In our experience, the hotel was a nice and big hotel, but a few inconsistencies from staff, silly hotel policies and attitudes of staff let it down.|To start with the positive, prior to our stay we had let the hotel know we were celebrating a 10 year anniversary. The receptionist was very welcoming, congratulating us, and he even upgraded our room and decorated the bed with balloons and rose petals, which was really nice touch. This staff member was probably the only one that went out of his way and was accommodating for the whole trip.|Now onto the negatives… It felt like there was a different rule each day and staff were just making things up as they go along. Firstly, the inconsistencies with the drink prices at the pool bar (this was the bar above cheeky monkey). My partner and I had the same drink order each time and we would take it in turns to get rounds. On the first day, the first round I got was 11 euros, then my partners was 12 euros (for the exact same drinks) then for me it was 11 euros again. The next day, the same thing, we ordered the exact same drinks and throughout the day the price kept changing. I had ordered the drinks at one point for 11 euros then an hour later got charged 12 euros. Obviously, it’s only 1 euro so it’s not a big deal but the inconsistency was just odd. When I mentioned it to the bartender, he just slammed the receipt down and said ‘that’s the price’. When I tried to explain again, he said maybe you got another drink.. Obviously, I knew I hadn’t.|Towards the end of the holiday, at the same bar, I had gone up three times and asked for just a glass of tap water, sometimes I got two glasses, one for my partner as well. Later on, that same day (same server), my partner goes up to the bar to get us both a glass of tap water. He got told that a glass of tap water is for all inclusive guests only and tried to charge him for bottled water, which he refused and asked for the tap water as we had been served that all day. I’m not sure whether the hotel staff are just discriminative or if they just apply the hotel policies when and as they feel like it..|As well, we both had a bottle of water we liked to keep in our rooms. The first morning we went to fill up this bottle with water at the water machine in the breakfast buffet area. Staff ran up to my partner and told him he is not allowed to fill his bottle up as it is against hotel policy and we must buy bottled water from the café, although, we were allowed to fill a normal cup up with water to have sat at the table. I appreciate this is not the staff members fault as they are just following the hotel policy, however, this just feels really pedantic and like the hotel are just trying to get as much money out of you as they can, therefore not really valuing the guest.|Another issue was the lack of pool bar snacks the restaurant offered. From my experience with most hotels, the bar by the pool will often have a snack menu, perhaps serving toasties, sandwiches, salads, chips, pizzas, just light snacks which you can have by the pool. This was not an option. On the first day we walked around the hotel for ages trying to find somewhere. We went to the guest experience counter where they recommended the restaurants below the pools (such as cheeky monkey and the Italian restaurant). We explained the food offered in these sit-down restaurants are main meals and more suitable for dinner, whereas we just wanted something light for by the pool. We then got recommended to go to the café in the lobby, which was extremely limited for options and did not taste great. This was something I struggled with in the day as I prefer a light snack for lunch by the pool rather than a big lunch, but this just wasn’t an option provided by the hotel. It’s a shame the bar above cheeky monkey did not offer lighter lunch options for by the pool. Another day we also went to the Minoa restaurant, as we noticed there were two menus outside the restaurant (one we liked the look of and one we did not). We therefore queued up at the bar to check with the staff what menu it is for dinner as we wanted to check the menu before we arrived later. The staff just pointed to the menus and said ‘menus over there’. I felt like there was a lot of times I was constantly having to repeat or explain myself, with staff often not being very accommodating.|Lastly, when we arrived, our hotel room was extremely hot. The aircon in the room was locked at a set temperature and we were unable to change it. The receptionist said they have changed the temperature of our room from their phone, but it still appeared locked and was extremely hot in the room. We therefore went back to reception and they had told us someone will come to our room to look. Not long after, we got a phone call in our room from reception saying that someone will come to our room as soon as possible. 2.5 hours later and no one had arrived, and at this point we had to go out in the evening due to having a restaurant reservation. When we came back to the room later, it was a lot cooler so it had appeared someone had fixed the issue, but the communication and us having to consistently chase them was frustrating.|Overall, it is a nice hotel, very modern and decorated nicely, however, the attitudes of staff and some hotel policies let it down, along with the lack of lunch options, therefore I don’t think I would say at this hotel again or recommend it.
