We spent 10 days here with our mini dachshund. It was January and a 'polar vortex' came through for the last few days. We have stayed in Sea Castles two years in a row prior. This was our first time at the Sea Cottages of Amelia.
We stayed in #9 at the end of the 'boardwalk' and it is a 'one bedroom'. The 'studios' share a wall with another studio unit FYI. I would recommend a one-bedroom, it is nice to be separate from another unit if your dog barks (although the walls are thin and units are fairly close together).
The staff (front office lady and maintenance man) are so incredibly friendly and nice. When the vortex came through, we could not figure out how to turn on the heat. We texted the number given that morning and got no response, but they are in the office by 10 am, so they came down and showed us and were very helpful. Be warned at least at this time of year they staff are only there 10-3ish.
The location is great for getting to the beach on foot. You can even drive onto the beach with your car off Sadler, if walking is a problem. There are available beach wagons by the front office for hauling stuff, both to the beach and back and forth to your car, which eased the unloading and loading at check in and check out. We were there at a very unpopulated time though, I imagine these can get snapped up during busy times of the year.
One difficulty we found was the fact that the 'boardwalk' to and from all the cottages is elevated and your dog cannot get to 'land' to pee or poop until you go all the way to the entrance. Our dog is young and spry, but for an older dog or one who struggles, you might want one as close to the front as possible.
There are poop bags available, some astroturf to go on and some of the landscaping around the front office is available for the late-night pottying, but you do have to leash up and walk to it.
The cottage itself was quiet (we were at the end) and adequately stocked for our use. There is NO oven, just a cook plate and microwave. There is a small fridge and NO laundry and NO dishwasher. They did provide dish soap (nice set up) and toiletries in the bathroom. There were paper towels and garbage bags were available at the office. The bed was ok, but the plastic cover creaked like a circus tent. I would recommend you bring your own mattress pad to make it less 'crunchy/creaky'. They did provide a broom and dustpan, which was pretty dirty. If I had it to do over again, I'd have brought a swiffer and cloths of my own. I also would have brought a bucket to fill outside the door to dip sandy feet in. I did bring a drying rack to hang wet things.
Some things were kinda dirty: the shades on the windows and the microwave needed a good cleaning. The rest of the cottage was adequately clean; it IS a beach place and pet friendly, so we know these usually mean things are a bit worn. The couch was fine, we kept it covered with sheets as our dog was there.
The wifi is weak even with the password protected one. We had to set up a hotspot. We thought there should be a couple of lamps in the living room, as there was only lights over the sink (kitchen and bath) and a light on the ceiling fan.
Overall our stay was good. We did do the 24 hour laundromat mid-visit and it worked well. The staff is lovely and we enjoyed the beach--even saw an Atlantic Right Whale off the beach one day!!
