Seawall Campground

Stayed at Seawall for three nights while in the park recently. Check in was very easy and the rangers were helpful in explaining the campground rules. My site was in the A-loop and was very well maintained. Bathrooms and water were conveniently located to the camp sites and were well kept. It is a bit of a distance from the Bar Harbor side of the park and driving through the Southwest Harbor is slower speeds, but the traffic through was minimal. Exploring the towns on this end was a good experience as they were not as busy as the other side. Even considering that most of my park activities required driving to the other side, I still thoroughly enjoyed staying here.

Seawall Campground is an official national park campground for Acadia, but it’s a good 20-40 minute drive from the main attractions of the park (depending on where you’re going). The only spot it’s close to is the Bass Harbor Lighthouse. It’s dog friendly and has water and bathrooms, but no showers. If you’re bringing a dog, you can sign them up for the Bark Ranger program here! (Metal tags available at the Hull Cove Visitor Center gift shop.)

Absolutely beautiful! Each side had ample room to sit and enjoy. The trees throughout the camp made it private where you sat. On top of that, everything, even the bathrooms!, was well kept and spotless clean! We can't wait to go back!

By far our favorite campground in Acadia. Campsites are clean and spacious. Bathrooms were clean and accessible. But the location is everything. It has close proximity to southern harbors and a short drive from the main park. Amazing picnic area just steps from the campground. Overall it makes the top of our list for recommended campgrounds.

While this is the quiet side of the island, I feel there are nicer campgrounds with the same ambiance for the same price. This is about 30 minutes from the more popular Acadia attractions, so we completed the quiet side in 2 days and found ourselves driving 30-60 minutes one way to get to the other attractions. We were super excited about this trip but a lot of factors made us leave early. We had a group of 8 split between two sites. It states you can have two tents at each site, park one car, and are equipped with fire rings and picnic tables. The one site had just enough room to do so. The second site was too small to fit two tents and safety light a fire, so we had to go to the site next door for a fire to keep 8 people warm and cook food for 8. There was no way to have two tents, the fire, a picnic table, and park…check the sites carefully I did and it still wasn’t accurate enough. We chose our loop/sites purposely for the characteristics, including flushing toilets and sinks. Upon arrival we were informed that the bathrooms in our loop were being renovated so we had porta-pots throughout the loop…so no flushing toilets or sinks, which we needed. The other loop wasn’t walkable enough to have 8 people walk back and forth, especially in a rush. Luckily (or unluckily for us) the toilet was right out front of our site…convenient-ish for 8 people but our part of the loop ended up being the most crowded so there were 14 people using one toilet that doesn’t flush. We checked in Saturday, by Monday our site stunk horribly, we ended up leaving early on Tuesday but it still stunk and had not been dumped. It’s also just disgusting to have to see that and sit in that smell. I do want to note that the park staff checked the toilets frequently, stocked them, wiped them down, and they were clean, but not emptied. The park staff were super friendly and great, this was just not a good trip for us overall…couldn’t start a fire because of rain two days and were freezing, rained so hard that all 4 tents took on water, gear inside, clothing, essentials, etc were soaked or destroyed (on two different days); a child got sick for two days, sprayed tents and ourselves constantly but still found ticks inside our bags of fresh, unused clothes, etc. It was cool to hear the buoys dinging on the water.

Everything was great except the design of the restrooms. Who puts transparent windows with a restroom stall? Also operate it to an open position? I was walking around the facility towards the women's restroom when i saw a young guy on his tip toe looking through a window, later realized the window looked into a toilet stall.

A great spot in what feels like a quieter area away from the park's crowds. Tent camping plots are simple but sufficient, featuring a picnic bench and fire pit. Plenty of tree cover from any coastal winds and rains. Bathroom facilities are well kept. Plenty of parking available, though some sites have a little walk from the carpark. Loads of deer around!

Very quiet and clean. You can even hear the ocean at night. The restrooms are amazingly clean, trash bins available, and spigots for water. We were by the RVs in the back of area D and you can sometimes hear their generators. But overall, this is a great campsite if you don’t mind the 30 min drive back to black woods and the rest of the park.

Our group booked a group campsite (Group Camping area - past C loop) which was perfect for our large group. This campground is a little farther to the main Arcadia attractions (~30 min drive). Bring cash to buy firewood on the way to the campgrounds - sold by locals along the road. The rangers at the campground's entrance were super helpful. Bathrooms were super clean, and there was a faucet with potable water near our campsites. There are no showers if that's what you want but these were by far some of the cleanest bathrooms we've seen in a campsite near a national park. Our group campsite came with a few picnic tables and firepit grills. There was an apple tree in our site and a very cute porcupine eating the apples in the tree at night.

Amazing. Granted, it did rain for the first 36 hours of our trip. But that isn't Acadia's fault. And once that let up-- WOW. The Seawall being right there (a few minutes bike or walk) is an incredible benefit of this site. My husband is an amateur astronomer and he set his telescope up at the Seawall. Even with just our eyes, we could see the Milky Way. I've never seen stars like that. Bathrooms are very very clean, which is impressive. There are no showers but there is electricity and running water. Up the road a mile there are paid showers, which my husband reports are also "clean enough" and had hot water.

Our campground was private, clean, and spacious. Bathrooms were clean but I do wish there were showers. That would really make a difference.

we were in C5 with our rv. it's a parking spot with a firepit grill and a picnic table. no full elec and no water hook up. you'll hear lots of generators buzzing. not much privacy, youll be able to see your neighbors. youll be walking distance to the picnic area across the street and also to seawall trail hike. both absolutely gorgeous. we were also able to walk to a lobster restaurant, 2 miles away.

We spent four nights at this campgrounds a few weeks back for our summer vacation. This was our first time visiting Acadia and staying at these grounds, so we didn't know what to expect. We ended up enjoying our stay, but a few things irked us while we were here. Here are some of the positive aspects; 1. We ended up staying at site D68 which was in the "walk-in" camp loop. Our site was located near the parking area and bathrooms unlike other in the loop. This was great because we didn't need to haul all of our items far and the bathrooms were close. 2. The walk to the ocean was short and the views were incredible. 3. The overall camping experience was great and it was nice to have a fire ring as well as a grill. Here are some of the negative aspects; 1. While checking in I stood in line for about ten minutes but got cut by an entitled couple who walked in and started making the counter their home. The ranger didn't seem to care and didn't apologize after having me wait for another ten minutes (of course they had a ton of questions.) We also never saw a ranger unless they were at the check-in office. 2. I love children and have never had an issue with sharing campgrounds with younger people, but camping here made me mad. The children surrounding our campsite cried or yelled until 10/11pm and were back at it by 6:30/7am. 3. At one point since our camp site was near the parking lot random campers decided to walk through our site instead of going around. Talk about rude when you are trying to enjoy your campfire. Also, one night a car alarm went off and the owner never shut it off because his site must have been so far into the woods that he didn't hear it. We did though. These issues aside, we would stay here again but may try the other Acadia site on our next visit. Also final tip, if staying here buy wood before you come. We bought some from a few shacks along the road and a few of them wouldn't burn regardless of what we did. This made our camp fire a smoke machine.

Very nice campground on the "Quietside" of Mount Desert Island. If you want to be near most of the attractions of Arcadia park, or close to Bar Harbor, this is not the place for you as it is about a 20-30 min drive. I personally loved the drive and enjoyed being away from the crowds. Unfortunately our walk-up campsite on D-Loop (D34) was very close to our neighbors, and that was a little bit of a bummer for me. Neighbors here, neighbors there, neighbors everywhere. It seems from reading other peoples' reviews there are more private campsites, so perhaps I would consider staying here again but on a different loop. I also may be spoiled and used to hiking camping, perhaps this is normal for car camping. Not having cars pull into each site was nice, but the tree coverage was nonexistent between camping sites. This place would definitely be great for groups. Park rangers were very friendly, and the bathrooms were fantastic, even if I could hear the occasional flush of a toilet from my campsite. The ocean is right across the road from the entrance from the campgrounds, but I never heard it from inside the grounds. Very dog friendly campgrounds with clean, respectful campers. Showering up the road was easy (open from 8AM-8PM, $1 for 2 mins) and the store with the showers had lots of things for sale like bug spray at reasonable prices. Fire wood was easy to buy from road side stands for $2-3 bucks depending on the stand. Southwest Harbor is a cutie town a very short drive away with one or two restaurants, a fancy supermarket, and a great bar (The Upper Deck). A little closer to camp you can get fantastic pop overs in the morning at Common Grounds and phenomenal lobster rolls at Sawyer's Lobster Pound. A llitle further up the road past the main strip of Southwest Harbor there is a supermarket (IGA) and gas station. Overall great location, just not much campsite privacy on D loop.

Great campground. Highly recommended! We stayed there for a long weekend at the end of July! Things we likes: -the wooden paths were very easy to follow in the walk in sites and it was really nice to not have cars right next to your tent - the low key vibe and quiet atmosphere despite it being high season - it's cheap!! 12/a night - clean bathrooms -a wheel borrow available to get your stuff to the site initially -friendly park rangers! -eccentric camp store just outside the campground with hot showers! -the rocky beach beach across from the campground for star gazing! Things we didn't like: -no hand soap in the bathroom- there is running water and hand sanitizer but no soap, that doesn't make sense to me - you are supposed to wash your dishes at the campsite however we didn't being a tub to wash with and they don't tell you this so plan ahead with your cookware and dish washing options. All in all I wish I was still there and not writing this on the way home:)

First time on Mount Desert Island and not the last, we had an amazing time and the Seawall Campground is wonderfully AWAY from the touristic craze, sure you have to drive 45mins to Sandy Beach but there's no bus full of people at Echo lake which is only 10 minutes away from Seawall. Walk-in sites will all be reservable by 2012, for the rest of the summer, Stop by Thompson Island's park outpost and you can make a 1h reservation by the time you get there, no wait. Like others have said, great park, awesome campsite, no showers, not much else to say. I did notice that every morning the rangers would collect the unused wood from empty sites and left it by the trash container for people to use for free. Beside, $1,50, $2 wood bundles by the road supports local economy. See my other Mount Desert Island list for great place to visit in the area.

I stayed here for two nights over Labor Day weekend and I really enjoyed this campground. My biggest advice would be to really look at the map they have on the reservation website before you pick your site. It's nicer to have your site backup to woods and if you bring a lot of stuff to car camp, just be warned you will have to walk to your site with all of your gear! We were in loop D, which is the loop with the most sites but it was still relatively quiet. The campsites are somewhat close to each other, but they are separated. They only allow two tents and a max of 6 campers per campsite. Keep this in mind if you are going with a group. The campsite had a large fire ring with a grill grate and they allowed one arm-full of free (green) firewood per campsite, per night which was a nice bonus. The paths around the sites are nicely mulched. The bathrooms were clean and the trash was picked up regularly. There is an area for overflow parking and it's a short walk to the water! I would definitely stay here again.

Campground was very clean and quiet. Bathrooms were also surprisingly clean! Park rangers, esp Joe, were very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The island explorer was very convenient taking us to bar harbor and the carriage roads. It was nice to sit back relax and not have to worry about driving and parking downtown.

For camping in Acadia, this is the spot! This beautiful campground is nestled in the woods, only a few steps from the ocean. The staff are super friendly and welcoming, and even the ranger who had to come to tell our group to keep it down (we were being, ahem, super loud) was really nice about it. Each site accommodates 2 tents, and has a picnic table and fire pit, with a gravel surface. (Ouch-- bring your thermarest!) There are bathrooms here that are disturbingly clean for a campsite. Bring your own soap. No showers, but you can pay for some down the street if you want. You can also buy ice, firewood, etc in a few different small markets within a few miles of the campground. There is a grocery store about a 10 minute drive away as well-- that even sold veggie dogs and veggie burgers!! W00t!! You'll find over 200 camping spots for walk-up, drive-up, or RVs. Cost is $14 for walk-up, or $20 for drive-ups spots, per night. Well worth it! Quiet hours are 10pm and 7am, though we failed miserably at that one. (We managed to nearly kill a keg between 8 people in 2 days. Our secret? One gallon at a time... HANGOVER!!!) Get your behind to Acadia. It's gorgeous, and worth the long 5 hour drive from Boston.

Quiet, clean, inexpensive, awesome! Loved the walk-up sites. I'm used to the drive-up sites where you park right next to your tent, but this layout was fun. We felt more like we were in the middle of the woods - we could only see the campfires from a couple other sites, and we couldn't see the road at all. We came without a reservation - in the middle of August - and called the camp office from Bar Harbor on Sunday night to see if they had any spot. They had ONE spot open, which they agreed to hold for us for an hour, and we booked it over there in 30 minutes. Got the spot, which was right on top of the road and the restroom - last choice spot! Then we went to the office in the morning and requested a site change, and within 30 minutes they'd moved us to one of the nicest and most secluded spots in the place. Awesome! We didn't quite realize how lucky we'd gotten until we saw the huge lines of vehicles out front every morning... It's a good 30 minute drive to Bar Harbor and the park loop, but it's totally worth staying on this side of the island for several reasons: 1. Avoid the hordes of tourists - even in the peak of summer, it was peaceful here. 2. At night, you can walk across the street to the Seawall picnic area and look at the stars from the beach. Highly recommended!! It's really dark and on a clear day you can see the Milky Way! The 2 other nature walks in this area are great, too. 3. In the morning, before you drive to the east side of the island, you can visit the Common Good Soup Kitchen just outside the campground and start your day with fresh popovers, jam, and coffee. No waiting. FREE - they just ask you to make a donation to their program. (We donated a ton.) After being fortified with a couple of popovers and filling up your coffee mug, the drive to the other side of the island is a breeze. Would be worth it to reserve online in advance, which is probably what we will do if I can go back here next summer.

This has been my second time in Acadia, last year we stayed at Blackwoods campground in a drive in site, it was ok. except the sites felt a bit closer and a lot of noise. Now Seawall I enjoyed greatly. We stayed at a 300 ft walkin and had no problem making reservations online a month in advance. When you arrive you are assigned your spot and you drive in, and fine your loop. Everything is marked my your Letter Loop and then your number lot, and you park generally around where your number is. Finding a parking spot was not difficult. Showers are 5 minutes away at a camping store with very nice people at the desk, and 4 quarters gets you 3 minutes of shower times. Ive found 2 bucks does the job. Showers are much nicer in my opinion than the showers located near blackwoods. Im more of a plan in advance type person so I don't run into problems so I don't know too much about waitin gin line, my suggestion would be if possible make reservations. Check in time is 12, and check out is 10. At night you can hear the ocean and plenty of wildlife. Definitely suggest keeping a lock on your cooler (bungee cord) and anything else locked away otherwise the raccoons will definitely find a way at it.

Love the deep woods setting of this campground and all the rules that come with it, but no shower and the close proximity of other sites really brought this experience down a bit. Also the fact that we couldn't do dish washing at the shower block or collect dry wood from the property, even though there was a ton. Great location away from the tourists of Bar Harbor, near Wonderpools, but could be improved.

Yes, Blackwoods is closer to Bar Harbor, but if you're looking for a peaceful, beautiful spot to hang your hat for a few days, stay at Seawall during your trip to Acadia. Wonderland and Ship Harbor trails are just down the road as is the incomparable Seawall and Bass Harbor Lighthouse. Stop in at Gott's Store (a legendary local spot) for coffee in the morning. Take a detour over to Tremont or go to Thurston's in Bernard. Enjoy the true beauty of Acadia and the hospitality of the Quietside. I think Seawall used to be a walk-up campground that didn't take reservations but I'm sure that's changed. I made our reservation through the Reserve America website - cost was $22 per night. The rangers that checked us in were really friendly and the campsites and bathrooms were very well kept. Seawall would be perfect if it just had showers (neither of the Acadia campgrounds have showers). Ugh. Still I really enjoyed my visit to Seawall and I'd definitely stay there again when in the mood to camp.

This was my first camping experience and while I have a lot to learn, I must say the start was great. Mostly because of this wonderful campground. Loop D, Site #54 We stayed here for just one night @$22. This was a walk-in site but just a minute or two walk from the parking lot. The bathroom was just around the corner and there was also a water tap on our lane. Pros: Camping site - Amazing place with ample space for two large tents or about three small tents. It had a fire pit with a grill on top, so you can easily make your food any which way you desire. The rangers are quite friendly at the check-in. But I didn't see any inside for the rest of the stay. Bathroom - Quite clean. But I also realized, it really depends on the users how clean the bathroom will be. Thankfully we had thoughtful users who ensured it wasn't messy or stinky inside. There is toilet paper. However, no soap. Just a sanitizer. So make sure to carry soap and towel for drying out hands and face. There are no showers on this campground (I really don't know why they would not incorporate that). Which was a bummer since we were all sweaty from the day long hike, but there are showers available in close by areas. Also, just one power point in the bathroom and it can get crowded in the morning and at night when everyone is either waking up or off to sleep. Surrounding - Really close to the Seawall beach. Definitely consider a stop over for the sunrise and sunset. It is also close to the Northeast Harbor and it's got a nice little town with grocery stores, restaurants, ice-cream shops, stores, etc. There is also an ampitheatre inside the campground. I didn't see it, but they seem to have events there from time to time. Cons: I expected a bit more privacy. It was great that I could see my neighbors on all the sides, but I really didn't want to hear all the discussions everywhere or see every little thing they did. There isn't enough physical barrier between the campsites. At night, by the light of the fires all around you can see almost 2 sites over what the campers are doing. It got a bit weird! But all our neighbors were very respectful and nice, therefore not a bad experience.

a lovely place to camp. It was reasonably quiet, clean and not very fancy. Walk in sites are all pretty accessible even with gear, and the fire pits are really easy to make a good cook fire in. I did wish the sinks in the womens' bathrooms had warm water and were a little easier to wash up/brush teeth in but hey, it's camping. I didn't mind that there were no showers, the camp store up the road had clean pay showers and wasn't very far away. I do recommend reserving a site, especially if you plan to go during peak season.

I was hoping to relax and unwind... No power, no showers...i thought it would attract other quiet loving nature lovers... They have horrible generator hours...from 8 am to 7 pm...and thats what it was 11 hrs of non stop generator running form every direction... We left three days early cause we couldnt take the noise anymore.

We loved our stay at Seawall, and have decided never to leave. The ranger, Camille, was incredibly helpful and we would follow her to the ends of the earth. Her recommendations are law, and she believed in us when no one else did. It was in a beautiful part of the Island, off the beaten path, so to speak, and just a short walk to the ocean. The bathrooms were so clean, though there were no showers.

Seawall is pleasant and quiet, as others have noted. It is located near the ocean and the natural seawall, making it a pretty place to check out. It is unfortunately distant from much of the rest of the park, so expect a 20-mile or so ride to the main park. We had hoped to cycle from our campsite to the top of Cadillac mountain for sunrise, but had to settle for driving when considering the distance and the hour at which we were rising. Please also note there are modern bathrooms though no showers. One must travel about a half mile down the road from the entrance to a convenience store which charges $1 for two minutes of shower, open 8a-8p, last shower at 7:45p.

Very affordable option at $14/night, as with any national park. Half of the campsite are on walk-in basis, which was good, since we didn't have an reservation. The downside is they run out of campsite around 9:30 AM. We waited in line from 8 AM to get a site. The site is very spartan, without showers. If you are doing tent camping, make sure you bring a pad, as the sites are gravel covered. The location is on the more barren side of the island. If you are doing a reservation, I would recommend to go to Blackwoods, since there's a lot more activities - hiking, carriage road, scenic drives. For the money we saved, we spent the same amount or more on gas. If I were to do it over again, I would get a private campground on the Bar Harbor side for around $29/night with all the amenities.

I really liked this campground. As others have noted there are no showers, but we liked the way the campsites were laid out. The bathrooms were always very clean and it was great being able to walk over to the seaward side to go walking over the rocks at low tide. Note - the campsites are NOT on the sea. A bus comes regularly and I think goes around both sides of the island. Yes, we will be going back!

Really beautiful, well maintained campgrounds. I stayed in D loop and had a 300 ft walk up. I loved that each site had its own fire pit and picnic table! The ground was also very level- no rock diggin' in my back at night! We could hear the tide crashing at night...aaahhh serenity. Bathrooms are insanely clean, but no hands soap. As stated, no showers on the grounds. Dog friendly! A ways away from many trails but not a bad trade for the area. They also have free programs at the amphitheater! For $14 a night, it's pretty swell.

Solid campground, nicely run by the NPS. Very good prices and clean bathrooms. It was nice you had to park your car and walk a bit to each campsite, making the campgrounds quieter. Quite hours are from 8 pm- 10 am, FYI. Ranger Jenkins was very condescending to his fellow park ranger. Stinks to be that guy. It was a little frustrating there weren't showers at the campsite. It seemed they had made a sneaky deal with the Seawall Store down the road, who were making a fortune charging $1 for 2 min of showering.

A great, cheap place to go camping in a beautiful spot of the country. Online reservations were quick and easy, and check in when we got the the camp was quick. The bathrooms (while not having soap) were clean. When making a reservation you really have to look at a map, some of the sites are a nice distance apart while others are right on-top of each other. I wasn't a fan of the gravel ground in the sites - I've never experienced that before.

Having camped at Blackwoods twice previously we decided to give Seawall a shot this time and hike more in the western park of MDI. (Yes, on this trip we never made it to the top of Cadillac Mountain.) The following is a list of the positives and negatives: Positives: - Walk in sites are available where you park and carry your items a few hundred feet. This allows a little more solitude and privacy from vehicle traffic and being woken up at night by someones headlights or doors slamming. - The walk in sites are available at a discount to the drive in sites. - Since this is a national park, there is no restriction on drinking at your site like at state parks. - Plenty of spigots available for refilling the drinking water each day prior to hiking. - Drains with baskets are provided for dumping your water following the cleaning of your cooking gear. - Bathrooms with lights are provided. Negatives: - There is no collection of dead wood allowed. All firewood must be purchased locally from the store or private land owners. Would suggest picking up the $2 bundles along the street. Parks in Canada for example provide unlimited wood within the park for a nominal 5$ fire permit. - No showers available within the park. There are many other parks that do provide showers, such as Vermont parks where for 20$ the showers are included in addition to the campsite. - Not enough parking at the walk in sites. Had a fun time locating parking arriving back at the park at night from having been buying supplies. - Many sites are reserved for campers who have not done so in advance. "Walk in" reservations. However, this process is flawed as one should not have to wait in line for 8AM for the office to open up. In the summer you have just wasted 3 daylight hours of hiking. There must be a better process. - Valid proof of park entrance payment is required - this includes the season pass, week pass, etc. Otherwise this is added to your camping fee. In summary, have been to better campgrounds, however, this is the best value currently for camping on MDI.

Sites are clean and well maintained. Bathrooms are cleaned daily and there is hand sanitizer but being your own soap. There is a separate wash station where you can clean dishes. Sites are clearly marked and there's a pile of mulch with a wheelbarrow in case your site gets a little puddle like. We didn't need it but it's a nice touch. Book well in advance during peak summer weekends. There were some cancellations due to weather but I booked one of four remaining sites 3 weeks before we camped the weekend after Fourth of July. Good campground and their website clearly lists amenities provided.

The 2 stars are only because of the beautiful location of this campground. The gorgeous seawall is about a 10 minute walk or a 2 minute bike ride!!! When the campground is quiet at night, you can sleep to the waves crashing on the walls of the sea. :) Other perk is the Explorer Bus has a stop at this campground every 30 minutes. Also, the bathrooms have plugs for hairdryers and getting a quick surge of juice for your electronics. Other than that, I would not recommend this campground. We stayed 7 nights and 6 days in the middle of August this year. I deducted 3 stars for good reasons. 1. They do not enforce quiet hours. 8 am - 10 pm. I was woken up every single morning before 7 am by kids screaming and people speaking loudly. One night there was a large crew who stayed up past midnight singing and laughing loudly. After long days of hiking/biking, I needed good sleep but I never got it because of the lack of enforcement. 2. Unsecured. There are no rangers on site from about 9 pm to 8 am. This is poor management for safety reasons alone and also for any one who needs quiet hours enforced. I never saw any rangers come around the sites which I thought was odd. The camp grounds I have stayed at before, rangers are usually friendly and involved with their occupants. 3. Camp sites sit on top of each other. No privacy. Might as well camped with the folks at the 3 sites that surrounded my site (D95). 4. Check-in was uninformative. Troy, who checked us in, simply highlighted the map and sent us on our way. We wandered the campground trying to find our site! After parking by the trail that lead to our site, we realized the walk to D95 was VERY long. This made it a complete haul for all our camping gear! Luckily, I found one wheel-barrel which helped a little bit. 5. The upkeep was poor. Our site had trash on the ground when we arrived and the fire pit was filled about 6 inches of burned wood. Luckily, I had a trowel to dig it out. 6. Not just no free firewood, there was no firewood at all!!! This is a campground, correct? We had to backtrack on the road and look for the best wood bundles for the price. The best deal I found was a few days later, at a gas station. I actually got about 8 pieces of wood for 4 bucks, instead of the OVERPRICED firewood on the road surrounding Seawall Campground. Along the roadside, you can pay 2 bucks for about 3 pieces and upwards to 5 bucks for about 6 pieces. Pfft. 7. Bathrooms were disgusting. I felt cleaner peeing outside in the woods than within the 4 stalls that were offered. The were consistently dirty because they only clean the bathrooms once a day. Also there was ONLY hand sanitizer in the bathrooms, no soap. Warning: No showers. I love camping but I also love hygiene. TIP: Go down the road to Bass Harbor Campground and pay 3 bucks for a hot shower as long as you want. The drive out to the East Side of the Island is over a half hour from Seawall Campground! Just a heads up, I'd recommend staying on the EAST Side of the Island if that is where most of your activities will be. Not too much happening on the West side. Thurston's Lobster Pound is less than 10 minutes from Seawall Camgpround. If you like your seafood FRESH (who doesn't) then this place will meet and go above your standards. We went there TWICE because it was that exceptional. Okay, good luck camping and don't forget to pack your can opener!! We forgot ours :) Cheers.

A bit far from the main attractions of Acadia NP, but very well maintained, quiet, and beautiful. The staff was also very pleasant and helpful.

Camped in D loop in August. Our site, No. 9, was really small, with barely enough room for our 9 x 12 tent. The trail to the restroom ran between our tent and the picnic table. On the plus side, the campsite was quiet and the views of the sky from open areas was magnificent. The nearby store with public showers was a bit funky but kind of fun. We always left there feeling really clean. Seawall is a long ways from anything, which I rather liked. Bring everything you need.

Seawall campground was a great place to camp. We camped in D71, a walk-in site and the sites were fairly decently spread out, and other than a screaming kid one morning, pretty quiet as well. The sites and bathrooms are well maintained. The bathrooms have hand sanitizer, but no soap, and also have a separate sink to dump dirty dish water and fill up your dish buckets. I would give this campground 5 stars if the reservation process was more accurate and it had showers (it was quite a pain and delay in the morning to have to drive 2 miles away to shower). Sites are reserved via reserveamerica.com, and they said that each site would have a grill, plus many pictures on reserveamerica and Yelp show grills including a picture that someone took of the D71 site so we did not bring our portable grill, however when we got there we learned that they removed all of the grills for 2016. If I was going back to the area and planned on being as busy as we were this trip, I would try Quietside or Bass Harbor for the showers. But if I planned on being around the campground more and the showers became much less of an issue, I would go back to seawall. I definitely will stay on the quiet side (Tremont, Southwest Harbor) of the island again as opposed to the busier eastern side.

We've camped with our pop-up in many Nation Park Service and National Forest campgrounds and this was by far the biggest disappointment we've found to date. No showers was the first real turn off. Yes, I suppose I should have caught that when I made the reservation, but it's 2013, I guess I assume we've progressed that far. Second, the site we had was back to back with our neighbors. I'm pretty used to us all pulling in the same way and that's how the game is played. Here, we pulled in opposite our neighbors so the back of our camper was a foot (literally) from our neighbors camper. Pop-up camper have thing walls. I heard things I didn't need to hear. Come on folks, let's update the system. When we go back to Acadia, I'll look for someplace different. The best part is that it is away from the crowds of Bar Harbor, but that's little benefit when you don't want to be there.

Inexpensive. Walk in sites are accessible, but also keep it quiet. Great location with beautiful views nearby. Bathrooms were so clean! Staff was so helpful and a pleasure to talk with. They had ranger let talks nightly on varying topics which we found to be very interesting. Will be coming back here for sure.

I have been coming to seawall to camp almost every summer for my entire 24 years of life. I would never stay anywhere else on the island. It is quiet, beautiful, and within driving distance to everything on the island. There are sites for RVs, (c loop) sites just for walk-up tents (d loop), and sites for pop-ups and tents with cars (a and b loops). Some sites are more secluded and spacious than others but that is typical of all campgrounds. Starting next summer they will take site specific reservations so if you know you want a certain spot you can request it. The bathrooms are pretty clean, but you do have to bring your own soap and towels and there are no showers. However right down the road there is a store with coin operated hot showers and I have never had a problem with those. Everyone is very friendly and helpful, and I have never had a bad experience. The area is beautiful and I will continue to camp here for years to come.

Great! We were about 200 ft. from our campsite and at first I thought that I wouldn't like it but soon I liked the fact it was tucked back. You're in the middle of the woods and can hear the ocean! Bathrooms are very clean. There are no showers but it's just a quick ride up the road for that. And you can't beat the price! Stayed there 5 days. We will definitely stay there again!

This was my first time in Acadia and we stayed at this site for one night. We were surprised by free firewood, which was nice. I wasn't impressed with the actual camp site. We couldn't really find a good place to put our tent because the site had stones everywhere, not too comfortable for sleeping. There are no showers, which we knew ahead of time (there are showers for a fee 0.5 miles away) but the bathrooms had no soap or paper towels. So that was kind of a pain. If you walk out of the campground and cross the street there is a very nice little beach area, covered mostly with rocks, but it offers some pretty amazing views. Nothing like laying out on the huge rocks getting some sun!

Beautiful place, the fire pit was charming, and I loved listening to the ocean as I slept. Sites are aren't too close to each other, so I slept very well. Bathrooms were clean, but be sure to bring soap and paper towels. Showers are available at a nearby store, but hours are 10AM-8PM, so we missed out on those. For $14 a night on MDI this place far exceeded my expectations.

I stayed here for three nights and loved this campground. The campground is clean and well-kept. While there are no showers on site, the bathrooms are clean. The rangers were friendly and helpful.This was our first time visiting Acadia and I am so glad we stayed here. The campsites had a picnic table and fire pit. The sites are private.

We stayed in Seawall last September (2013). This was our first trip to Acadia, but we loved it and plan on returning to the same campground this year. This year is site specific for rentals so we scouted out another site that we'd like. We stayed in the D loop with a 300 ft walk in. Because it was September there weren't a lot of people here which was great. Had there been a lot of people though, we noticed you would have been quite close together which is really the only downside. The space is good, tent is on gravel, but it was flat. lots of trees around. We saw 2 deer one morning which was great and two nights racoons tried to take our stuff, which was not so great, but that was probably our fault. Be careful with your food, they run fast! This campground was shockingly quiet. You could hear a pin drop at night (as in any time after dark). One night there were people loud (not annoyingly because they were no where near us and not late) but they were the ONLY thing you could hear and they were pretty far away from us. Across the way by the entrance of the campground is a great picnic area along the water. Really beautiful, nice place to hang out for a bit. Bathrooms seemed fine and clean to me, but like I said we were there in September, much less people. This part of the island is nice because its away from the main section. There's still food, place to rent bikes, etc. and even hiking. We had no problem driving in to the park each day.

I camped here in the middle of July in 2012 and it was perfect camping weather. The site was clean, with a fire pit and a picnic table. Campsites are separated by lots of pine trees, so privacy was not an issue. I booked online about two days before I arrived, so I didn't have to get there at the crack of dawn and start waiting in line for a spot. FYI: The main portion of the park is about 30 minutes away on the other side of the island.

Great campground! Very quiet, at least when we were there. Bathrooms were very clean (no showers). There are multiple places on the way there that sell fire wood. Couple of them are right down the street. It's roughly a 1/2 hour ride to the other side of the park depending on where you're going. So that is something to consider. I'd stay there again...
