On the Grid : Seadog Sushi

"Hang out on the patio or inside the brick-walled dining room at this modern, BYOB sushi spot. Michelin recommended for 4 years in a row, the sushi here does NOT disappoint. Indulge in one of their signature rolls (the Volcano and Triple S are at the top of the list) or delicious appetizers, like the hamachi carpaccio. With a sexy, dimly lit atmosphere, this is the perfect place for you and your hot date!" - Serafini Creative

Google
Decent sushi spot with a nice patio area in the back. We stopped in for a quick bite before heading to the Salt Shed for a show and the sushi was really good. The portions were larger and the food came out pretty quickly. We sat inside, but noticed there was a nice patio in the back as well. We especially enjoyed the goma-ae with the sesame sauce!

The sushi was good, you can bring your own alcohol! The problem is the service, way too slow. I don’t recommend the vegetables with peanut butter it’s gross.

Whenever we're in the city the debate comes up for if we should come to Seadog for sushi since we love it so much. Great food that is fairly prices and Everytime we've been there the staff has been super friendly.

Google
❣️ BYOB. Excellent Menu. Now that I have $7.50 from Rewards based from ONE visit, I will be back for more. 😋 ❤️❤️ The Menu with photos. I ordered the SALMON FANS SET for amusement that is met with excitement (probably the only minty Perilla leaf I know that is served with sushi. It shows Chef's sophisticated taste and flavor). Perilla Leaf is not necessarily t.h.a.t expensive but, it's hard to find (HMart). LARGE SASHIMI PLATTER is a better value when you order a side dish of sushi rice, b.u.t ... I can't eat raw fish that much as it's an acquired taste, not brought up with it. So, I happily settled with LARGE SUSHI PLATTER. Note, the spec of herb or sesame on sushi matters as it enhances flavor a bit. You may omit 😮 soy sauce if you wish as there is a wasabi dot in between rice and fish. 🥰 Excellent thoughtful service. 👍👍

Google
Very good Sushi place. Good price, great quality. It's also a bit small which makes it cozy. I 'll keep coming.

Google
Went here with my wife for my birthday. The sushi was fresh and delicious, the machi were wonderfully creative and the flavors well layered. The service was slow, but worth the wait. It’s BYOB, we brought along a bottle of Ryoshi Zake Junmai Ginjo. It paired very well with the entire meal. We will be back!

Google
Ordered delivery from here and it was great!! Fish was delicious and sizable, rolls were good and they had plenty of variety, and they packed it well. Will be adding this to the rotation!!

It's beautiful, it's delicious, there are options for any kind of diet. This place is the best of its kind for miles around.

Yelp
Experience: With a party of four, we had to make reservations prior to arrival. This was on a Friday evening. Unsure how crowded it gets, but I suggest possibly making reservation. Parking: Free parking on residential and side streets. Just be aware of signs of course. I suggest going there after school hours, so that you can parking around the area without any hassle. Worth: The sushi is good. If you are near the neighborhood, it's definitely a place to try at least once. Just fyi, it is pretty pricey, however it seems like a cute place for a date.

Yelp
Came here with a small group of friends on a Thursday night and it was not very busy so we had our choice of seating. They must do a decent takeout /delivery business! Dine in is BYOB. The sushi was good and reasonably priced. Lots of options on the menu so something for everyone! I would recommend if looking if a decent BYOB sushi spot. Service was friendly and attentive as well.

Yelp
Man... this place took a dive. I came in 2020 with a group of girlfriends and loved it but we've had it twice now since moving to wicker park and very poor experiences both times. This time we ordered: - spicy California roll - spicy eel roll - spicy tuna - salad - steak stir fry The rolls were falling apart, tiny, and overpriced. Like the kind from a Chinese buffet. They also only gave me 1 of my two tuna rolls. So glad I checked before going home. They quickly made it but made no apologies, Comps, or anything. The steak dish came with like 3 Oz of meat and the salad was like a cup of mixed greens for $6.50. We will not be ordering from here again.

Yelp
I visited for my best friends birthday and it was so nice! The staff was friendly and the sushi was so delicious and fresh! I highly recommend the vegetable gyoza. The feeling was delicious, and the crunchy shell was savory, and did I mention its BYOB? I highly recommend!

Yelp
This place has seriously GONE DOWN HILL! went here about 8 years ago and had a wonderful time. Now the quality of the sushi is horrible and the whole meal I was worried I was getting food poisoned... There are so many fabulous sushi spots in Chicago that I definitely will not be returning. Save your sushi dollars for a place that's worth it!

Yelp
Was craving sushi and stumbled across this place because they had tables available for dinner so decided to go to this place. They had a few tables in front but had more in the back of the restaurant. Service was amazing and their food was decent. We thought the coco beef was tender but lacked flavor, it needed sauce or something. For the sushi rolls, I thoroughly enjoyed the spicy hamachi.

Yelp
My husband and I received a special treat for #valentinesday The Lover  Maki from @seadogsushibar A heart-shaped maki filled with spicy smoked salmon, squash tempura, and masago, wrapped in tuna So fresh and delicious! They are currently open for curbside pick up and delivery. They offer lots of  delicious Japanese sushi. Thanks @chicagofoodiegirl and @seadogsushibar for the delicious treat! It's easy to see why they are a four time Michelin recommended restaurant. The food is just that good! Do yourself a favor and try them today!

Yelp
My bf won a free lover's roll off IG. Thank you! Likes - Everything was fresh and tasty! We ordered the spider roll (soft shell crab), spicy salmon, and the free lover's roll. - I liked the spider roll and lover's roll the most.

Yelp
Let's start with the good... they have a lovely patio and the food was all good to great. We could order via the app... but that seemed to confuse our server. Our poor server, she was in the weeds from the moment we got there. I'm not sure what was going on but I wanted to give her a hug. She was really hustling too. I loved that there was a whole section for vegan/vegetarian items. But the vegan sushi set was mostly very bland, except for the inari which was delicious. I should have just ordered inari and oshinko and been done. The rest of the rolls and salad and all the things were very tasty. The bad... it was beyond the restaurant's control but there was a sewer smell out on the patio the night we dined so whenever the wind shifted, it was pretty gross. I would definitely go back and maybe do a sniff test before accepting a seat outside.

Yelp
Seadog wins at take out sushi. Here's the situation. I have gotten take out at a few sushi places and seadog is the official winner. you get your sushi all nicely wrapped in foil for each different type so ideally they dont get mixed/shaken up too much. I love their scallop and green dragon. Their eel sauce is really unique and sweet. I like it a lot and always make sure to get something with that eel sauce. IDK how they do it but it's quite addicting! Ive ordered from here over 10 times. I think using an outside carrier is better than ordering from them directly by calling and having them deliver to you. I tried that only once and that was a HANGRY scare. It's more reliable thru doordash or some other delivery service. Again, official favorite take out sushi during this corona pandemic. Deff ordering again soon.

Yelp
Food was good and the location was nice so we would go here again. It was easy for a group of four of us to walk in and get seated.

Yelp
This place is always a hit. The must tries are the Halloween appetizer, salmon donburi, sea thru and the triple S maki. Everything is SO fresh and full of flavor. I ordered takeout and it was packaged perfectly and tasted unreal!!!
google avatar

Tiana T.

Yelp
Personally not a favorite. Their sushi had a lot of sauce and was too sweet for my liking. I will say they had a HUGE menu and the staff was attentive. Went on a Friday night and walked in and there was no one there.

Yelp
I've been to Seadog Sushi a few times and love this spot. They're currently doing dine in but it's patio seating only. The food is great! I've never had anything from here I didn't like. When you dine in, check in on Yelp and get your free sweet potato tempura while you wait. It's crispy and comes out hot. Food wise the Gomae is tasty. When we ordered takeout it was all in one big lump with sauce, so maybe not the best sharing dish. The flavor of the sauce they put on the spinach was very flavorful, and sweet without being overly so. It was well balanced and we were very happy with it! In the way of rolls I ALWAYS order the Triple S. I have yet to find another place that makes a roll like this; I love sweet potato and salmon and highly recommend it! The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the wait for your food...generally when I'm in the restaurant I don't mind because we order apps and talk while we're waiting. For pickup, I placed an order 30 min early (estimated 30 min prep time per the website), we showed up and they clearly hadn't started making it yet....we ended up waiting another 20-30 minutes for the food. They apologized, but that's a pretty long time to wait considering we ordered ahead. My advice would be to call ahead of time (earlier than you will be there) and tell them you'll be there soon to pick up your order. For pickup, call when you get there and they bring it out. Order through their site to get points so you can get coupons for the future.

Yelp
Incredibly overpriced for mediocre sushi. Each nigiri costs around $5 for one piece, when a better place like 312 Fish Market is half the price for much better quality. Sushi rice tastes like stale Chinese steamed rice, not sushi rice - no hint of vinegar. A total disappointment through and through.

Renee H.

Yelp
I have ordered from Seadog many times. Note that I have not eaten at the restaurant. My review is for delivery. First, I will say the food has been good. However, they NEVER get my order right and they NEVER deliver on time. Each time I have ordered they give an estimated delivery time of an hour. Even if I order at 5:30pm. Even with that time frame, and that I live less than a mile away, it still takes them 80 - 90 minutes to deliver. Just have to say it is frustrating. It is sushi. Plus, the food either arrives cold (miso), warm (sushi and seaweed salads) or wrong products. I have spoken to them many times about the delivery service, but it has not changed. I am disappointed.

Ben J.

Yelp
I've only been here twice (about 3 months in between each visit). Once for pickup and once for a BYOB sit down.. somehow the hostess remembered me from my first pick up. She was very sweet. They have a HUGE menu. Many unique rolls that are really good. The spooky maki was the most interesting sushi i've ever had. Some rolls are eh though. But it's BYOB so, grab a bottle of wine and your spouse or some friends and rip some some sushi. Good stuff, no complaints.

Yelp
During my recent visits, I've noticed two things: the rolls aren't drowned in sweet sauce and the service isn't standoffish. I went early enough to get a seat by the window at one of the tables where there was no crowd. I started with a bowl of the seafood soup. The portion was larger this time, which was perfect. The pan-fried sea scallops were outstanding. And the sea monster was indeed a monster, for it was much larger than usual sushi rolls. Although it was large in size, it was neither overpowering in flavour nor packed with blandness. I finished with three scoops of ice cream (green tea, red bean, and lychee, the last now my favourite). I hope that whatever change happened since my last visit will remain.

Keanna K.

Yelp
I had such a stellar delivery experience! I don't normally write reviews but the food was great and service was 10x better! I hope everyone and Irene in particular knows how thankful I am, especially as I had gotten scammed by a delivery driver and they accommodated without hesitation. I'll definitely be ordering from here again and the plant based options are actually really good! 10/10 and I wish everyone here the best!

Yelp
Love their patio - it's never crowded. It's off to the back away from busy Division and secluded feeling. Great food! BYOB
google avatar

Wendy H.

Yelp
The first thing I noticed was how small the rolls were. The soy sauce it came with was really strong. I thought the dragon roll tasted great but my boyfriend didn't like it and said it was sweeter than what he's used to. The dragon roll ends fell apart from the sauce but they were nice enough to try to contain the sauce so it didn't bleed into the other roll. I didn't really like the Alaskan king crab roll. It seemed a little boring but you can definitely taste the fish eggs in there.

Yelp
The outdoor seating (back patio) currently offered at Seadog Sushi Bar is quaint and perfect for a summer evening. The staff has taken all precautions to make sure that the areas are sanitized and everyone is socially distanced. This was my first time at Seadog so I discovered upon arrival that they are a BYOB establishment (so good to know!) For food we ordered the sweet potato appetizer (pretty heavy on the oil), the gyoza (again, pretty heavy on the oil and overly deep fried) and for my entree I got the salmon don. The fish was super fresh and I very much enjoyed the don. The appetizers were not amazing in my opinion but we probably just didn't order the right things. I would say that the cost is about what you would expect for a sushi dinner. Next time I would like to try the ahi poke bites. I would definitely come back and next time bring some libations as I love the BYOB concept.
google avatar

Alejandro C.

Yelp
Very delicious!!! Great ambiance, as well as the service. We went on a Thursday night when it wasn't that busy over the summer. We were able to sit in the backyard patio were there were cool lights surrounding the patio. It's BYOB! We got a shiitake maki which was crispy on the outside flavorful on the inside. Also, we got the Sea dog tower which came with its own homemade sauce. All the sushi we tried was filling, which we didn't have the need to order more. The server noticed that we were on a friends date and he was able to pace our dinner really well. Can't wait to go back! The only draw back is parking, but it's worth it.
google avatar

Mallory M.

Yelp
Cute, cozy little joint with delicious, fresh sush! I'm sure it's even cuter in the summer with the option to sit out back as well. Loved every roll, and also loved that the menu has photos of every roll so you know what you're getting. BYOB. Will definitely come back

Yelp
I had a good time here. Came here at 6 pm on a Saturday and was a bit worried cuz it was pretty empty. They have more seating toward the back of the restaurant so even if the front is empty there may be more people in the back. We ordered the spicy maki, lover roll, spicy tuna, tuna crunch roll, got the free tempura appetizer. It was plenty of rolls for 2 people and bill was around $70. My favorite roll was the spicy maki with unagi. They actually use large pieces of unagi. One tip is they drown the sushi in a lot of eel sauce and spicy mayo, if this isn't your thing, don't come here. Didn't get to try dessert. Dinner was about $70. Sushi wasn't the freshest I've had but pretty tasty. All the rolls they claimed to be spicy actually delivered and had some heat. The free appetizer is the bomb don't sleep on it. Will be back to try the green tea creme brûlée. Service is good.
google avatar

Ali M.

Yelp
I've ordered delivery twice now and the food is great. Always arrives quickly and tastes fresh. Though the food is tasty, the portions are reallyyyy small and definitely pricey for the size. I'd order 2x what you normally would.
google avatar

Angela T.

Yelp
Super delicious!!! The yellowtail tuna scallion roll was delicious, and the sweet potato appetizer was crispy and flavorful!! I actually recommend using tempura dipping sauce or just soy sauce; the sauce the appetizer comes with over powers the fragrance of the sweet potato too much. Great meal!
google avatar

Diana B.

Yelp
The wonderful customer service made all the difference; I came to Seadog on a Friday night and didn't have a reservation. Knowing they accept walk-ins I was mentally prepared to wait at least 30 minutes to see if anyone had cancelled their reservation. Surprisingly, I was seated right away and waited for my friend to get here. They didn't pressure me to order despite my friend being 40 minutes late! The waitress regularly checked up on me and when my friend did come, we ate and talked for more than 2 hours (over the 90 minute limitation some Chicago restaurants have). I was brought a beer opener without me having to ask and never did I feel rushed to order or leave Seadog. #Winning Everything that I ate: gyoza , miso soup , Sea thru, shumai, and spicy Gunkan sushi set --- a must!!! Can't wait to come back and eat sashimi!
google avatar

Eda X.

Yelp
Seadog is quite the cozy sushi restaurant! I prefer sitting at the bar to be able to see my food in an otherwise dark dining room. Free sweet potato tempura and spicy mayo upon Yelp check-in. Highly recommend the sea monster roll for folks who loves soft shelled crab, cream cheese, bread crumbs and large portions. The spooky and dragon are also tasty choices. I couldn't pass up on matcha crème brûlée. Strong flavors all around. Very pleased with the fresh ingredients and generous amount of sauces for each roll. Late night patrons get 20% off their check after 9pm on weekdays and 10pm on weekends.
google avatar

Jonathan M.

Yelp
Very close to the Division stop! The sushi was absolutely amazing!! The service was great as well! I can't wait to be back for more. I'll make sure to have Mochi again or another dessert! :)

Yelp
This was the first sushi restaurant I visited when I first moved to Chicago 5 years ago . I came back for my bday and everything was just like I remembered. The food was delicious and the staff is really nice . I love how quiet and calm the atmosphere is .they have a huge menu of speciality sushi and other dishes like glazed salmon and teriyaki steak . This place is BYOB
google avatar

Jacqueline F.

Yelp
Sushi was good but it wasn't the best sushi I've ever had. The place was small and intimate but still had a table available in the back area for all 6 of us girls for a bachelorette dinner. They also have outdoor seating available. I liked the vibe as it played club and dancey beats, so it gets you in the mood for going out afterwards. Plus it's BYOB! I only gave it 3 stars because our food took forever to be ready. I think we waited close to 45 minutes for 7 rolls of sushi to get to our table. And for 6 hungry girls who just came from 8 hours of day drinking, that didn't sit too well for me. Also, it seemed like not enough waiters/waitresses were working that day and it was a Saturday night! The place was not packed and there was no excuse for the food to take that long. Plus, those with small bladders beware. There is only one stall for the girls bathroom so I had to go use the men's bathroom as there was a long line to use the women's. So total stalls is 2. Thought u guys should know.
google avatar

Hannah L.

Yelp
Walked in and asked how long the wait was going to be for two people. The hostess said give me a second and never got back to us. We waited for about 20 minutes which wasn't bad, but getting to the table, it was surrounded by trash(see photo). About 5 minutes after getting our menus, the waiter said I'll be right back to take your order, didn't return until 10 minutes after. We ordered the takoyaki, rainbow roll, white crunchy roll, spider roll, and got the free sweet potato tempura. The order didn't take too long to come out, which made me more optimistic, but after my second piece of the rainbow roll, I felt something hard in my mouth and spit out a fish scale-like object (see photo). On top of that, the waiter checked on us only once. The food wasn't bad, minus the fish scale, but the service was really not up to par.

Yelp
BYOB and the most beautiful, practical menu you'll ever see-- those are the two most important things to note about this place! My boyfriend and I stopped by on a Saturday night after making a reservation just an hour before. This place gets PACKED and there is no surprise why! The menu has high resolution pictures of almost all of their rolls. I didn't know how helpful that would be until I had a look! Their rolls are unique (READ: vegetarian options included!) and nothing short of delicious. If you bring wine (which you should...) the servers provide you with a complimentary ice bucket. I also absolutely loved that this restaurant uses reusable chopsticks. Most sushi places use cheap wooden sticks and create unnecessary waste, but here they're a step above. Thank you for being eco friendly!
google avatar

Liu G.

Yelp
Best sushi, amazing quality, amazing owners- wish I could return more! Sushi is rolled in front of you, the place is locally owned (the owners are very involved!) BYOB and they provide an ice bucket, good prices, and service. Brought a picky eater here and he loved it . There are many overpriced fake sushi places in Chicago and this is not one of them. The quality- can't say enough good things.
google avatar

Damian P.

Yelp
Decided to check out this spot and very glad we did. Its BYOB and that make fit perfect. The portions are nice and the quality is definitely a plus when it comes to my taste palate. So we got here on a rainy night, no reservations of course because it was last minute to meet up with some friends. But there we were and were quickly given a choice of seating. You know we had to pick the window seat! Of course I jokingly referred to it as Peabo's Pet shop and us on display like Magilla Gorilla. (Unless you're a 70's child you probably wont get the reference but Google it). I am so glad that we did get to sit here because as people watchers, we were able to watch people in the rain, with umbrellas and just was a good experience. We quickly gave the waitress (who was so kind) our wine and she brought us back a wine cooler with ice. I like that, as many establishments do not do this and just bring you ice. She also provided us wine openers which was nice also. Now getting back to the sushi, the dragon maki roll was one of my favorites and gave you a sense of freshness. The perfect amount of unagi and spicy mayo. I personally thought it to be one of the best ones I've eaten ever, and that says a lot since I am a sushi snob (You don't know my life, don't judge me, haha). Oh and the eel sauce that was part of it was amazing! I know it sounds complicated, but truly its not, and just super tasty. Enough of the roll for sharing, but why share this one? I also hooked my friends to edamame which of course they never tried, guess who is hooked now? For an appetizer its the perfect start to a fun filled evening. Again the atmosphere is beautiful and if it were warmer outside, of course the patio is a plus. This time around we couldn't use it but trust me I will be utilizing it once the weather permits in a few months. Ahhhh Chicago, your weather kills me but you gotta love it. At least once in your lifetime should one try sushi and other items they are not used to. We decided to do the Russian roulette of tasting and it certainly paid off. Its fun when you can try various items and not fear because someone in your group will eat what you don't like. But that wasn't the case this night, we ate, drank and just had the best time reminiscing of old times. That is what a good restaurant experience should offer. The atmosphere to me really makes or breaks a place and I am so glad that this night was one of the better ones. I highly encourage those who need wine or beer with their meal to BYOB and just enjoy the food. After all, not all restaurants offer that option!

Yelp
Amazing birthday experience for my husband. Each bite was super tasty and the service was the best I've experienced in a long time. Def make sure you do a reservation especially with Covid times.
google avatar

Matt M.

Yelp
Seadog has been our local sushi spot for a few years, but no more. The sushi is pretty good, but the service (particularly the delivery service) is poor. We order direct on their website and they consistently mess up our order. We have had issues with them not including items in our order as well as failing to deliver the order on time or at all. Very poor service.
google avatar

Katrina P.

Yelp
SO IMPRESSED with this BYOB sushi spot! Definitely one of the best in the city. I LOVED the Halloween appetizer! The nigiri was to die for too! Alive been craving it since I was there last week! Can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Clara S.

Yelp
Service is quick, spot is quaint, and byob without a corkage fee is a huge plus. The rolls are average sized and pretty saucey with lots of rice. The menu with pictures on it is pretty helpful though- probably the most extravagant sushi menu I've seen yet. We came here after discovering Yuzu would be too long of a wait and that Yuzu now charges a hefty corkage fee.... We ordered some fancy fusion rolls, and all were very filling because of the fried stuff and rice.
google avatar

McClory S.

Yelp
Service was slow - That's why I put the medium review. They were severely understaffed, and our dinner lasted a few hours. Quality of food was fantastic and had a great patio space. BYOB
google avatar

Mikayla D.

Yelp
My fiancé and I love a good date night! So when we wanted to go to dinner the other day we tried to find a place that checked all of our boxes - Sushi (check!), BYOB (check!), patio seating (check!). You cant go wrong with Seadog Sushi! They are taking the pandemic seriously, have helpful servers, and delicious AND affordable food. What more could you want?! We ordered the carpaccio to start and it was great! fresh hamachi with a hint of lime had us craving more. We put in an order for gyoza that was just lightly fried enough. For dinner we shared the following 4 rolls: Lover, spicy tuna (x2), and midnight sundae. Our favorite was the lover roll! We left feeling comfortable and satisfied. We'll definitely be returning.
google avatar

Aleksandra P.

Yelp
This place is fantastic. I wasn't sure what to expect but the quality is top notch and the prices are just right for the area. We got miso soup, edemame, and the lover, spicy tuna, fresh salmon, and the seamonster rolls. All of them were delicious. To top it off, the server was attentive and kind. Can't wait to come back.

Yelp
There are several sushi spots near the Division blue line stop and I do believe I've tried most of them. I can say that Seadog is easily my favorite out of the bunch! The environment inside is very chill. I love how it's dimly lit and how you can kinda disappear into your own world while you're in there. They also have a huge patio out back, which is where I always opt to sit as long as the weather is nice. The staff is always friendly but there have been a few instances where I felt like I was waiting it bit longer than I should. Usually after I get my water and I want to order or when I'm waiting for my bill. Regardless the food makes up for that! Lately they've had a great check-in offer for an appetizer, Sweet potato tempura I believe. It comes with a delicious dipping sauce, which my table likes to hold onto during our meal to use on other things. I think this is a wonderful way to start your meal. I also like to get things started with some spicy miso soup or gyoza. Both are fantastic here at Seadog! In terms of rolls I've had the Dragon, the Little Sea Monster, and the Volcano. I enjoy all of them! I've tried others via friend's plates but I can't remember the name of them. Needless to say, everything I've had here is great! Whether your hungry for food to go or want to go sit down somewhere to relax with friends, you can do it here at Seadog! Oh yeah -- it's also BYOB so feel free to grab a bottle of wine before you walk over. That's just the icing on the cake!

Yelp
The only reason I am not giving this 5 stars is because the chicken teriyaki, which was literally a piece of chicken half cup of white rice and a piece of asparagus. Not worth even close to $13. I would give that 1 star. Anyway, the sushi here is sooooooo good. I have gotten both delivery and went to the restaurant and it never disappoints.

Yelp
We ordered delivery via UberEats from here. All the items were well-packed and arrived in good condition. The salad and edamame were fine. The rolls were the standout, of course. The secret garden and spicy Alaska king crab were the best. We also particularly liked the scallop roll. The sea monster roll was good, but the pieces were just too big for me to actually enjoy. Overall, a great selection of rolls and all were good.

Yelp
I was really happy with my experience here and wished I lived nearby so I can come back. They have a really exciting menu and creative vegetarian rolls. I got the chirashi which I was happy with. Very good variety and high quality fish, particularly high quality tuna. For fish roe nigiri, they offer the option of adding a quail egg yolk. I have a soft spot for places that do this because it's one of my favorite things to eat! I also tried the uni shooters which is uni (sea urchin), quail egg yolk, masago, and some kind of soy-yuzu dressing served in a shot glass. I really enjoyed the flavor, but for me it wasn't a shooter because it was a little too much to down in one gulp (so you don't get to enjoy all the flavors together). Still very good though. A bit salty.

Yelp
I've ordered sea dog sushi several times before and it's been great. I recommended it for a dinner with 4 friends and was left embarrassed and disappointed by my recommendation. We ordered $122 of food (before tip), ordering 5 rolls, 4 appetizers and one noodle dish to share between us. The meal was delivered and we were missing our gyoza. After opening the bags, we noticed that the spider roll only had 4 pieces in it. The veggie tempura was burnt to a crisp, the beef yakisoba had small dry pieces of beef and the noodles had no taste. The miso soup tasted like water. The crunchy spicy tuna tasted like trash, old fish. The rest of the rolls were so bad that we could only eat one (little monster - was still good), and the edamame was ordered (missing salt). Overall I'm extremely disappointed and will not be ordering here again.

Yelp
WOW! We heard good things but this was better than expected. For the location, this couldn't be better. Once you get on the other side of Ashland, I always kind of wonder about the places, but this was top notch. We called ahead and weren't able to make a reservation, but got there around 7:30 with 6 people and were seated right away outside on the super cute patio. The menu is kind of strange because they have huge glossy photos of everything, but it actually ended up helping a lot. I've never used a menu like that and actually liked the food before haha. But we got seaweed salad for the table and a bunch of rolls. Everyone enjoyed everything. It's byob, so bring wine! Definitely will go back here again sometime soon.
