This was our third stay at Seashells Scarborough, however our last visit was around five years ago and unfortunately the standard has declined.
The apartment was in very poor condition and clearly in need of renovation. The carpet was heavily stained throughout and there was a strong musty smell, so we had to keep doors and windows open. Within minutes of arriving, my daughter — who has allergies to dust and mould — began sneezing and developed a runny nose, requiring antihistamines.
I raised this with the manager and was told the apartment was independently owned. While I understand this, the booking was made under the Seashells name and guests should still expect a consistent 4-star standard. We were also told some renovated apartments are listed through Airbnb, which was disappointing given the price paid. This apartment felt closer to a 2-star standard at best.
Other issues included a non-functional sliding door, peeling outdoor furniture, a musty couch, and one pool appearing cloudy.
The location is excellent, but unfortunately the condition of the apartment let the stay down.
