Good fresh seafood ‼️ I ordered the jumbo shrimp platter with a side of cabbage. The fries were seasoned well and but the cabbage was just ok.

So, I love me some fish! I was craving fish today and decided to give Seafood Shanty a visit since I was in the area. I had not been in quite some time, so I was not sure what to expect. Guys, I am horrible with taking pictures, but the fish smelled so delightful I had to try a piece while driving 😉. I was quite satisfied that the fish (trout) was very fresh, not overly seasoned or salty, and very delicious. I ordered the shrimp and fish platter for $15.99, which included 3 pieces of decent size filets, I believe it has 5 or 6 pieces of medium-sized shrimp, fries, and coleslaw. The fries were good, and the coleslaw was just okay. The customer service was friendly, and my food was served with smiles and thank yous. Needles to say I will be back for fish Friday and will take pictures!

Google
They always have the best jumbo shrimp cooked to order, super fresh, and the family own entrepreneurship brings a lovely carry out atmosphere.

Google
I don't have pics because I always forget. This place reminds me of fresh fish from back in the day...always hot and cooked to order. The service is always pleasant and the wait is not long. Thanks for providing good food and service!❤️

Yelp
One of our seafood go-too places for seafood. As a carry out seafood is fresh served hot and really filling.

Yelp
SWAI IS NOT CATFISH! I ordered catfish nuggets and received swai nuggets. I called the owner and he said it was swai catfish. Please be careful and know what you are eating. Their food is delicious, but some items need to be labeled correctly. See the reference below regarding swai. Previously, swai imported into the US was called Asian catfish. In 2003, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) passed a law that only fish in the Ictaluridae family, which includes American catfish but not swai, can be labeled or advertised as catfish (4). Yelp
The food was horrible. I can recall when this place first opened and the food used to be hot and fresh. We grabbed a late lunch and I purchased the seafood sampler with whiting. My fried scallops were watery and mushy. The fried whiting was sub par. The clams tasted stale and I substituted onion rings for French fries. They onion rings were just okay. The fried shrimp was the only thing that i ate since everything else was very suspect. I will never go back there again. The service was just okay, no frills and just your average carry out customer service. This carry out has no ambience and needs to step up its game. There are so many more good seafood spots to patron so don't spend your money here.

Yelp
I visited here on a Saturday evening around 5:30p. I had the trout dinner which came with six pieces of trout, fries, Cole slaw, and a roll. The fish and fries were fried to order and came out fresh in 10 mins. The fish was fried perfectly and was seasoned amazingly. The tarter sauce was good as well! Service was friendly. I'll be back when I have a taste for fried fish!

Yelp
This one of our favorite, neighborhood Carryout a. Love their seafood platter with shrimp, clams and scallops. The fish is always fried to perfection. The portions are generous.

Yelp
Fast, fresh and delicious. I would recommend to people that enjoy seafood. Only drawback is there is no dine-in

Yelp
I haven't been to this place in years. Now I remember why. The fried shrimp tasted like cardboard! Absolutely no seasoning and completely over cooked. I was so disappointed because I really wanted a local establishment that had good fried shrimp...pitty.

Yelp
I must admit a bit of trepidation in coming here based on other previous Yelp reviews. Not sure how I even ended up taking the plunge except that I occasionally patronize the Thai restaurant a few storefronts down and periodically glance at this place - since they seem to stay busy. In any case, I can't attest to the practices of previous management, cleanliness....or anything else from years past or other Yelpers' experiences. I wasn't eating here then. I've been here 6-10 times over a period of a little less than a year and you know what? The fish is good! Really good. Clean. No old grease or old fish taste. I've eaten the fried whiting and the fried trout.. I typically (lately) exclusively get the fried flounder lunch portion which consists of two large pieces of filet, crinkle cut fries, two pieces of bread, hot sauce and tartar (if you want). Fish is perfectly cooked. Light and delicate. Not overly breaded. Moist & tender. $6.99 + tax.... Knowing how expensive flounder can be in many venues, this is a sizeable deal especially for the money. You can add another piece of flounder for the "dinner portion" but it's not worth the extra $4, frankly. The fries are frozen and forgettable but really good HOT. I look at the floor, under the fryer and drink cooler for any obvious health code violation filth other Yelpers had me paranoid about and have yet to spot any. I still look everytime though. Trust & Believe I do. A good fried fish carryout is always appealing to me when I'm in the mood for relatively guilt-free fast food and wanna avoid the burger boyz or my fried chicken friends. They carry the usuals in an assortment of seafood including shrimp (minimal breading, deveined top & bottom) and fried oysters. I'm a bit miffed that they don't sell Snapper though, but realistically....that price point wouldn't comport with their menu continuity. I'm sure it would be good if they sold it though. Strip mall parking is readily available. They have no indoor seating but rather a picnic table sits outside and call in is advisable to cut down on your wait. The owner, Danny, and his GM Hugh, are pleasant to deal with and seem to care a lot about their business. My multiple experiences rate a little over a 4.

Yelp
Not a big fan of this restaurant. I have only ordered from this place once and it was enough to let me know that I don't want to return. They were out of perch so I ordered a whiting fillet plate with fried oysters. The fish was very thin and the oysters were very small for my liking. The plate also came with coleslaw which I didn't care for and fries which were not cooked to my liking. The price of the plate was around 14-15 dollars and overall I did not like the food.

Yelp
Consistently good food. I get the fried whiting and it's very good every time. The owners are kind and helpful.

Yelp
First time customer. So many fish choices at this place! I ordered 1/2 pound of steamed shrimp and fried clams, both delicious. About a 15 minute wait to cook. Plenty of free parking. Small shopping strip. Close to the 495 Beltway. I will return!

Yelp
Great fresh-tasting seafood, with large portions. Good value overall. Excellent tartar sauce! I have been here twice and will come back. This time I had clam strips, and my friend had fried shrimp. Both excellent!

Yelp
This is by far the worst seafood place I've ever eaten at. Its a carry-out type of place but the smell alone is so overwhelming you wouldn't want to spend more than 10 seconds in there. The smell of fish fills the entire room and gets into your clothes so you come out smelling like a fried piece of fish. The food itself is not very good either. The scallops are rubbery and the fish is extremely salty. You can still taste the ocean on the fish when you eat it. Won't be paying this place another visit... EVER!

Yelp
She burnt my crab cake and still served it to me. I explained to her it was burnt. It was not even brown. She said everybody likes it. She kept telling me reasons why it wasn't. I told her I didnt want it. Instead of her making it right she asked if I wanted my money! I got my money and will not be back

Yelp
It used to be a reliable place to get some fried fish. But, since the place has been under new ownership in 2015. This place sucks @$$! On my last visit, not only did the fish look old and nasty, but the cook had a nasty attitude as well! I'll never return here. You have been warned.

Andrew H.

Yelp
I have eaten here for many years and found the food to be pretty good. However recently (2016) quality has really taken a nose dive. Firstly, they use liquid shortening to fry their food; this is the absolute worse cooking oil anyone could use health wise. The fryers are old and bear marks of not being cleaned in a very long time. In general the place looks unsanitary. What prompted me to write this review however, was that on two occasions recently, I received fried shrimp that were definitely spoiled. The odor emanating from the shrimp was so strong (even after frying) that I had to discard them in a public trash unit and not my house. Having food that may not be tasty is a downer but having food that could harm you health wise is down right dangerous. I will not eat here again.

Yelp
How in the world can that other reviewer give it one 1 star. Fish and chips is the way to go for Seafood Shanty. It's super good. Outside of that in reality the BEST is their tartar sauce...its is the best tartar sauce I have ever had...even to this day and im in my 30's and a foodie. The Tartarsauce here is spot ON. The fish and chips are good too. Get the whiting meal with tarter sauce and you wont be disappointed. I cannot vouch for anything else. If ever you are in the mood for fish and chips this is the place to go. 15 min. from DC. 15 min. from NoVa and 15 min. from Waldorf.

Yelp
Seafood Shanty is my favorite local seafood restaurant in the Fort Washington area! They have the best seasonings and their fish and seafood are full sized portions...not skimpy like some places. I've been eating here for over 10 years and recommend them to my family and neighbors!

Yelp
Clearly the California girl wouldn't know good seafood if it hit her in the face. ALL of the good seafood joints smell kind of a bit on the fishy side! Its just how it is. I really like this place. Its owned by a nice family and they work SO VERY hard in this restaurant. They give very nice size portions too. Please ignore the 1 star rating. True seafood lovers know the deal. This place is mobbed on Friday evenings when local people get off work and just want some good old fashioned seafood.
