Yelp
I must admit a bit of trepidation in coming here based on other previous Yelp reviews. Not sure how I even ended up taking the plunge except that I occasionally patronize the Thai restaurant a few storefronts down and periodically glance at this place - since they seem to stay busy.
In any case, I can't attest to the practices of previous management, cleanliness....or anything else from years past or other Yelpers' experiences. I wasn't eating here then.
I've been here 6-10 times over a period of a little less than a year and you know what? The fish is good! Really good. Clean. No old grease or old fish taste.
I've eaten the fried whiting and the fried trout..
I typically (lately) exclusively get the fried flounder lunch portion which consists of two large pieces of filet, crinkle cut fries, two pieces of bread, hot sauce and tartar (if you want). Fish is perfectly cooked. Light and delicate. Not overly breaded. Moist & tender.
$6.99 + tax....
Knowing how expensive flounder can be in many venues, this is a sizeable deal especially for the money. You can add another piece of flounder for the "dinner portion" but it's not worth the extra $4, frankly. The fries are frozen and forgettable but really good HOT. I look at the floor, under the fryer and drink cooler for any obvious health code violation filth other Yelpers had me paranoid about and have yet to spot any.
I still look everytime though. Trust & Believe I do.
A good fried fish carryout is always appealing to me when I'm in the mood for relatively guilt-free fast food and wanna avoid the burger boyz or my fried chicken friends. They carry the usuals in an assortment of seafood including shrimp (minimal breading, deveined top & bottom) and fried oysters. I'm a bit miffed that they don't sell Snapper though, but realistically....that price point wouldn't comport with their menu continuity. I'm sure it would be good if they sold it though. Strip mall parking is readily available. They have no indoor seating but rather a picnic table sits outside and call in is advisable to cut down on your wait. The owner, Danny, and his GM Hugh, are pleasant to deal with and seem to care a lot about their business.
My multiple experiences rate a little over a 4.
