One of the nicest and certainly the friendliest hotel we have ever stayed in and like Greece used to be 25 years ago before it became so busy and commercialised |The hotel is small, basic and is a traditional family run taverna in the greatest location in town and the most wonderful owners who will go out of their way to make your holiday special and even teach you Greek with new phrases every day !|The hotel is spotlessly clean ( cleaned every day with linen changes every few days ) with sea view balconies ( quite small and no privacy ) and the beds are very comfortable although we found the pillows quite firm. The shower wasn’t very strong but always plenty of hot water. |Breakfast is pretty basic with no choices, tea and coffee, orange juice ( not freshly squeezed) two rolls each, jam and butter and one different dish each day, small omelette, boiled egg, spinach pie, rice pudding, yoghurt and honey once and I wish that they would offer the traditional Greek yoghurt and honey for when you don’t want the dish of the day like spinach pie. Breakfast is served al fresco sitting by the harbour with idyllic views watching the fisherman come and go |We ate in the restaurant on three occasions and the food was good with all the traditional Greek dishes you would expect including fresh fish and everything reasonably priced with average main courses about 12-15 euros and a litre of red or white wine for 13 euros ( no rose which is a shame ) All the harbour tavernas are great but in our opinion the best were Grand Bleu and the Octopus for better quality food. The Bazaar bar at the end of the harbour does the best frozen daiquiri my wife has ever had and Elenor and Neil are two of the nicest friendliest bar owners you will ever meet.|Molivos is absolutely beautiful with wonderful shady lanes with quaint shops, restaurants, cafes and bars to satisfy any taste and always that famous Greek friendliness that we thought had disappeared in our recent visits to some islands.|There is a daily land train that runs from 11am in Molivos to about 5.30pm which runs between Anaxos to Petra and Molivos harbour which is 10 euros for an all day ticket and you go hop on hop off at different locations and means you can spend a few hours at Petra or Anaxos beaches which are both superior to Molivos beach, or travel up to the castle almost all the way. We did a round trip on our first day which allows you to get your bearings and see how beautiful the local area is.|If you can, hire a car for a few days. The roads are all in excellent condition and remarkably quiet and allows you to see most of this fantastic island in a few days. Skala Erossos beach is the best on the island and definitely worth a visit, the road over the mountains via Marmadados to Mytilene is staggeringly beautiful and there are so many other quiet and lovely places to visit and stop but disappointingly no old ruins or places of interesting archeology that we could find.|We had one of our best ever holidays in the Greek islands for many years ( we have visited a different Greek island at least once every year for the past 40 years) So thank you to the people of the beautiful island of Lesvos and particularly Molivos but especially thank you to Dimitris and Stella the owners of one of the nicest hotels in all of Greece. Dimitris you will forever be in my memories!
