I was considering the purchase of a used 72’ Ocean Alexander and I needed a marine survey and valuation done. I started calling around and eventually called Seaworthy Marine Services. When I first talked with Keven from Seaworthy on the phone, I knew he was the right person. He was very knowledgeable and informative, he took the time to explain the entire process, he addressed all my questions and concerns, he even walked me through his sample reports on his website that show the details of his reports. We decided to schedule 2 separate days due to the size of the boat and local logistics. I was fortunate to be there when Keven showed up to inspect the boat He had done some research, and his information was current and up to date. He was organized and very professional. I was impressed with his efforts, the level of detail, and the overall scope of information that he gathered. On the second day we did the sea trials and the haul out inspection. Kevin worked diligently on both days documenting his findings and creating his report. He spent additional time on the computer working late into the night doing market analysis searching for comparable sales and related information
Kevin is an accredited Master Marine Surveyor with USPAP and ABYC certificates, and the first report titled The Conditions and Valuation Report of a Marine Survey for Pre-Purchase of the Vessel … shows it. The report was organized and easy to follow. It was very detailed and thorough, and most of the findings along with the related details and recommendations also included clear pictures with circles and arrows. When I finished reading the 75-page report, I felt like I knew the boat inside and out. It included vessel documentation, safety conditions, and the condition of all the systems and their components. The report also included an overall statement of condition, market analysis, the fair market value and the BUC replacement value. The second report titled The Recommendations and Findings Report was 29 pages. It was also very professional looking, organized, and easy to follow. All safety related findings were listed first, Items requiring Timely Attention were listed second and the general observations and notable items came last. I felt very confident with these two reports, and they played a key factor in my overall decision-making process. I was so impressed with Kevin that I would consider purchasing a boat sight unseen based on one of Kevin's Marine Survey reports.
If you are seriously considering the purchase of a boat and need a detailed and accurate marine survey, I would highly recommend you talk with Kevin Nicholson at Seaworthy Marine Services.
