"The SeaCow Eatery offers a substantial breakfast with dishes like “Moo La La” French toast, “Moo Mania” home fries, and the six-egg John’s Omelet. It has been open for more than 25 years, though it has changed hands a few times." - Travel + Leisure Editors

It was after noon on a Monday and it was quite a wait. Time to meet other people and catch some breezes. Kids played the ring game. We were seated outside and was served quickly.

We have been eating at the Sea Cow for over 12 years. It is ALWAYS our first stop when we arrive on the island! Staff members have become friends, the food has never disappointed~ fast, hot and delicious, the atmosphere is comfortably casual. When we volunteer at Botany Bay we are often asked, ‘Where is a good place to eat?’ Our answer is always, “Sea Cow!”. P.S. Miss Martha’s pies are amazing, too!

My family and I had dinner at SeaCow Eatery for the first time last night, and we were so impressed! The food was incredibly fresh and delicious, and the customer service was excellent. We had a wonderful experience and will definitely be returning the next time we're in Edisto.

Our lunch was great. As a group of 5 we had different menu choices and all were excellent. The place was clean, Parking was accommodating and the service was spot on. Looking forward to coming back for dinner one night.

We went to the Seacow Eatery for my sister’s birthday dinner and the service and food was amazing. We went on a Saturday night with no reservations and were able to all sit together (10) within 30 minutes. Everyone’s food was great, I ordered the Hawaiian chicken and it was delicious. Thanks for making our family visit to Edisto a great experience. Sidebar: I also met the owner while packing sandbags in the rain before the tropical storm! 🤣☔️

Google
I’ve been looking for a spot like this on Edisto for a year or two now, and this spot did not disappoint. Great food, atmosphere and service was very cool and laid back. We will definitely be back to try some other food, but I had the low country boil, and my wife had fish sandwich, both of which were very good!

Gabriella

Google
A tasty, homey spot with some delicious classics. Would recommend their grits, fries, and baked beans. The servers are all kind people and are thorough in their work. The atmosphere is moderately clean and pretty sticky. Most of the food is decent and scratches the itch created by the South Carolina climate.

Google
The fit a family of 11 with only a two hour notice which was very accommodating! Though the front hostess could attempt to be even a little bit friendly & it would've made a better first impression. Food is your average brunch fare, nothing particularly standout. However it's affordable, quick with a nice atmosphere.

Yelp
This is always one of my favorites when I'm in Edisto. I've had multiple specials and other items from the menu and it never disappoints. Service is great as well.

Yelp
If you are reading this, you are probably looking for a place to grab some food. Do yourself a favor and skip Coots. SeaCow will deliver. Great atmosphere, great service and great food, total opposite of Coots.... I went with the Fried Steak. Lightly battered and chicken fried steak in excellent mushroom brown gravy. The batter fries are to die for, I ordered a double side of them. Wifey went with the Fisherman's Platter - oyster and shrimp. Both meals came with a very tasty hot roll, yummy...... Collard greens and Fried Okra. Excellent! I hate greens, but her sides were awesome. Shrimp and oysters did not disappoint, but honestly, they are typical of the area. Toss up what is better for seafood and both equally great - Whaley's vs. SeaCow, both A++++.

Yelp
We've visited Edisto for the last 20 years and I can't believe I don't have a review here yet. We make it a point to come here. Only 6 of the 14 of us, went to eat this night which made getting a table much easier. The waitress recommended we sit outside to feel the breeze as inside was packed and the covered porch was hot. I got the Hawaiian Chicken. I always get the Hawaiian Chicken. One time, they took it off the menu and I still asked for Hawaiian Chicken and they made it for me. Chicken, Teriyaki sauce and pineapple. Side of Cole slaw and bread that tastes like a doughnut. The only negative thing I'll mention and it's fixable is my father had the field peas and said they were too salty to eat.

Yelp
Unfortunately, we were unable to really experience SeaCow, which was not our intention. The hostess was unwelcoming, cold, and dismissive; so much that we did not even receive her name or a greeting only that she was hosting on March 2, 2025 at 11:30am. When asked about a table inside she mentioned she would put us on the list. We followed up with a typical inquiry of the duration of the wait, she replied "I don't know", and only after exchanging a concerned look she replied, "it could be 14 or 45 minutes, I don't know, because anyone can get up at anytime, but I will just call your name", with tone and body language that demonstrated potential irritation and unwillingness to positively respond to common requests of a potential patron. However, upon going inside the restaurant Ms. Reagan received our comment about the incident regarding the hostess and stated she would check into it and she was sorry it happened. As first time guest, this was really disappointing, given such a high recommendation from Wyndham Ocean Ridge, whom we trust as VIP owners. We truly enjoyed our stay on Edisto for our celebratory birthday weekend and hope that SeaCow will invest in quality improvement opportunities for their staff, specifically for the hosting crew.

Yelp
Ate here while on vacation for lunch. Friendly staff, great menu options, had a great meal and great service.

Yelp
The Fries Shrimp and Flounder were Great! Good atmosphere! Nice folks with good prices ! Thank

Yelp
We live at Edisto and try to support the local restaurants but we find it is difficult with the high prices and quality of the food. Went to SeaCow recently and decided to try their grilled grouper. We were so disappointed. The piece was very small and thin and it didn't have much flavor. For $23 I would have expected a little more. The mango salsa was tasty though and saved the dish. On the plus side their pies never disappoint. The staff is always friendly and remember the locals.

Yelp
We visited Edisto Island with three other couples and went here for lunch on Sunday. Seated at a table for eight after about a ten minute wait or so, which wasn't bad considering there were quite a few people there. I ordered the Shrimp Po Boy sandwich with fries. I must say it was the worst Po Boy sandwich I've ever had. The bun almost tasted as if it had been toasted too much, although it was not dark at all. There was absolutely no sauce of any kind on the sandwich, just fried shrimp, a nice red tomato and a piece of lettuce. Very very dry. They should have put some kind of sauce or at least mayo on the bun. My wife and one other person ordered the hamburger. She ate half of it and said it was terrible. It was very hard and when you looked at the meat it was very compacted....not like normal ground beef or chuck. She said it may have been her fault as she asked for it to be well done. However, our friend also order the same and said his hamburger was the same way. He had visited Edisto a year ago and had the same experience last year with a hamburger. He didn't care for the fries but several of us thought the fries were good. One couple had the chicken salad and liked it. Another couple had the fried oysters and said they were good. Service was not too bad....but the food definitely could have been better. I was so surprised to see so many great reviews especially for the Po Boy Shrimp Sandwich. Either I had a bad day or everyone else had a different sandwich than I did. I don't think we'll be going back. We at at another restaurant the next day and their Po Boy's were great.

Nicole K.

Yelp
Very strange and awkward service but great food. Loved that we could eat the porch with our pups. We will be back.

Yelp
May I just take a moment and give SeaCow Eatery a chef's kiss?! The food here was so good and they're dog friendly. My family and I ordered: clam chowder, mini crab cakes, shrimp po boy, fried oysters/ shrimp/flounder/scallops, grilled scallops and a salad. Everything was seasoned to perfection. Service was great and it is a really laid back restaurant. If I was having a bad day, I would come here and all my problems would go away. I would literally come back to Edisto Island just to eat the food here. This is the type of food where everyone at the table is quiet; because, it's that good! I wish I would've taken pictures; but, I was so hungry that I couldn't stop eating. Really worth trying!

Ami A.

Yelp
This is a local dinner. The breakfast was basic nothing really stood out. The omelette was bland, the home fries and grits were disappointing. Service was friendly and located just a few blocks from the beach.

Stone G.

Yelp
We go to Edisto Beach every summer and this is always one of our first stops, the French toast is delicious, and the staff is very nice.

Kristi S.

Yelp
We both had the shrimp po boy. DELICIOUS generous portion with fries. Good coleslaw slaw. Service was quick and pleasant. We were there at 3 pm and were the only ones there for a while. Lots of outdoor seating, pleasantly air conditioned and comfortable inside. Would eat a pile of that shrimp again.

Christina F.

Yelp
Fabolous breakfast. Creamy grits, amazing g crab cake. It's busy for a reason! This place is like eating breakfast at your Gmas home, small and delicious

Erica C.

Yelp
Stopped here after the Fall Festival for a small snack for a group of us- a medium pizza with half black olives and half pepperoni and a meatball sub (large) not pictured. Pizza came out fairly quickly- hot, cheesy, good flavor, and a slight crispness which I love. The meatball sub took a bit to come out- they were waiting on another cook and there was some blocking of roads due to the festival. The owner was very apologetic and threw in extra chips for the kids. Meatball sub was a good size and plants for three kids to split. The bread was delicious as well. We spoke with the owner a bit- they are the third set of owners, took over December 2021. Super nice and friendly.

Paul F.

Yelp
Haven't been here for maybe 5 years but we gave it another chance and pleasantly surprised. Ate here for breakfast on our way home from a week at the beach. Service and food was excellent. Prices are a little steep but if you don't do addons it's ok. Would I go back - deffo, it's on our list for next time.

Celia P.

Yelp
Cute little cafe in Edisto, sandwiches were good and the grits were so homey! Very relaxing and the waiters were very nice!

P V.

Yelp
Just ok crab cake burnt big salads were good grits not so good not creamy kind of dry and not hot

Ivy S.

Yelp
Absolutely love SeaCow! The family friendly atmosphere is great for any meal and I have never ordered anything here I didn't like!

Billy R.

Yelp
Great food especially when few offerings in the area. Speedy service, very good coffee and comfortable. Looks like a local favorite.

Michael Q.

Yelp
The SeaCow Eatery is VERY much in the spirit of Edisto. SeaCow is a chill, beachside restaurant that stays well within its price point, feel, and expectations. You go to SeaCow for sandwiches, beers, and to enjoy the outside. Everyone is in a good mood, happy to be in Edisto, and basking in the sun. Even the little treehouse style strip it's in is adorable; there are a few easily walkable shops. We ordered a few beers, sandwiches, and the shrimp salad. We REALLY enjoyed the dill in the shrimp salad. Very unique. The chicken sandwich and fries were hot, fresh, and needed after a long day of moving boxes and cleaning. Portions are small. Again, at this price point, they're accurate and hey, you can always order more. Our only constructive feedback would be to have the server confirm each order 1-2 minutes after delivery. Both our salad (extra items asked to remove) and sandwich (without bacon and cheese we asked to add) were delivered wrong. Unfortunately, we were unable to tell our server for 5 minutes and moved forward. There were only three other tables while we were there so it wasn't because the kitchen or staff was busy. Yes, we'll absolutely give the SeaCow another try and double check our order immediately after it's delivered.

Coni K.

Yelp
This is our favorite restaurant in Edisto! The food is amazing, and the price, quantity and quality is great! The meals come with two sides. There are delicious homemade desserts (pies, etc) too! It is a quaint, interesting indoor/outdoor spot with great service as well! This is one place to not miss!

Elissa H.

Yelp
DELICIOUS. I got the shrimp po' boy and my friend got the flounder sandwich and said it was amazing. You could tell the shrimp was fresh. I will definitely make this a stop every time I go to Edisto.

John Z.

Yelp
We have been to the Sea Cow multiple times before and have us usually had an excellent experience. Unfortunately, Gail was not working today and the rest of the staff all seem to be in a bad mood.

Ismael H.

Yelp
If you're looking for some delicious fried seafood, look no further than SeaCow Eatery. This was some of the best fried seafood I had in a long time. It may not be gourmet, but if you come back often you won't wanna leave without stopping here at least once. Also be sure to try their delicious home made pies! Just a side-note, just try to stick with the seafood.

Neighborhood W.

Yelp
We loved our meal here. The waitress was wonderful, and the food delicious. The deck seating was beautiful. It was a much needed wonderful experience after an awful experience at Coot's bar and grill that ended up in us actually leaving without even eating (horribly rude waitress at Coot's). The seacow eatery really saved our evening and we will be back!!!

Yelp
This place is one of our choice eateries while on the Island...and well, we hit an unlucky time to visit. We got there prime time, almost 7 pm on Sunday...and the wait was nearly an hour. We wanted to be seated on the patio, but given that the restaurant closed at 8 pm, and the sun was waning, we decided to get the first available...and ended up getting the partial patio seating. Anyway, I must mention that on Edisto Island, many restaurants aren't even operational...for various reasons. Closed WAY too early, not at all or whatever, and this was a huge, recurring disappointment. Maybe since May is still off season, maybe due to the pandemics, maybe due to being on Sunday...whatever the case, the dining options were very limited! I DO give props to SeaCow for being one of very few restaurants that remained diligent, and stayed open (though it took customers only 'til 8 pm). Second bit of disappointment. They were out of Clam Chowder, THE one thing I wanted from this restaurant. This is the other thing...not just this, but many/most places throughout this island...they're just out of things, no matter what time you get there. ANYWAY, I ended up getting their Fried Flounder/Scallops combo...and as usual, they were good. Fried Calamari was surprisingly good too. Honestly, I just wasn't in the mood for this type of food (Fried on Fried?!?), but again, the choices on the island was limited. There are zero ethnic foods on this island (minus the Tacos and the Pizzas). Still, I've always thought the foods were solid here. My husband and son seemed to enjoy their foods too. The only reason I'm going down one star is due to my disappointment of them not having Clam Chowder. I was also quite frustrated with the long wait...and NOT getting the desired patio seating. I DO realize that the long wait and the seating issue wasn't necessarily their fault...but can't say that I enjoyed the dining experience due to all these glitches.

Yelp
Amazing! A must dine! Great southern cooking! Do you like sweet tea? This sweet tea is better than Mimi's, don't tell her! Martha's pies made fresh every day were so delish (peanut butter pie and key lime, both creamy and delicious.). The shrimp and fish were perfectly battered. The blackened salmon was on point! Our server was the absolute best (I do not know her name), she was on it, so super sweet, one of the best servers I have had in A LONG time! Made our trip 3x better. Not a lot of seating inside, so if it is raining plan accordingly! Would be great even to go!!

Cynthia R.

Yelp
Great staff - extremely friendly and attentive but the food leaves a lot to be desired as far as dinner menu. Fried, over-cooked...taste like frozen food, not fresh. However the bread is wonderful.

Sarah T.

Yelp
We come here for breakfast every morning when on the island. Food is always good and service is great. It gets crowded so you better get there early for breakfast. I recommend this restaurant.

Angelika F.

Yelp
Breakfast was okay - my eggs came out cold, we ordered chocolate chip pancakes and received regular, the sausage patties were dried out like they had been sitting under a heat lamp for a while. Only redeeming quality was the French toast. My husband said it was pretty good. Service was horrendous. We asked for napkins twice before receiving them, and the waitress seemed inconvenienced each time. The waitress seemed like she hated being there. For the overall offerings, quality, and service, this place is overpriced.

Dorenda D.

Yelp
Delicious food and excellent service. my husband's Reuben was not greasy and my curry chicken salad was tasty.

Patti K.

Yelp
Tried the SeaCow for the first time today. It was a beautiful day, so we took our dog knowing that their porch was dog friendly. Our server was a nice young guy, but he seemed a little wary of our dog who happens to be about a hundred pounds. But our dog is very well behaved, and the server was a little more chill as the visit continued. I had the oyster po boy, which was so loaded that I had to eat some oysters before attempting to bite into my sandwich. Fries were perfectly cooked, and the slaw was a good blend of cabbage, mayo and spices and very little sugar, which was great. I don't like that overly sweet stuff. Hubby had the Philly and had no complaints. Our server never let our drinks get empty, and was kind without being overly attentive. We liked it. Good food. Good service.

Mike B.

Yelp
Went with a group of 7. Small seating area, but has a patio, but was too cold for us to sit outside. Typical deep fried seafood. They got some of our order wrong, but fixed it quickly. OK if you are nearby, but I would not travel far to seek it out....

Margaret C.

Yelp
Friendly Folks & Fabulous Food. My go-to spot on the beach that's open all day! Super chill atmosphere with a wide variety of breakfast, lunch & dinner dishes. Also the best homemade desserts. I love sitting under the palm trees on the large deck, but the screen porch and inside seating are a great backup.

Nora R.

Yelp
Loved this place! The service was great and food was delicious. I recommend the sea cow sandwich (which they were able to do gluten free bread for me) and the collards. My husband had the clam chowder and a burger. All were good.

Nicole E.

Yelp
It's wet and nasty out and the air is on here. It's good I put a jacket on to come here then. We got our water, took a bit of time to get in our order. The staff are all wearing masks here. Tiffany wasn't warm but she got in our order and got our food out too. There's 6 tables total inside, 3 outside and 3 seats at the counter. Only one table seem to be social distanced away from the other tables, but they are by the walkway where everyone comes into the place. Is it me or isn't $2.50 a steep charge to add sliced tomatoes to your 2 eggs, seriously? This is a deal compared to getting a side order of tomatoes, which is $3.95, that's crazy to me. We ordered a John's omelet with biscuits and home fries, since making your own with the same ingredients a la carte is more expensive, no surprise here. I know someone who will be in a food coma for our tour of the island today. Their plastic cups have all been chewed up, probably best to get a straw or don't drink any water or beverages here. I think it's time to retire the plastic cup they gave to me. My husband got a newer one. Food takes a bit to come out, but their advantage is there's not much open on a Monday. Wishing we had picked up some eggs and breakfast or brunch items at the Hi-Low last night now. The chef seems upset or he's clumsy, hearing things banging and crashing in the back kitchen. The John's omelet is huge. They do use fresh veggies and ingredients. The biscuit is beyond bone dry. It's hard to get down even. The home fries are simple potato cubes, nothing special. The crab cake is blah and has mostly pulverized crab meat in it, no chunks at all. It looks like canned tuna fish and it's clear the crab comes from a can, it's filled with a lot of tiny shredded crab meat. I covered the grits, crab cake and eggs on my plate with hot sauce to get it down, it's all so bland and tasteless to me. The crab cake is the size of a large hamburger pattie. I would rather a smaller more chunky crab cake than what they gave me. I do have to mention the crab cake smells not so fresh and fishy to me. I get the grits tend to be bland down here, so if you don't hope for grits with a bit of flare, you will be happy with them here. The best part of my meal was the not fresh raisin toast and the subpar apple butter jam from Smuckers. Safe to say stick to the omelets here and get a bagged toasty instead of their dried out biscuits.

Joel B.

Yelp
Great food as well as service. Affordable menu as well. A definite stop on your vacation.

Michael C.

Yelp
A diner with an ice cream shop vibe, the SeaCow wasn't our first spot, but we were glad they had space. We initially tried to hit up Dockside Restaurant and Bar, but they had a sign out front saying they were understaffed, and after 5 minutes of trying to flag anyone, they told us it was most likely a 30 minute wait, and we figured we could do better. The SeaCow was open and had space, and while the host said he could seat us, he basically transferred that role to one of the short staffed servers instead, so we likewise stood around until the bench was cleared. Note: I recommend sitting indoors or at least in the covered porch. As this is close the water, we were swarmed by bugs. Our great server did get us some bug spray, but stick to indoors. Like most spots, this is mainly a fried seafood joint, with some southern land options as well. I know my sister got the shrimp and grits, my dad got a fried seafood platter, can't remember what my mom got, and I went with the chicken fried steak. The chicken fried steak is a special that they do, and while I do love fried seafood, I am also a sucker for a chicken fried steak. And the steak was good, enjoyed the fries and collards it came with. Overall, we enjoyed our meal here, it just was on the lower end of the spots we went to. Do recommend checking them out, again, inside. And probably stick with their fried seafood.

Nita B.

Yelp
Great breakfast! Take my advice and get the French Toast ! Three huge slices and cooked to perfection. It's really crowded really fast . Expect to wait during the busy season. You can eat outside as well but you have to check in with the hostess. These ladies bust their butt and smile doing it !

Jaxs F.

Yelp
A little cafe near the beach. The shrimp salad wrap was very, very tasty with just the right amount of mayo and spices. You have a choice of two sides. I selected grits with cheese and also collard greens. The grits were stunningly delicious. The collard greens were perfect. We can't wait to go back for breakfast. Service was fantastic. I wish I took a photo of the menu so readers could learn what the Sea Cow is.

Jennifer B.

Yelp
We came to this restaurant because the reviews looked promising. I don't know what happened but the service was terrible. We sat and were greeting within 5 minutes. The waitress took our drink order and left. She was gone about 10 minutes, when she came back she had forgotten the drinks. At that point she took our order, again she was gone about 10 minutes when most of the food comes out. We still hadn't gotten our drinks. As for the food, it was just ok, nothing special. I had a side salad and a bowl of clam chowder. The chowder wasn't hot, it was more tepid. My husband had the shrimp po'boy. He said the shrimp had no real flavor. My daughter had a cheeseburger, she was happy with her food.

Alyssa V.

Yelp
Excellent Service + Chill Ambiance + Delicious Food = Amazing Time! When we arrived there were a few outdoor tables from which to choose, but we wanted one in the shade, Shana, the server working, cleaned it off right away while we waited, which is awesome service, and set the tone for our casual dinner for four. I must say that I do know that I'm one of those picky customers.... I've been a server before, and we called customers like me: "high maintenance" I drink 3-4 diet sodas with my meal, often ask for extra sauce, napkins, etc, I love it when the server checks on us, and when they make suggestions. Shana, our server was all that, and more. I am not exaggerating when I say she was above par. Every restaurant on Edisto, and elsewhere for that matter, needs a Shana. The food was yummy, please see my attached photos. The service and food were actually was quite quick, especially considering it was getting busier once our appetizer arrived. This pretty restaurant with a nice selection of food, definitely is a must visit if you're on the island, as they have a varied menu and excellent service. Dessert Alert: Delicious Homemade Desserts! Our server suggested dessert, and told us a woman there makes them. We ordered Key Lime Pie (great) and Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie, which tasted like a pie made of peanut butter cups, I highly recommend! Check out my photos! Thanks Shana for making our casual dinner exceptional!

Dunn F.

Yelp
It's a cute place with a cozy feel. Shaina was my waitress and she was super friendly. Everything is mostly fried and yummy. But wait, get a dessert. Get all of them and share. Wished they had cocktails. Overall, it was so enjoyable.

Joanna O.

Yelp
Tried this place today. Food was good however I felt like the staff hurried us to make decisions and check out more than anything. We had 3 different people wait on us and another who checked us out but wouldn't leave the table till I left a tip on the card. Probably won't be back. However the shrimp po boy was really good and flounder was not worth $20 but it was a good meal

Kare B.

Yelp
The fried shrimp, fried, cole slaw and cheese grits were fresh and delicious . Service was outstanding . We stop every time we are at Edisto Beach.

Doreen S.

Yelp
Loved the peel and eat shrimp to go. Enjoyed on our rental balcony. Going back for more tonight

Jennifer P.

Yelp
Delicious food and pleasant staff. Restaurant is homey and comfortable. The young adults working there are courteous and quick to clean up behind you. A lot of people move through as it's a very popular place. Definitely recommend.

Millie O.

Yelp
Great costumer service and a beautiful restaurant. The staff was very nice and was on top of our drinks and our needs! We went with a group of 6 and everyone liked their food! I recommend this place to anyone coming to edisto!
