Yelp
3.5 stars rounded up, for what it is. Sea Life Aquarium at the Mall of America is the largest aquarium in Minnesota, and the only underwater ocean tunnel in the state, with the only sawfish in MN as well!
Recommended by a coworker who had been before, I got one daily adult admission ticket for the 6:15PM entrance timeslot for $26.99. I noticed later walking around the mall that there were physical coupons that had discounted prices, QR codes to scan, to purchase at a kiosk/tablet mounted on the wall, or online. On top of general admission, you could upgrade/add more things such as a guided 45-minute Behind the Scenes Tour, Virtual Reality Experience, and/or Digital Downloads.
Exhibits include Brave the Rainforest, Sturgeon Lake, Wild Amazon, Shark Cove, Rainbow Reef, Coral Caves, Seahorse Kingdom, Jellyfish Discovery, Beluga Bay, Rockpool, Ray Lagoon, and an area for souvenir photos, and a gift shop. Behind the Scenes and Virtual Reality areas are restricted to those who purchased those experiences.
I admit that it is probably geared toward kids/youth/teens more, and I did not spend as much time reading every info card/fun fact at each exhibit area. There were definitely families with kids in strollers, toddlers, and bigger kids for me to navigate around. I was mainly there for the sharks, stingrays, sea turtles, and moon jellies. Angelfish, seahorses, clownfish (Nemo), blue tang (Dory), lionfish, anemones, corals, starfish, and urchins were fun to see. Respect for the other exotic critters represented like the caiman (crocodile), piranhas, cockroaches, tarantula, etc.
My favorite parts were the Underwater Tunnel and the color-changing Jellyfish Mirror Maze. I'm no stranger to such tunnels (Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, Audobon Aquarium in New Orleans, Steinhart Aquarium at California Academy of Sciences, Oregon Coast Aquarium) but considering this Sea Life location is inside a mall (kind of like SeaQuest) this was pretty impressive! Props to you, Minnesota...but if you're reading this and get a chance to come out to California, Monterey Bay Aquarium is a must-see once in your life.
All in all, I spent less than 30 minutes total going through the attractions (blame my walking speed or attention span). The greenscreen souvenir photos turned out cute, and they also had a traditional photobooth near the exit as well which gave you 3 photo paper strips for 4 poses and your choice of frame (plain white background). At the gift shop, I did purchase a ceramic boho black octopus art-design mug (Karma) too, though I don't recall seeing an actual octopus IRL.
