Loved our stay here! The owners were so sweet and the views beautiful! The location was great and we walked to Flows bar. The rooms were got the job done and flowers made the motel stunning. Would definitely stay again!

We've been coming to Rhode Island for years and never stayed here but always wanted to. This year we tried it for a couple days and glad we did. This place exceeded what I expected from the other reviews. The owners are super friendly and take pride and care of their place and it's guests. It shows in how clean and organized they keep the place from new appliances to beautiful flowers and landscape and how they acknowledge their visitors. Beautiful lake view,close to beach ,cliff walk, restaurants...all within walking distance. Very cozy and spacious room with a sofa and small table to eat at. Small balcony with chairs and table overlooking the lake. Just loved this place and can't wait to come back!!!

This was our first time staying at Sea Whale Motel. It was perfect - clean rooms with charm, great air conditioning, comfortable bed, microwave and coffee maker with small table indoors and on the balcony. Friendly owners on site, beautiful view of the ocean from the balcony and sliding glass door in room. We have vacationed in Newport/Middletown area for years. We have never seen such beautiful views of the sun setting over the water from our room. We plan on returning next year and staying at Sea Whale.

Great little place to stay! Owners were very kind and upgraded our room to a better view at no charge. Would definitely stay again!

My wife and I just got back from a two-day stay here and we absolutely loved it. The owners Jeff and Teri are so welcoming and friendly, they go above and beyond. Our room was extremely clean, comfortable, and affordable. There was a nice mini balcony/sitting area attached to the room and a great sitting area in the back of the motel looking over a beautiful pond. The location is also prime - walking distance to the beach and several great restaurants. I highly recommend booking a stay here!

Myself, my daughter And my granddaughter, had the pleasure of spending a few days. Just this past week. The owners live on the property and they are very very nice. Outstanding small motel on the water! Charming and old-school, its been proudly family-owned for 30+ years. Simple furnishings with lots of little touches that show the love. Owners Jeff and Terry are super friendly and happy to give me the scoop on nearby Cliff Walk and other Newport attractions. And by happy chance there's also a great little Cafe across the street. Off-season Rate was very reasonable. Hard to beat this one!

Stayed here for 2 nights exploring Newport, RI. Had no idea how convenient their location was. The couple that owns the property is very attentive and friendly. First night we bought dinner and just stayed behind the building by the shore while enjoying sunset. They have nice Adirondack chairs and tables with benches to chill. If you don’t mind walking, it’s a nice hike to Cliff walk and downtown.

What a terrific place! Ideally situated, really friendly and accommodating hosts and staff. We walked to the beach, into Newport and grabbed an Uber back to our room for like $12 later that night. There are great places to sit outside each room, plus Adirondack chairs and picnic tables on the grass out back. My gal pal and I had a wonderful time enjoying the area while staying at the Sea Whale Motel. The only negative feedback I'd offer was that the pillowcase fabric might've been softer. But I forgot my pillow from home and that's on me. Otherwise, 10/10 can recommend.

The Sea Whale Motel was truly a home away from home for my daughters and I. Jeff and Teri really care about their guests and go the extra mile. The evening we arrived, we started having car trouble. The next day, which was a Sunday, I bumped into Jeff and explained the situation. He offered to contact his mechanic first thing the next day when they opened and get me an appointment. He did, and he offered to jump start my car and follow me there to ensure I was safe. Meanwhile, Teri reserved us a room for an extra night in case we needed to stay longer to accommodate the repair. Within a couple of hours, Jeff called and told me that his mechanic could fix the problem, a sensor, for a very affordable price. I agreed, and once it was done, Jeff drove me to the mechanic to pick up my car! We left the next day, and the following day Jeff even called us to make sure we got home safely. If this level of caring and customer service is not enough, we considered ourselves very lucky to be staying at the Sea Whale Motel because it was in walking distance to the beach and many restaurants. We had plenty to do even without a car! We are already making plans to stay at the Sea Whale again. It's a nice little place with a beautiful view and wonderful people. Thank you, Jeff and Teri!

We had such a great experience at this place... I can't say enough! From the time we arrived which was earlier than standard check in time, one of the owners Terri accommodated us and had our room ready. Our room was very clean! Included was a microwave and mini fridge as well. The grounds are very well kept with plenty of outdoor seating and lovely hanging flowers. The other owner Jeff spoke with us nearly every morning asking how are stay is going. Truly nice people:) This place is also very convenient location within walking distance to many restaurants, stores and the beach. You could even walk to the cliff walks from there. I look forward to visiting again and will definitely be staying here.

This little Seaside motel is adorable . It's cute clean and in a good location. they have baskets of flowers all around and even bunnies in the yard facing Easton's pond. get an upstairs room for wonderful views. Not corporately run, but a mom and pop business and they truly care about it. The drinking water is filtered and delicious. There is a fridge/freezer and microwave. Coffee maker in every room. Feels like home.!

Great location near the beach and near restaurants. The owners are fantastic and made my stay enjoyable.

We stayed here upon the recommendation of a local restaurant owner. This place has a lot of vintage charm. The hotel was built in 1955. We had a room on the first floor with a nice water view. There were lots of pretty flowers and hanging baskets everywhere. There were also picnic tables and nice lawn chairs for enjoying the view. The room was clean and tidy. The bathroom was a little small compared to most modern day hotels. The beds were comfortable and the place was quiet. This place is owned and operated by a delightful husband and wife team. They were as friendly and pleasant as possible. The room also had 2 snack bars and a refrigerator and a coffee maker. I did miss having a small notepad and a place to charge my electronics like is common in chain hotels. However, that is the only thing this place was lacking and it made up for it in so many other ways. I would definitely recommend this place if you want a place with character and comfort.

Friendly Staff and Perfect location! A short walk to the beach and restaurants. Decided to stay here during Memorial day weekend while visiting Newport with friends. Day drinking in Newport usually turns into night drinking so it is wise to just spend the night and avoid driving at all costs. Not to mention there is parking at the motel at no additional cost, that alone saves you about $20 in dumb beach parking. This cute motel is just down the road from Easton's beach. Nothing fancy but is clean, has a nice view, and the staff is super nice. That's all you really need unless your plan is to come to Newport, camp out in your room and be lame! Who does that when there is so much to be seen around here!? I would definitely stay here again.

Great little motel. Views of the lake and very close to the beach and restaurants. Exceptionally clean and good value. The husband and wife team who run it are very nice and helpful. The husband is hilarious and a fount of local knowledge! Will definitely be back.

We spent a few days at the Sea Whale Motel last weekend. The two things it is not are modern or expensive. What it is a very clean well managed motel. The second floor rooms all have a deck that is great for morning coffee or watching the sunset in the evening. The room have microwaves, a good size refrigerator, coffee and tea, free snacks, flat screen tv and a modern bathroom. The nice friendly owners give the guest their 24 hour cell phone number. It is a 6-7 minute walk to the beach and there are 5-6 restaurants within a 5 minute walk. There are flowers everywhere. We have stayed at a three story room on the beach in ST Martin, a luxury hotel in Maui and Goat Island in Newport. Dollar for dollar Sea Whale is the winner.

Wow. I live in Newport but needed a break from the daily grind so I decided to lookup rates on Google---for the price and location this is the best spot. This is now my home away from home. I stayed in the smallest room available but found it feeling very comforting. The windows open up to a beautiful view of the sunset and the guests as far as I've experienced have all been quiet and respectful during the wee hours of the night. There's even a nice lawn with Adirondack chairs overlooking the sunset. It's the perfect spot. Who knew, I've been driving past it for three years and never noticed. It's so small and quaint, you'd pass it if you weren't paying attention. Now and forever this will be my simple spot of joy and relaxation.

This motel has good service and Jeff was sooo helpful! He told us where lots of stuff is.The beds were comfy but sorta small. Yet, there was no TV guide which would not have been much trouble to add. I am glad there was a refrigerator and a microwave for our breakfast. It is easier to just grab breakfast but it doesn't matter to us because we are not in a hurry. The location was great, as it was right by the beach and pizza place. The cliff walk is a great activity to do. Another good thing is Jeff let us get in to our hotel early.(which might be because it was pouring down rain.) That is all I have to stay about this great place!

Last minute trip to Rhode Island for Memorial Day Weekend and needed a place to stay that wouldn't break the bank. To be honest I've never stayed at a motel before the word motel actually really scares me and makes me itchy all over!!! However, I saw this last minute deal for $151 plus tax and decided it was worth the risk. There's no way in hell, I'm paying $500 a night to stay in Newport. The motel is right on the edge of Middletown walk 5 minutes and your in Newport. Walk to Easton Beach in less than 10 minutes and the view of Easton Pond is quite nice. We had a city view room which basically means your staying in a room on the bottom floor. The room was a good size, had a queen bed, couch, tv, fridge, microwave and a dehumidifier. The room did have a slight musty smell when we got there but open the windows and it's fine. We were surprised to see how clean the room was, especially the bathroom. Even cleaner than some of the 4 star hotels I've stayed in. My only complaint was the bed needs an upgrade. Overall a great place to stay for a good price.

Very disappointed. We made reservations and when we went in for check in time they seemed very stumped by my children. They told us that "this wouldn't be the best place for you to stay". To go and try across the street. I was very confused as to why but later came to notice there was no other reason except the fact that i have brown kids

Such an amazing experience! I traveled with my twin toddlers and it was walking distance to the beach .. the hotel itself is so clean and inviting and the owners are so caring and amazing!! I highly recommend it and will be staying here every year!!

This was our perfect home base for two nights while touring the Newport mansions. It's maybe a 5-10 minute drive into town, and you won't find a better value. We chose a garden level room in the back, with a beautiful view of the pond. Sea Whale is older but you can tell it's well-loved and maintained by the owners. Speaking of the owners, they were very friendly and personable. We will be returning on our next trip to Newport.

This cozy cool local Inn has become a yearly vacation spot. The owners are super nice. Love the manicured lawn and picnic tables to watch the daily sunsets w cheese and wine before going out on the town. Great view! Close to everything. Rooms are clean and reasonable.

Adorable! I can't wait to stay here again! It's reminiscent of my childhood. If you are used to spending 500+ a night, this may not be for you, but if you harken back to the good old days of clean, comfortable and close to everything? Stay here!

I was looking for a place to stay at last minute and, this place turned out to be very pleasant. First of all, the owners were extremely nice. They had a room available and let me check in earlier. This place has a beautiful view of the pond which, I could see from inside the room and deck. They have beautiful flowers everywhere which gives it that cozy homie feeling. They also have some picnic tables on their beautiful lawn if you want to sit and relax by the pond. To top it off, their prices were very reasonable considering the area. I definitely lucked out.

They take great care of this place!!! It's a little dated but well thought out and immaculately clean. It's not modern luxury but nice basic amenities and good value. This was our 3 stay over 5 years (and our 4th stay over 10). Great experience every time. This time we booked Expedia and stayed Fri/Sat nights over peak season. Great value.

Great motel with great views of the pond and ocean! Around the corner from First Beach and a 3 minutes drive to downtown Newport. Perfect location and totally affordable!

Perfect for what it is. I stayed here when our favorite hotel was outrageously priced. Super clean. This is a place to shower and sleep. Great owners on site. Perfect for the surfer as the beach is close. Perfect for the no frills traveler. If you want bells and whistles go elsewhere. Walking distance to a couple of bars and restaurants and a quick mart.

I traveled with my parents midweek, and we were in need of a last minute place to stay in and around Newport. The other hotels were very overpriced, and I found Sea Whale Motel on Yelp. Let me tell you, this is the cleanest motel I've ever stayed in. The couple who owns it is very kind & welcoming, and they seemed ready and willing to address any issues that might have transpired over our stay (although there were none.) The location is great, with beautiful views by the water right by our back deck. There is ample parking in the back. Sheets were clean & furniture was dusted. We had a very pleasant stay. Can't beat the price. Will definitely opt for this motel in comparison to bigger, overpriced hotels in the area.

We had reserved another motel, however they were understaffed and told us we had to wait to check in at 4pm because 60 rooms needed to be cleaned and they were understaffed. I used Yelp to find a place and I liked the reviews so I called and spoke to the owner Terri. She was great. We did pay a lot more than I think we needed to $157, but the room was clean and the view was beautiful. So to me, the money is worth every penny. Thank you Terri for getting us in! We had an awesome time.

I spent one night here and hope to make it back. Perfect location close to the beach. Beautiful flowers, a nice lawn in back overlooking the pond and the room was immaculately clean. Coffee, fridge and microwave in the room make traveling with little kids so much easier.

I was a little nervous staying at a motel, mainly because what I've heard and known of motels reputation of being seedy, dirty and outdated. When I saw the picture online of this motel I was not sure if this would be a good choice. Not because it looked bad, it was just very plain. Let me say, it was the cleanest place I have ever stayed in. Not one speck of dirt in the bathroom! I've stayed in very upscale hotels that were not this clean! The owner, Terri was very nice and even contacted me the day before our arrival to verify my reservation and time of check in. There was a good working refrigerator and microwave in the room, that was a deal breaker when booking the room which another hotel in the area for the same price did not. The back lawn was beautiful and peaceful with plenty of lawn chairs and a couple of picnic tables looking out at the water. We even saw a swan swimming! For the negatives (which were very minor) the room was a little dated in decor, and the bed was squeaky. We also had some trouble with connecting and staying connected to the internet. (We didn't mention it to Terri since we weren't in our room much and wasn't a big deal) And the walls were pretty thin, we could hear our neughbor whistling in the bathroom lol. Overall, we would definitely stay here again. I loved the fact we could park in front right outside our room (which was actually a second story room with a shared balcony out back).

We stayed here on Saturday night and it is a good place. Clean and tidy, quiet and nice view (though there was fog when we were in RI). We booked through its website and it was $10 cheaper than bookings.com

I came to Rhode Island to celebrate my Birthday for the weekend and my fiance' and I decided to be spontaneous and book a room night by night.! Well, the second night we were calling everywhere and even comfort inn wanted 250 and up!...I called a few motels with good reviews on Yelp and they told me they did not have Vacancy. Here is the trick, Drive and walk in yourself! let them see who you are, and ask politely. I walked into 3 motels that I called that previously said no openings and each had at least 1-3 openings!! So Anyways, We finally walked into Sea Whale . It was very nice to my surprise. The rooms are on the lake side ( No loud street noise!), FREE parking lot, Wi-fi is included as well as Cable Tv( yes its an old tubular tv but who cares we watched a few shows went off to dinner and back to sleep.) The bathroom was great and the water got hot quickly. ( Quicker than the expensive inn we paid for the night before with freezing ice water). The beds were a little firm for my liking, but the sheets smelled like laundry soap so I knew they were clean! No bugs, the room stayed cool all night. There was even a pull out couch , mini fridge, coffee maker,desk, everything you needed! Terri at the front desk was an absolute DOLL to speak with! I swear she is the nicest lady ever! She gave us great dinner recommendations and a great price on our last minute room booking of less than $100! Boy were we happy to find this place. We were in town and wanted to tour the rest of the mansions in Newport because one day is not enough! Wonderful place, definitely recommend.

Had a wonderful stay for an evening while celebrating a family event. The motel is clean, comfortable and cozy. The owners are welcoming and go out of their way to ensure a great experience. Beautiful flowers abound and the view from our room was delightful. We will return.
