The Best Distilleries for Gin Tasting in Scotland - AFAR

"Located on the outskirts of the city, this all-natural distillery centers its visitor experience around an herb garden, glasshouse and drying room to showcase botanicals such as lemon verbena, elderflower, jasmine and a wild gin made with bog myrtle and nettle; tours and tastings are intimate and focused on the garden-to-bottle story (tasting priced around $19)." - Katie MacLeod

Great experience on the Discovery Experience, knowledgable and funny tour guide and a good selection of gins to taste. Location is a bit tricky to get to without a car so make sure to sort a taxi or a lift but worth it for nice scenery. Recommend booking lunch in advance as was quite busy in the cafe too.

We did the alchemy experience after receiving a voucher as a gift. We had fun and got to try lots of different gins. Welcome was lovely and the tour guide Rojo was so knowledgeable. Would recommend!

What a lovely, cute and natural garden with a local produce shop! It's calm, very well looked after. The staff are friendly and approachable. They sell plants, herbs, their distilled gin and honey. There is a lovely cafe which serves cakes and food at lunch time. You can have a wonder around and sit. It is a great place to bring young ones, explore the different plants and enjoy the sun if you're lucky! I would definitely recommend you stop by for a treat right off the bypass. It's great to see such places still thriving.

We are visiting Edinburgh for the first time from the United States. Decided to stop in at the Secret Gardens Gin Distillery. So glad we put this on our itinerary. A+... gorgeous landscape and photo opportunities, staff was very helpful and gave us multiple tastings, so we could make the wisest decisions. Ended up going home with 5 bottles of gi and a gorgeous mug. Thank you for making it a wonderful trip. Kudos to the pleasant lady in the shop, who gave us so much advice on flavors, pairings etc. We appreciate your hospitality!

Such a lovely afternoon wandering around the beautiful gardens. Not too busy and plenty of space to distance. Lots of peaceful seating areas. Super selection of herbs and also botanical gins in the shop yum. Just 4 stars instead of 5 as no signs to distance in shop and just one young assistant. Limited ability to distance and people kept piling in despite me saying it was already too crowded. Otherwise excellent.

We had our wedding at the Secret Herb Garden last year and Wow! Just wow! We were blown away... the venue looked unbelievable and the service was amazing! It was utter perfection! The whole team, especially Karen, went to incredible lengths to make our day so, so special and we are forever grateful. All of our loved ones commented on how amazing, friendly and helpful the staff were. We really did have the best team on our special day and the venue can only be described as magical. Thank you once more to The Secret Herb Garden for bringing our vision to life, you really went above and beyond in every way. A very special place with exceptional staff. Love, Siobhan & Ollie xxx

I’d spotted this on a map of the area and was keen to visit. We arrived early, so had time to enjoy a delicious lunch in the glasshouse bistro (what a lovely place). We then joined a gin tasting tour. Our guide, Rebekah, was very knowledge and told us of the history of gin while we enjoyed a gin cocktail. We were then shown their operation, from glasshouses and gardens where their botanicals are produced organically and sustainably, to the drying rooms and distillery. We tasted each of the four main gins, with serving and cocktail suggestions from Rebekah. It was well over an hour well spent. We will certainly be back at the Secret Garden in the future.

Fantastic food and service at their cafe, many flavours which will leave you wondering which one of the 100’s of herbs in their garden was used. Once my partner and I ate and had a refreshing gin cocktail, we explored the vast gardens filled with new smells and varieties of herbs, some I’ve never come across. There’s geese, flowers, and sun if you’re lucky! Definitely worth a visit.
