ocean-side hotels in Santa Cruz & this one is #1 in my book so far!!! I will definitely stay again!!

Yelp
We stayed here over the weekend to celebrate hubby's birthday, it's not our first visit. Only 24 rooms and they all have an incredible ocean view. Cozy bed and leaving the window partially opened overnight allowed us to hear the surf crashing on the shore overnight. The staff is amazing, with a 24/7 service window with local sourced coffee, and water. They serve scones and yogurt for breakfast at the same service window, sell bottles of local wine for $7.00 a bottle, and bake fresh cooked everyday at 3:00pm. Rooms all have a fireplace , even though some are. Placed in unusual locations within the room. The offer three or four different types of rooms, one with a jacuzzi and private deck! Walking distance to great wharf restaurants and beach street shops. Lots of interesting things to look at, surfers, beach goers and wildlife. If they removed the grass and added additional outdoor seating and propane heaters the place would honestly be perfect! We will certainly be back!

Yelp
As locals we have walked passed, driven passed but have never stayed... booked the cottage suite for our 30th anniversary and loved it!! sat in the hot tub in the drizzle and just soaked up what our town has to offer..tranquil beauty! office team was pleasant, checking in there could have been a bit more attention to others on a phone call, but I get it hospitality is a challenge. upon checking out I asked if she had stayed....come on Seaside Company those frontline need to be pampered it's a great experience!! will return and already booked the cottage suite for 2022

Yelp
Already so highly rated that I don't know whether to pile on or try to hold back. There's no keeping this place secret, so adding more stars won't make it any easier to get a room in the future. And they're already clearly killing it, so adding more stars probably won't get them any more business. But, man, what a great spot. Great value and hits all the basics to a T. Can't wait to come back. This was a total score. We needed a room and there was an Ironman in town, along with the usual end-of-summer getaway traffic. Somehow they lost a booking moments before I tried to reserve a room through their website, and I squeaked in. Whew. There's juuuust enough parking, and you go through secured gates to get to the rooms. There's not much road noise, but there's some, and lots of people take their morning walks and jogs along Cliff Drive. Very friendly, almost neighborhoody feel, despite being so close to businesses and the beach boardwalk. They're not lying about every room having an ocean view. You get a big window in every room, and you can hear the waves crashing all night. So nice. The building is probably from the 50s or 60s, but well maintained and updated. You get a comfortable bed, soft sheets, decent-sized bathroom, nice clean large shower. Most rooms have fireplaces, a few have hot tubs. All can go out to the lawn and small patio with chairs overlooking the water. The staff are super cheerful and super nice. The room ended up being almost as affordable as anything in town that seemed decent at all, and it was actually really nice. If you always want a cushy bathrobe and crazy marble tile and stuff, this won't suit your idea of a "fancy" hotel, but it does mine--amazing location, all services covered, no waste. Great people running it. Can't wait to come back.

Yelp
We decided to stay here for our anniversary last night and it did not disappoint! This place is amazing and we will definitely be coming back. The views are breathtaking and the room was even better. The room and property were very clean and everyone had masks on. The hotel staff was exceptional too. We can't wait to come back!

Yelp
My husband and I spent our wedding weekend in the cottage studio, and we were in heaven. The cottage had everything we needed - comfortable bed/pillows and couches, a lovely fireplace, spacious area, kitchenette, and of course the private patio and 4-person hot tub. We spent the majority of our time enjoying the ocean views from the hot tub with our coffee and our champagne. It was a lovely and quiet escape for the weekend and we can't wait to come back for another stay.
