We had a mixed experience at The Retreat Campsite. Great location, but poor facilities.
The Retreat Campsite is located in a very convenient location , within a walking distance to caffeine fixes and local restaurants, which is a huge plus. However, beyond location, the experience was a real mixed bag.
The site layout is chaotic: some campsites are beautifully secluded and private, while others are practically on the road and totally exposed. There’s no consistency, and it feels like the campground just grew randomly rather than being planned.
The bathrooms are a major letdown. There are constant lineups, and the design is incredibly frustrating. No hooks for towels, no shelves for toiletries, and absolutely nowhere to place your vanity bag. Worse still, if you're taller than 5'3", prepare to bang your head every time you enter. The building looks like it used to be a goat barn (too low even for horses).
It would be fantastic if the new owners seriously considered demolishing this Frankenstein of a bathroom and included a properly designed washroom facility in their 5-year development plan.
During our stay, the men’s bathroom was closed for renovations, but there was zero communication about where guests were supposed to go instead. No signs, no temporary outhouse, nothing. Just poor communication all around.
Another issue: although public cannabis consumption is illegal in Oregon, this campground does nothing to discourage it ? (no signage, no enforcement, nothing). It really detracts from the family-friendly atmosphere they seem to be going for.
Overall, this campground has big potential due to its prime location and natural surroundings. But as it stands, it’s a dog’s breakfast....a patchwork of awkward planning and ignored guest comfort. A little more care and investment could really turn it around.
