I have very mixed emotions about secrets Maroma. I would be inclined to give it three stars because the rooms were nice and the staff was unbelievably friendly and extremely helpful. It was clean. That being said, our ocean view room was far from what is ethically considered an ocean view, The food was barely palatable, and the single reason I had to deduct the star was entirely based on the number of fake reviews. My girlfriend and I did not have a bad time, but we certainly would have chosen somewhere else if the reviews had been honest. When you pay hundreds of dollars per night for all inclusive, you don’t expect to be this lacking in quality of the food. That being said, I can’t reiterate enough, how helpful the staff was, and everyone was very friendly. Between this and cleanliness, these are top-tier concerns when staying at hotels and secrets nailed them both.

Excellent resort! We went with a group and we all stayed in the preferred area and the service was 10/10. The staff was friendly, observant and went above and beyond. Grounds were immaculately kept. Rooms beautiful and clean. You can tell they take pride in the resort. There was some construction going on, but they did a great job of not letting it disturb the overall flow/feel of the resort. Would happily return!

We recently spent a few days on vacation at Secrets Maroma Resort, and it was a truly special experience. We’ve been to Cancun several times, but this resort offered something unique. The quality of the food at every restaurant was outstanding—you could really feel the care and attention put into each dish. At the bars, we enjoyed unlimited cocktails and a wide variety of drinks, which made the stay even more enjoyable. Our room was incredibly clean and comfortable, and thanks to the friendly housekeeping staff who always kept things in order, we were able to fully relax. We had a great time swimming in the pool and sipping drinks at the poolside bar—it was the perfect combination of fun and relaxation. At the Preserved restaurant, we enjoyed a quiet and private dining experience. We came here looking for peace and rest after a busy period at work, and this place truly delivered. The nightly shows were also a highlight—entertaining and impressive. We highly recommend Secrets Maroma Resort and will definitely return for another visit!

Have been going here on at least 10 previous times. Since Hyatt has taken over, this place has slipped big time. Paying the big dollars for first class experience. Now they money grab, hounding you to pay extra for Preferred Club. You are treated second class if you don't pump another 300 per day. It is obvious they are on a cost cutting mission on food, and the number of staff. I can now see they are dropping in the " BEST" All Inclusive ratings on line. Staff is still very nice and work hard, but numbers have been cut back. Food was a disgrace. Was there 5 nights and could only choke down 4 partial meals. Breakfast was always their shining star, but not now. French Toast was Rock Hard and Bacon was sitting in so much grease that it appeared deep fried. Steak Restaurant was exceptionally notable. Meat was so tough , you couldn't cut it. I watch people at other tables look at each other when they tried to cut their meal. The shows have dropped down in quality and had very little attendance. Especially disappointing was The Rock Show was had always been amazing. The view of what is still the best beach in Mexico is ruined by moving the Bali Beds to the front of the shore. Beach attendants gladly take your tips, but last you see of them. Wait service was slow compared to the past. Thankfully, they caught on I was a big tipper, and finally gave us attention. Not big drinkers, but its sad they are now pushing off cheaper levels of spirits. As we entered transportation to leave, the Bag Captain talked to me. Said that many people who are frequent returnees have told him they wont be back Absolute shame!

Google
The rooms are large with service twice daily, mini bar, and requested liquor for the Preferred Rooms. We had Marcelo as our Concierge and he was attentive to our needs and requests. The resort is beautiful and the beach is large with soft sand. Unfortunately we had large amounts of Sargassum, which is out of the control of the resort. The staff worked hard from sunrise to sunset to remove the sargassum as it hit the beach. There are numerous activities daily and the restaurants were fantastic. If you are male you have to wear slacks at the Italian, French, Mexican, and Japanese restaurants if you wish to dine indoors. ||100% fantastic resort!

Google
Great hotel with really friendly and helpful staff. Well maintained property. Every hotel had seaweed piled up on the beach (this time of the year) and seemed like this hotel was one of the few that made an effort to clean it up every day. Food was average, there were some hit and some misses. Great pools and a really good crowd of guests that were friendly and there to relax and soak in the sun. Second time to Cancun area, second time with Secrets and I highly recommend them. I did a lot of research before choosing (videos and reviews) and this was the best hotel for the price.

Google
Their words when you arrive are “welcome home” and from that moment on, they live up to those words! Every thought is catered, before it even leaves your mouth! We had the Governor's Swim up suite and it did not disappoint! Luxurious is how you feel, the entire time! The beach is beautiful! All staff are courteous and so helpful and friendly, and our concierge Guillermo was top notch, he held a wealth of information and catered to all and every request we had of him! Highly recommend this resort! |The Cantwells

The resort is really nice, everything taken care of till the finest detail. Beautifully designed, gardens amazing, spotless clean. Staff amazing, would not stop asking if you needed anything, constantly asking, serving food and drinks in minutes. We would come back, I would highly recommend. Amazing service and amazing staff. Food was really nice, amazing variety, plates beautifully presented. Room service amazing, rooms would be done twice per day, with nice unexpected details, small chocolates, new towels constantly, surprising number of staff, everywhere… New shows and events all the time… with great variety of food and thematic dinners. Unfortunately we had sagazo (seaweeds) at the beach ( not their fault….) and the hotel would be constantly cleaning it.

Yelp
I've been to three secrets resorts in Mara is my favorite. Staff is terrific, the beach is amazing, the layout of the pools bars and restaurants is really good. And the preferred area is open, breezy, quiet, has a large full bar with a good menu. The other resorts have "snacks", but a cooked to order menu is much better. Nightly music in the lobby area is always enjoyable too!

Yelp
Overall, it was an okay experience. Honestly, we were thinking about returning in November, but on the last 2 dinners in a row, the servers really killed it in the negative sense, so maybe we'll check out another resort, maybe we'll give this one another chance, but that remains to be seen. Food/Restaurants: The restaurants need to be a bit more cooled because I was literally sweating, especially for dinner where many restaurants require long pants for men. Breakfast and lunch buffet: The buffets were great. By the end of our stay, the menu was getting rather repetitive, but food itself was fresh and tasty. Servers were great and very attentive. The worker at the omelet station in the morning next to the smoothie station was amazing. She made great omelet. The other omelet station with the flat grill was a bit weird in that she'd cook the egg separately and wrap the ingredients in it like a burritto with egg as the tortilla. The crepes were amazing though. Bars: All the bars are great. Lobby bar is always so hammered that I felt bad for the bartender. The swim up bar was great. I forgot his name, but there was this one bartender at the swim up bar who was really creative with his drinks where I'd ask if he can do a drink with certain flavor or somethign and he'd whip something right up and it'd taste so good. El Patio: The tacos here are amazing. Their tacos are so creative, especially the octopus and bone marrow tacos. The waiters were absolutely delightful. Definitely check this place out. We went here first dinner and I think that almost set our expectations a bit too high. Himitsu: We had the regular table as hibachi at these places tend to be not very good. We came here twice and the food was actually pretty decent. The ramen and miso soup were good, and sushi was very serviceable. The sashimi in ponzu was good, albeit overpowering, but that overpowering allowed my wife who usually doesn't eat sushi to enjoy the sushi. BUT our experience during our second night was terrible, all thanks to a server named Elmer. He was rude, arrogant, and honestly a prick. He rarely came over and not once checked on us during the meal. And when we wanted to order main dishes after we had eaten appetizer or dessert after we've had the main dishes,, he'd cut us off as we started to speak and shush us with something like "let me clean this off first" or something like that. It's fine if he wants to clean stuff off, but don't cut off while we're trying to see if we can order. Bordeaux: The food was rather okay. It's not bad but there's nothing really special about it. The waiter was really pushy with us buying wines, but we just wanted house sauvignon blanc. When he brought it, he poured some for us to try, so we tried. And when I simply asked if this was house, he proceeded to snicker while saying that of course it was house and that there was no way he'd open a non house wine and give us some without us purchasing some and made fun of the fact that I simply asked to some of the other patrons. I guess he hasn't actually served at good restaurants because all the Michelin restaurants we've been to, or even some really good ones, when we order bottle of wine, they pour some to make sure that the wine hasn't gone bad, not necessarily for us to decide if the wine we ordered is good or not. We pretty much decided to leave right after this without finishing our food. This was kind of sad because that rude waiter wasn't even our actual main waiter, and our actual waiter was very composed, pleasant and accommodating. Entertainment: Shows: Element show had terrible sound tuning where the singer's voice was so muffled that it was hard to enjoy the music. Show was cool though. But because many of the shows were music-based, after this show our first night, we kind of didn't go to any shows. Archery: This was our favorite activity that we did and we're sad we were too tired to go the second time. There were 3 people running it with one of them being Andre, and they were so fun and very helpful in teaching us how to shoot. This was an absolute blast and I hope they offer this more, or even make it so that people can schedule and just go shoot some arrows, instead of having only like an hour every other day. Kayaking: This was fun. I think Andre was there as well and actually ended up saving my brother in law when his kayak tipped over. It can be a bit tiring, but it was fun to kayak out to the ocean. Room: We got the partial ocean view, but honestly we didn't care too much as if we wanted to see ocean, we would have gone out to the beach. The room itself was very well airconditioned, and turndown services were great. Everything was clean and the bed was so comfortable. My wife loved the pillow menu. There really is nothing to complain about the room and room service.

Yelp
My husband and I just returned from our baby moon and it was everything we hoped it would be. The resort was incredible - our room was so nice (the AC was pumping), the staff so kind and attentive. We couldn't get over how great the food was and appreciated being able to try all of the many dining options out. Even being more limited in what I should have, there were always multiple options that were exactly what I wanted. The beach was clean and well maintained with staff constantly bringing around bottles of water to stay hydrated (and fun mocktails for me). It wasn't overly crowded where we felt like we had to fight over beach huts or pool chairs. For it being rainy season too, it was more of a "Florida" situation where one day it rained for 10 minutes and stopped, not impacting our plans at all.

Yelp
This is an amazing resort with a great powder white sand beach. The services were amazing including the entertainment department and the restaurants are out of this world.

Yelp
Here with a friend on vacation. Beautiful resort. I must come back here again. So the purpose of this trip is my friend in sales did extremely well and was awarded this beautiful getaway that included a plus one. Yes I have good friends lol. But it was amazing. The resort was beautiful and the staff was great! The food was top notch! I wish I could've stayed a little longer. Can't wait to write the next review when I go back.

Yelp
Just spent an incredible week at Secrets Maroma Beach, and I can't say enough good things! From the moment we arrived, every single staff member went above and beyond to make our stay unforgettable. The front desk, bartenders, baristas, pool attendants, and dining staff were all so friendly, attentive, and genuinely caring. The service was truly top-notch! We felt so welcome and well taken care of, and the entire experience was just perfect. Can't wait to come back and would highly recommend this resort to anyone looking for a luxurious, relaxing getaway! Thank you, Secrets Maroma Beach, for an amazing stay!

Yelp
Fabulous time. Service exceptional. Food very good. However, French restaurant Bordeaux was by far our favorite food. Cheese soufflé, french onion soup, salmon was incredible! We did listen to time share, which they profess is 90min and not a time share, and got free beach cabana for day with private butler and romantic dinner on beach for our time. If you want to blow 3+ hours of your time then a great deal. Overall would recommend

Yelp
HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND! This was the best all-inclusive resort we have been to yet. I would say this place is best if you are in the 30+ club and are wanting the ultimate relaxation and spa vibes. When you walk in, you are welcomed with champagne and a nice greeting. They all say "welcome home" which is the perfect touch. Activities- kayaking to the coral reef, bicycle ride (a little bumpy), catamaran to Isla Mujeres (booked through company in resort), fire show, magic show, tennis courts, archery, silent disco, volleyball, singers, dancers, tequila tasting Must-do activists for me- you have to kayak! This was beautiful and truly amazing. Try to do a double kayak as it is a bit tiring. Silent disco was a blast! 10/10 recommend. Catamaran trip was also fun but make sure to do the early one as you do return later if you don't do the early one. Didn't get to see the cenotes but will do next time :) You won't get bored here! Food- okay the food was jaw-dropping good! So many options and so so fresh. I was surprised that my favorite was the Italian restaurant. The fresh parmigiana was excellent along with everything they served- you can't go wrong. The sushi was good and you do have to make reservations if you want the hibachi. I'd recommend making that reservation early as it is booked. The breakfast buffet is delicious and service really is top notch. The intercontinental buffet is also 10/10. I'd also recommend trying the food they have set outside when they do activities. We had a blast doing that and being outside! Also was told by the waiters that the resort is Mexican-owned which I love. Another plus to supporting this establishment is that we were told that they owner is very good to his employers and makes sure they are paid even through tough times. He also provides them transportation. You can tell on most of their faces how happy they are.

Yelp
I apologize ahead of time for the long review, but this was by far one of the best birthday vacations I have ever had. My boyfriend and I visited Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera for our birthdays, which were both at the beginning of October. Our flight was initially delayed due to plane issues, so we arrived much later than expected. However, the resort was waiting for us and offered an upgrade to an oceanfront suite. We were in 2527 (on the premier side), which was terrific and extremely private (being a corner unit). While we enjoyed the upgrade, it created issues with our reservations for the Spa, Tequila Tasting, Beach Cabana, and private dinner we had prepaid for before arrival. The system did not transfer to the new reservations, creating issues. However, despite some misses, Emmanuel (our concierge) went out of his way to rectify things and ensure our vacation was unforgettable. He even hand engraved our locked for the heart wall, which will never be forgotten. The thought brings me to tears (see the picture). There were so many wonderful people at the resort, but we enjoyed spending our evening listening to live music in the lobby with Jessica (one of the waitresses). After one night, she greeted us every evening like family and knew our drinks. It was such a fantastic feeling, which added to our stay. Then there was Veronica from the tequila tasting, who hugged me every time we ran into each other at the resort and referred the wine concierge to visit us at the pool cabana. I made sure to go by and say goodbye to everyone before I left because Jessica and Veronica were such sweethearts (as well as Emmanuel). No matter what mistakes happened in the system when we upgraded, the people and services made it all worth it. We are hoping we can return for the New Year holiday. We loved this resort, but more importantly, the people and customer service. It felt like being amongst family. The beach is breathtaking and has to be the best beach of all the Secret's location. The sand is white and feels excellent, and the property is amazing. The spa was everything, and all the food was delicious. While I can share the negative things that happened, it is not worth it because systems break and things happen, but when the staff goes out of their way to make things right and ensure you are happy, it makes this trip worth it, and we look forward to coming back. We already miss Jessica, Emmanuel, and Veronica and look forward to seeing them again soon. I suggest that men should pack pants and collar shirts because most restaurants require them.

Yelp
For a five-star resort, they didn't hit the mark with food or service. The beach is gorgeous, and one of the best in the area, which is what is so disappointing. The resort is well groomed, the rooms are nice, but not modern, it's not a new resort. The showers are a bit small, the double sinks are very small and not a lot of counter space. The beds are comfy, pillow menu and plenty of toiletries. We got the club access, which we found somewhat underwhelming. They didn't check it at the beach or the bar with upgraded liquor. I think we did a room in a better location though. The club access restaurant was mediocre, and nothing about it was special except it was beach-facing. The dinner restaurants don't take reservations, so if you're not the first seating you will be waiting a while. Service is slow and unprofessional. The food is really bad, it's like the people cooking it and eating it have never been to France, Italy and even the Mexican place was not authentic. It was like eating suburban strip mall food. There were no high-end dishes, all of them lacked a variety of fish options, and no crab or lobster on the menu. The house wine choices were poor, and bottles were way overpriced. The liquor was not premium, it was like well drinks. The gym was pretty mediocre, the massage I got on the beach was also pretty average at best. It was not deep tissue like I asked for. Overall, this place is not hiring great hospitality talent, It just feels like they will hire anyone, and the chefs/cooks running the kitchens are not talented. We're foodies, and great food is part of our travel and this is not the place for it. We went out to dinner in Mayakoba and the difference was stark, amazing food everywhere. The beach is amazing, they clean it, the chairs are nice, the umbrellas are the huge built-in kind, but remember to get your chair early otherwise you won't get one.

Yelp
We've been to many all inclusive hotels around the Cancun area but I will admit it's been our first time back to Cancun since Covid. Our last trip was to DR in April which was possibly the best vacation we've ever been too! The beach is unbeatable and is literally one of the nicest beaches around the area. The waters are calm, warm and seaweed free (at least when we were there)! For me the best part about the beach was that we could rent a beach bed for $80 a day. I can't bake in the sun and need to be in the shade for the most part so having this bed reduced my anxieties in the morning to rush down at 6am to grab a spot. I'm an early riser but on vacation I like to sleep until at least 645. The beach bed was also amazing because you had your own waitress and waiter constantly coming by to see if you needed anything! We also like the beach vibe more as the pool was a little loud and too crazy for us. We really wanted to relax and chill! So if you want that vibe def head to the beach. We also found the food to be pretty decent and as a vegetarian I liked that they had an option at every restaurant. Our least favorite was the French restaurant and our favorite was the Asian one! The absolute biggest con about dinner was that buying a bottle of wine was a total rip off. Almost every bottle was over $100 and marked up way too much. Even though it's all inclusive we enjoy a nice bottle of wine with dinner. And we felt that they needed more options around $50! When we went to Dr they were priced at this point and we got a bottle of wine every night (6 nights). I think the hotel would sell a lot more wine if it was a little more affordable especially at all all inclusive. The rooms were nice and clean. The mattress was very comfortable for my liking not to soft and not too hard. But the view of the beach is so far away for most rooms that I don't believe the upgrade is worth it. We also almost always get a free upgrade when traveling but this place absolutely will not upgrade for free for any circumstance. The resort has a very odd layout and many unused places! The pool for example. Half of the water feature isn't a pool but there are chairs all around it. It's just to look at which is so weird to me. Who wants to sit around water you can't get into. So half the chairs at the resort go unused because they are around this weird water feature. Also the sports bar needs some updates as it feels pretty run down and they are always out of whatever you want. The better liquor and the better beer is never restocked. The biggest disappointment was the lobby bar and nightly entertainment. We headed down to the lobby bar around 530 hoping for some form of entertainment before dinner but it's basically dead until 7/8. It was so quiet I felt like I was going to fall asleep. The night club doesn't open until 11 which is so late. Why not just have it open for a longer period of time? It seemed like only a few employees were running it and then more people can enjoy the night club. We only made it one night when we forced ourselves to stay up and a tip for management try getting new bar tenders at the lobby bar. The one guy couldn't make a proper drink after like three tries and I saw most of the cocktail severs making their own I assume because they could make a better drink. We and a few other people had to explain to the bartender what to do. And if you request premium liquor make sure you watch them bc they will sneak the no name liquor in there. I just felt like a few of the cocktail waitresses would make better bar tenders. They were so much more friendly and made MUCH better drinks. Most hotels we go to the main bar is bustling, fun and the bartenders are amazing but not at this place. Overall, I'd rate the place a 3.5 with the beach and beach service being the biggest stand out and the lobby bar being the biggest room for improvement.

Alyssa B.

Yelp
My family and I went to Secrets Maroma for a birthday celebration. Upon arrival, we were instantly greeted with kindness. Throughout our trip, every employee was extremely nice and helpful. We attended many activities that the Entertainment Team provided. I can't say enough nice things about the Entertainment Team and how they made us feel right at home. 10/10 would recommend this resort to anyone!

Yelp
We did only one night stay here but let me tell you it was so worth doing . We had previous arrangements at another hotel . This place it's amazing . The beach here is so beautiful and the services and the food is VIP all the way . If you are looking for an adult only place to come and feel like a queen this is the place . The ocean view suite is a must .

Yelp
On August 14, 2023, we arrived at the resort to celebrate our delayed honeymoon. The very first thing we experienced was the fire and brimstone heat out there that was hotter than Satan's toes. The humidity was oppressive, and the average daily temperature had a heat index over 100°. This, of course, is out of their control; just laying the foundation, lol. The staff that greeted us was very friendly, polite, and accommodating; the champagne and ice-cold hand towels were a nice touch. The room was very nice and had a comfortable feel and Feng shui; complete with a step down living space and balcony with dual sliding glass doors that overlooked the swim up pools below us. The food and service were excellent at the Italian, French, and Seafood restaurants that we ate at. The poolside food stands had good food as well. There was live music nightly and some during the day; with plenty of lounging areas in shady places that took full advantage of picturesque views and steady, relaxing breezes. The entertainment staff held daily activities both poolside and on the beach. We taste tested samples of deserts and other cuisines from Japan, France, Italy, and Mexico during a short tour. The different textures and flavor combinations were a palate overload but in the most pleasurable way possible. We toured Chichen Itza and stood in front of the Mayan ruins. The tour guide was interesting and kept the group captivated with his knowledge and wit despite the sweltering heat. The next stop on the tour was the Cenote; a very large, fresh water sink hole where you were allowed to swim. We, instead, did the tequila tasting. I will say this, that swill they sell in the states is trash!! We purchased two bottles of El Jefe mango and coffee tequilas...heaven. ATV riding was great! The course was long with plenty of twisty bits, dips, and hazards. The next stop was the zip lines, 7 towers in all. I'm pretty sure we climbed to heaven by the time it was over. Cardio, and the stair master is recommended before you try this...lol The tour ended with a subterranean swim through a small Cenote. The initial shock from the cold water definitely caused some shrinkage and a shiver down my spine. Hanging from the ceiling were numerous stalactites as well as a large compliment of fruit bats. Batman would've been proud to call this home. Below the surface of the water were stalagmites and catfish; the deepest part was about 40 feet down. I only hit my head once, and my wifes hair was stroked gently by a stalagmite. This adventure culminated in an authentic Mexican lunch, which was pretty dam tastey. I almost forgot to mention that there's iguanas, lizards, geckos, coati (Mexican racoon), and mosquitos everywhere. Our honeymoon ended with a romantic private dinner on the beach.

Yelp
100% you NEED to go to this Secrets location! On a secluded beach and they rake the seaweed ALL day long so you don't notice it that much! Amazing resort and super clean. HAVE to eat at Boudreaux there! It was our lost favorite restaurant and we loved every single item. Seaside grill has the BEST Caesar salad we have ever had and cooked very good filets. Don't waste your time on preferred club at this resort unless you want it for the view from your room. We truly had the best time and might be back again!

Yelp
I just checked in. My Preferred Club King Ocean View suite has NO ocean view. All I got was apologies. The staff was nice, but they did not fix the room, and apparently I'll be moved 2 days from now to a room with an actual ocean view. So disappointed, everything was amazing until we were escorted to our room. I expected immediate satisfaction, and now I can't really get comfortable, because I'm moving rooms. They tried to upsell a suite at check-in....but when our room disappointed, I said how about that upgrade...it was 5 minutes later, but the upgraded room was no longer available

Yelp
I absolutely LOVED this resort! Secrets is amazing! The staff is consistently wonderful and genuinely wants their guests to enjoy their stay. The beach is wonderful, drinks were fantastic and every meal at the restaurant was the best thing we've eaten. I wouldn't recommend the room service food, but everything else was perfect!

Yelp
My husband and I just spent a week here for our honeymoon and we loved it!! The only thing we didn't love was the sushi at Himitsu and we know that's because we're from the SF Bay Area and are very very spoiled with the quality sushi we eat at home. Everything else was literally perfect and we couldn't have asked for anything else! All the employees are kind and enjoy chatting- knowing some spanish isn't necessary but it is very fun being a gringa that can converse with them in spanish :) We had a swim up suit, not in the preferred area and we very much recommend that style room. The preferred wasn't needed because our room and pool were so beautiful and amazing. The pool stretches across maybe 6 rooms? And only a few times were there people in the pool at the same time that we were because there are so many things to do and see in this resort. We didn't venture out of the resort at all and we never ran out of things we wanted to do. Go to the silent discos- soooo fun!!! Please tip the employees! They don't pressure you to at all but they really appreciate it and they deserve to be tipped because they're so kind and helpful. A dollar or two goes a long way as a thank you for their service. The coco cafe is the 24 hour coffee shop with speciality desserts that rotate nightly and they always have little sandwiches as well. It's next to the resort's lobby. It was a favorite of ours and we visited once or twice daily. The buffet ! Omg ! SO GOOD!!! We were shocked that it was as good as it was and honestly wished we had done lunch more than the twice that we did there. They cooked seafood and steaks in front of you and only when you ordered it. It cannot get more fresh than that. The servers at the buffet were attentive and bring mimosas, wine, juice, coffe etc. The last thing to say is the concierge for the building we were in, Eli was lovely. He called to introduce himself after we had been there for a few days because we hadn't needed him. We were in building 12- right next to the restaurants, so perfect because I'm always looking for my next meal. They also use a little tractor to remove seaweed from the beach throughout the day. Most beautiful beach I've ever been to. We would love to come back and we highly recommend this resort.

Yelp
Horrible experience dealing with this resort. I booked their Aphrodite Romantic Dinner on the Beach with their reservations dept to celebrate an engagement which required a $400 deposit. However it rained every night during our stay and we were unable to have the dinner. We spoke with our concierge Roger and got in contact with Noemi in reservations who booked the dinner who both confirmed we would get the $400 refunded to my credit card. Noemi stated it would take 7-10 business days for the refund. It's now weeks later and still no refund and credit card company stated they show no refund process ever being initiated. Every time I contact Secrets I'm being given the run around and told to wait longer. There are MUCH better resorts in Cancun and PDC with much better service. If you value your time and money I would avoid Secrets at all costs

Yelp
We have stayed at a Secrets property before (Dominican Republic) and liked the all-inclusive feature of the resort. I will say that while this is called Secrets "Cancun" it is really a good 30-40 minutes away from the hotel strip in Cancun - which is a good thing! Much quieter, more relaxed and enjoyable! Also something to keep in mind if you plan to spend time in that downtown Cancun area as it is a drive. Travelers should note that this is off the main road - meaning there is no huge "SECRETS" sign as you pull in. We were pretty concerned when our driver started heading down what appeared to be a sketchy road with no large resort sign. There are a few resorts off that road and only a small sign to the right of the security checkpoint detailing the properties that are at the end of the road. Hopefully this saves someone some anxiety! There is a further checkpoint when you get down the road (probably 2 miles) for Secrets. Check in was easy and our room was ready on time. The room (Oceanview) looked exactly like the picture and was clean. The resort itself is lovely - I cannot say enough good things about the staff that we interacted with! Daniella (beach volleyball) was very nice to talk to and there was a staff member who taught the tortilla making class that was very nice as well. You can have a nice resort but if the staff is not nice, it makes all the difference. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff we interacted with for a wonderful experience! There was a lady playing the violin at breakfast and the buffet selection was amazing! The property has 2 smaller hot tubs and a larger pool area, plus the oceanfront. The room was comfortable and well appointed. We had an issue with the shower not draining but they had someone there within 15 minutes of reporting it to fix it. Other people on here have had negative things to say about the restaurants but we found them to be wonderful! I think the French restaurant was one of the best dinners I have had in years! The Mexican and Hibachi (must be booked in advance, so note to make reservations) were also great. The only one that we thought was mediocre was surprisingly the Italian food. The buffet options for breakfast were all wonderful. There was literally nothing that we could have thought of to ask for that they didn't have! One tip I will give to travelers is to not trust the AMR app. The app is nice in that you can order room service from your phone and it (supposed to) give you restaurant opening times / menus. The one issue that we had was we had come home from a long day at Xcaret (7AM-6PM) and just wanted to go to the buffet and eat. The buffet was listed as "open" on their website, but it was closed in lieu of some buffet they were having by the pool. I went to the front desk and they said that the buffet was indeed closed (not sure how I or any guest was supposed to know that) and to go to the buffet by the pool. We went to the one by the pool and they said that we needed reservations (extra cost dinner) and room service had an hour wait (as did the restaurants). I emailed the Chief Concierge to just let him/her know that they may want to communicate hours of operation with guests but they never bothered to get back to me. Not really great service for a $600/night resort on that particular issue - but other than that, we truly enjoyed our time here. We felt safe, comfortable and would not hesitate to return!

Yelp
It all depends on what kind of travel experience you are looking for. Secret's Maroma is very beautiful, and clean. The food is better than average especially considering it's an all inclusive resort. Some would call the vibe chill but I would call it subdued and a little boring. If you want to relax then this is a very quiet intimate experience. If you want to have a lot of fun I would recommend you go some where else.

Yelp
Don't walk but run to Secrets Maroma. Everything about this place is nothing short of amazing. Cleanliness, impeccable staff & hospitality was nothing short of perfection. The restaurants are extraordinary whether it be the French restaurant Bordeaux with the finest waiter Raul who took such great care of us as well the Asian or Mexican restaurants among others, this all inclusive gem has been nothing short of fantastic. What an amazing vacation!

Yelp
An amazing resort. My husband and I just got home from our third vacation at SMB. We stayed over Superbowl weekend and got to have our Valentine's there as well. The ocean was really choppy so not much for swimming and lots of seaweed on the beach but the resort was diligent about clearing it so guests could enjoy a beach walk. I mean, it's the ocean, not much anyone can do, right? :) The service, immaculate. The food, amazing. Not a bad meal and not a single unfriendly person on site. Another favorite feature of mine is the size of the resort. Big enough to feel spread out from each other but small enough where you don't mind walking from place to place. There's about 100 reasons why we keep going back and we recommend this resort to all of our friends and family members.

Yelp
Beautiful property and good service. Unfortunately, food was subpar relative to similar resorts - and deteriorated significantly between 2019 and 2023. Worst of all, 4 of our party of 6 got sick while at the secrets this time. This was unbelievable because in 2019 we travelled to secrets Maroma with a party of 4 and all of us got sick that time too. We've travelled to various all inclusive resorts in Mexico on over 30 trips, this is the only resort at which we've ever gotten sick. It seems more than coincidence that it's only happened at secrets Maroma (both times to most of our party). After the first time, we thought it was a fluke, and decided to give them another try. However, after this most recent experience, I now think the resort may have an issue with food and/or water. We won't be going again.

Yelp
When I planned for our July 2021 trip, I scoured reviews online about Secrets Maroma Beach and mostly read glowing reviews about specific staff members. I didn't find that as helpful for planning my trip, but now that I've been, I understand why previous visitors did that. Secrets Maroma Beach excels at service! They must have been trained by Chick-fil-A because every response is "it's my pleasure." This resort is gorgeous. The landscaping, the pools, the beach -- all stunning. And all very, very clean. PROS: Stellar service from all staff members. A concierge for each building offering personalized service. Seven restaurants and a coffee shop and separate bar. Large and well-appointed room with oversized bathroom, jetted tub and private, well-ventilated toilet. Lots of storage. In-room safe. Incredibly comfortable beds (and I'm picky!!). Golf-sized umbrellas available everywhere if it rains. Nightly shows. Daily entertainment. Swim-up bar in the activity pool. Infinity pool with beach view. Lots of chairs and towels. Elevators in all the buildings. On-site spa (but we didn't use it). CONS: The beach is very smelly in sargassum season, even though a tractor clears it constantly. Not the resort's fault, though. Snorkeling is implied on the website as included, but it's not. It's extra through an on-site vendor and the reef is being restored and doesn't have much going on. The food is nicely presented but it's mediocre. If you are a foodie, you will be disappointed--especially if you like Mexican food. The house wine is pretty poor and there is a huge markup on bottles of wine. PRO TIPS: - Bring extra hangars. - Bring non-skid shoes because the floors are marble-like and slippery when wet both inside and out. - Pack floats for the pool. We did that and were approached numerous times by envious fellow vacationers wanting to know where we got them at the resort. The infinity pool is ideal for floating lazily with a drink in hand. Having an ocean view wasn't really worth it in this U-shaped resort because you really don't see much of it due to the trees. If you sleep lightly, you may want to pay less for an outside room facing the resort grounds, rather than an inside room facing the water and all the things that make noise. We asked for and received a top-floor ocean view room (there are four floors in each building) so we could see a little of the ocean. But the nightly shows and bar music also reverberate within that space, so keep that in mind if you are sound-sensitive. That said, I'm sound-sensitive and I still slept extremely well with some earplugs. We did not do the Preferred Club, but depending on the price, we all agreed it would be worth considering the next time. The Preferred Club guests get their own oceanside breakfast area, have their own bar/restaurant right on the beach with a fire pit area, get better liquor at their club, get snacks in their rooms, and have the cleanest bathroom just off their private part of the beach. It's also a lot calmer in the Preferred Club area, so if you like a more low-key vacation, it might be worth it. Finally, it's impressive to see the resort's commitment to safety in a global pandemic. All the staff wear masks all the time, even when leading games in the pool. My concierge told me that the staff gets tested every 15 days for COVID. And the COVID test required to return to the U.S. was fairly efficient and easy to do. Would I recommend a trip to Secrets Maroma Beach? Definitely! It's beautiful, relaxing, and offers stellar service. Just adjust your expectations for food and you'll have a great time!

Yelp
My fiance and I, in desparate need of a quick getaway, chose Secrets Maroma beach near Playa Del Carmen due to reviews citing a beautiful beach, relaxing atmosphere, and above average food. While we enjoyed our short stay here, I can't imagine doing more than 3-4 nights here and probably won't return to this resort or another Secrets brand all inclusive. Property: The grounds of the hotel are well manicured and lush. Everything was clean and I never saw litter or dirty plates anywhere. Wildlife like coatis and lizards roam the property freely but never bothered us. There are plenty of spots to sit down and take a nice picture or enjoy a drink throughout the many areas. The beach suffers from a ton of sargassum seaweed that is cleaned regularly on weekdays but not on weekends. Other than the seaweed, the water is clear and the sand is soft. Plenty of loungers and palapa are available. Drinks: Inconsistent and terribly watered down. The only time I felt a buzz was when drinking beer, which should tell you something. We did enjoy the cocktails brought to us by the beach, as they seemed to be made with fresher ingredients and tasted a little more balanced. The drinks at the lobby bar were particularly egregious and tended to taste cloyingly sweet with minimal booze. Food: We initially were skeptical of the quality of the food, but we honestly never had a bad meal. We stuck to predominantly Mexican food throughout our stay and most dishes tasted good. Highlights of our meal included made to order huaraches with fresh masa at breakfast, charcoal roasted whole local fish at the poolside grill, our meals at El Patio, and the multiple moles at lunch. We also enjoyed the main dishes at Himitsu, but the sushi was so so. We didn't try the French or Italian options since we wanted to eat as much Mexican food as possible. One negative was that the breakfast options didn't change at all the 3 days we were there, so you may get bored. Rooms: We paid for an ocean view room and our view was a joke. We barely saw any water and mostly just saw the resort. If you want a true ocean view you have to pay for a preferred club room. Besides the disappointing view, the room itself was well appointed with a good shower/tub, comfortable bed, and cute furnishings. We wished the room came equipped with tea bags (it only had an espresso machine) and liquor dispensers (only beers and soft drinks) as is the case at other all inclusives. Service: Unlike other folks, we never felt pressured to get upsold and found the service overall to be great. We pretty much got whatever we asked for and the waitstaff here works hard. Servers by the beach were particularly good. COVID testing was also a breeze and allowed for peace of mind. Overall, it seems like this resort markets itself as a five star, luxury experience. We feel that it overall was more of a 3.5-4 in terms of amenities, food, and drink. There truly isn't that much to do other than beach and pool unless you drop a load of money on spa services and excursions. With that in mind, we likely won't return to this specific resort or to another Secrets property, even if all we want to do is relax and eat/drink.

Yelp
Worth the money..if I'm thinking like a general all inclusive patron I would say yes you get everything you pay for and a little more. Shows were nice and the food was definitely full portions. Beach views are great as well!!

Yelp
There are many many choices of resorts on the Riviera Maya and sadly, Secrets did not meet my expectations. On the plus side, the beach is beautiful, the grounds are amazing and decor very nice. The food was good with the highlight being the mexican station at the buffet. Poolside grill was also quite good. We ate at the Italian, Mexican, Japanese with mixed results, each dish was hit or miss. We were disappointed by the aggressive and confusing upsell and difficult to use "resort credit" coupons which can only be used on bottles of wine or the spa. The front desk area was consistent in the staff's lack of helpfulness, inability to communicate with each other. Staff called our room 4 times to "check in on us" and then try to sell us romantic dinners, spa, excursions, etc and finally I told them to stop intruding on our vacation and not call us. I think our wifi was bugged because they somehow called about the excursions as I was online looking at them? Everything "nice" costs extra. Want a day bed by the pool or beach? Extra. Bottle of wine at dinner? Extra. Taste a premium tequila at the restaurant? Extra. Dinner on the beach? Extra (and not cheap). These extras can add up fast and cost as much as an extra night or two. During CoVid - be aware that if you test positive (or do not get results in time) they will not make any accommodation vs other resorts that are assisting with quarantine lodging.

Yelp
I recently returned from an eight day stay at Secrets. I didn't know what to expect with an all inclusive but I definitely didn't want to leave. As others mention, the check in and check out process is overly complicated, esp if you're preferred club as they make you go through extra steps to check out. As long as you don't fall for the timeshare pitch and end that spiel ASAP, your check in experience should be more pleasant Besides the check in/ out process, service was excellent! I've never been to a resort with more friendly employees. Room cleaning was impeccable. The staff really goes above and beyond to try to make your stay comfortable. No complaints about the stocking of our fridge with drinks and snacks. The resort itself is beautiful. Our room in building 25 on the top floor was also stunning! We had an excellent view of the water and the main pool. Since the pool closes around 6, it was never noisy despite our location. The outdoor soaking tub was awesome! I'm definitely glad we picked this option instead of the swim out pool option. We could easily watch the sunset from our balcony and tub. The beach was beautiful. We reserved a cabana ($50) for a number of the days we were there and it was well worth the price! Although there was plenty of beach and pool seating available, having the guaranteed private space, shade, and your own server was really nice. We reserved the cabana almost a month before our trip, so I'd recommend not waiting til you get to the resort to rent one. Tips are appreciated. Most people I saw were tipping. Overall the food quality was very good. No, this isn't some fancy steakhouse level of food, so if you're expecting that you should adjust those expectations. We ate at the majority of restaurants and we ate pretty exclusively at the resort during our stay. I loved the world buffet for breakfast. The French toast, chilaquiles, and variety of pastries were my favorite things. The croissants were bomb! There was a variety of healthy and unhealthy options. For lunch, the barefoot grill and food at the pool/beach were our go-tos. Barefoot Grill has great burgers, fries, and burritos, bacon wrapped hot dogs and nachos. For the pool/cabana food, the nachos and the quesadillas were delicious. For dinner, Himitsu was my favorite! We tried two types of egg rolls, tom yum soup, miso soup, Pad Thai, and chop suey. The portions here were good sizes. The fried ice cream is worth getting and one of the bigger desserts you'll find at Secrets. We went here twice. I also enjoyed El Patio which had great "fancy" Mexican food. The sopes I had were excellent. The portions here were pretty big as well. Also had an impressive selection of tequilas to choose from (for an extra cost) including don Julio real. I enjoyed most of what I ate at Portofino except for my gnocchi which was very hard and very small in portion size. My husband did not like this place. In all fairness, his entree consisted of only four tortellini. We had a hot cheese appetizer was which good but not very Italian. The tiramisu I had didn't taste like tiramisu at all. Service also was the most spotty here. Bordeaux was not authentic. My biggest food complaint was probably the desserts. They were SO SMALL. We got ice cream one time that was literally the size of a spoonful. As someone with a major sweet tooth, this was disappointing. I am not a heavy hard alcohol drinker at all. I'm really a lightweight. But even I noticed that the mixed drinks at Secrets are very weak. If you are someone who really cares about alcohol, this might bother you. I didn't mind sipping on weak cocktails since I was drinking most of the day, but even I started ordering my margaritas with double shots. Even then I don't really think I was getting two shots worth. Wine and beer or straight shots (as I saw lots drinking) might be your best option if you want strong drinks. The preferred club does have a better selection of alcohol (including champagne) and the drinks are made a little more stiff. There is food available the entire day but it's small and snack type stuff. We tried the "hydrotherapy" at the spa since it was complimentary with our preferred club room. It was ridiculous. Basically, an employee escorts you through the various pools, saunas, showers (one of which requires you to fill a bucket over your head with cold water and then pull a lever so it dumps all over you), and steam rooms where you are instructed to stay for a certain period of time only before you are then told to move onto the next "station." At one point you got in the pool a laid on some metal bars while there were bubbles/massaging. I don't know here they came up with this shit, honestly. I'm pretty sure even the employees thought we looked dumb. This was not relaxing, although my husband and I got a good laugh about it. I would return to Secrets because the hotel, rooms, and water are stunning, and the service is exceptional.

Yelp
This very nice hotel has fraudulent practices from the sales team. They will sell you a package and never give you what they promised. But every week via email will charge you for the fraud they sell. They'll call you endlessly. Run away from purchasing any vacation package from this resort. If I could give a federal lawsuit I would. But these people are protected by money and can retaliate at any time. Be aware of going to Mexico and giving the information they ask for.

Yelp
So, here we are in Secrets Maroma Beach. Got in late last night. Wanted a bowl of Poblano soup. We went to one of the great restaurants here. We asked if they had poblano soup and they said sadly no. The waiter asked the chef about it and he said give me 20 minutes. He made the best poblani soup I ever had. Can't believe he did that for us. The chef's name is Medel. Will post more reviews later.

Yelp
I wish I could leave more stars because the place itself was 5, but the scheme of it all brought it down for us. We visited for our anniversary and joined 3 other couples. We were all equally harassed every other morning at 9am in our room by way of telephone to, "come pick up your resort coupon book in the lobby." Personally for us we had spent a good amount on the all-inclusive experience so no, "coupon," was enticing at that point and if we wanted to do something while there, we'd just do it. No mind that sleeping in might have been on our list of things we wanted to do, it NEVER happened. At 7am every morning there was furniture being moved it sounded like, chatter, trays, carts, who knows what. Extremely disappointing for us. We happened to be there over the new year and of course, they offered a $600/couple upgrade for a dinner and show. No mind what we just spent to be on the resort for the, "all-inclusive." We opted out and still found plenty of things to do for 8 of us. The food was just average and nothing we couldn't enjoy back home. The housekeeping quite literally cracked us up each time they came, (when they actually did,) because random things would be taken from the room. Luckily not our things but there was at one point a fluffy bath mat and suddenly one day it was gone, with nothing in it's place. They never once cleaned our floor and we had a swim-up room so you can imagine the footprints. All of our friends got a box of chocolates delivered to their rooms, but we didn't? One day 3 random vanity kits arrived, without request. Random! Our coffee or beer was never restocked. We requested a call to the concierge to do so and never got one. We did though have a wonderful experience in the hotel lobby with a young woman named, Paulina, who was always there to happily greet our group. We also encountered well made, excellent drinks from Sergio, who we found at a couple different bars throughout the resort while there. The entertainment part was spot on and we always found something to do. Otherwise to be completely honest, we'll more than likely give another 5-star resort another chance next time but are glad we got this one out of the way and are able to share with others.

Yelp
my husband and I visited Secrets Maroma to celebrate our anniversary. It was a wonderful experience. We enjoyed all of the restaurants and amenities at Secrets. I would like to say a special thank you to Alexis Noriega for ensuring that all of our restaurant experiences were exceptional. Paula from the preferred client desk was helpful, pleasant and an essential.part of why our trip was so wonderful. I would like to acknowledge Paola the concierge personnel at building 17. She made our entire stay at Secrets very special and personal. She was thoughtful and generous to us with her time and attention to ensure our overall satisfaction and happiness. all of these people were exceptional

Yelp
This was my first trip to Mexico and mind you I have never stayed at an all inclusive resort. Visit the resort in October for a week, which in my opinion is a long trip. We were greeted at the hotel and were quickly checked in, just after we were lead to start lunch at the buffet which was nice. The awkward part was after, the room wasn't done so they allowed us to change in the public bathroom off of the check in area...hmmm. Regardless the rooms itself are amazing. Large, comfortable and clean. I loved the oversized shower and the amazing patio area as well. As far as the resort it's quite large with lots of amenities. The pool got crowded quickly unless you held a spot in the morning which was a major bummer. The food? 2 stars, we ate at almost all of the restaurants and the two close to the pool were the best for my taste. I'll be honest the Asian inspired was horrible as was the French inspired. The poolside food was meh as well, lots of American choices (french fries, burgers), I mean come on, were in Mexico. Best part was the location, there isn't a resort next to this location yet so it's very calm and peaceful while in your rooms. Also the staff was great, super friendly and attentive which always makes everything better. Not sure if I would come back here, I'd probably want to explore another resort and have something to compare this Secrets too.

Yelp
I was there for 7 days 6 nights. security checkpoints near the entrance made me feel safe. upon reaching the front door 3 guys came to the door of the taxi to help me out, take my bags, and offer me water. they greeted me by name and escorted me in. at the lobby I was offered champagne as I sat down and they checked me in. no shake down, no sales, no pressure to reserve a trip somewhere. and the stay only got better. check in took 3 minutes as they took my bags to my room and later someone escorted me too my room and briefly pointed out a few key landmarks in the hotel on the way to the room. I could go on and on, but the level of service was impeccable, flawless, and they were no rules that seemed unreasonable or arbitrary. the activities were so silly that they were a blast. STRONGEST RECOMMENDATION POSSIBLE

Yelp
We spent a week here during Spring Break 2021 during COVID precautions, so the hours of the restaurants and numbers of activities may have been modified somewhat from their normal state. The staff wore their masks all the time and they were constantly sanitizing and cleaning everything approipriately. The hotel also made our COVID testing for our return flight to the US easy and hassle free. Overall (TLDR): Our stay at Secrets Maroma was top notch. Arrival and check in was easy and welcoming even though we arrived at 10:45pm. The room was spacious, well-appointed, and comfortable. The staff was very friendly, helpful, and accommodating with most every request we had. We really enjoyed the grounds, and the beach was as lovely as everyone said. Our meals were at worst average and many times surprisingly good - even occasionally imaginative. Secrets Maroma ended up being one of our favorite vacations in recent memory. The Good: We love good food and eat mainly vegetarian/clean food. We were always able to find something that not only sounded good but also usually exceeded our expectations for food prepared at an all inclusive resort. We probably ate more meat in one week there than in the previous several months at home, but it was all very good. The staff was (almost see "mediocre" below) all very friendly and helpful without being obtrusive. Our Concierge, Esther, was great. She helped us fix the several small issues that came up with the room (remote not working, etc.) and helped us make our reservations for restaurants and our COVID test. Edgar, the manager of the Beachfront Steakhouse, was so great to us the whole time we were there. He really made our experience so very special. Lastly, Antonio at the lobby bar makes the best Tequila Royale you could ask for. The grounds are beautiful and the pools and beach are spectacular. Our room was comfy and our mattress was perfect for us. The massage we had at the spa, while expensive, was one of the better massages we have ever had. Great deep tissue work. The Bad: Nothing here was bad at all. The Mediocre: Some of the pasta we had was more of a Mexicanized version than the original (oaxaca instead of mozzarella, etc..) which wasn't the end of the world, just a little odd for someone used to regional Italian food. I did notice that there was often some discarded cups or napkins along some of the pathways that was not cleaned up over several days while we were there. It detracted from the beauty of the area but didn't spoil it. A few of the servers we had - specifically at the fire show dinner - were not very polished or friendly. They were really the exception to the rule. The Story: During our stay, we ate at every restaurant on the property. Only the Japanese restaurant, Himitsu, required reservations and that was to sit at the teppanyaki table. Otherwise it you just showed up at the restaurant unless you wanted to use one of the "special tables" - each restaurant had a table located away from the other tables where you could eat usually requiring the purchase of a bottle of wine. We never had much of a wait. The Buffet was open for breakfast and lunch. The food there was well prepared and often surprisingly good. There was a different theme every lunch - our favorite was Asain. One night the resort had a "Fire Show" set up outside with "special dinner" tables for couples (requiring the purchase of a bottle of wine or tequila). The show was decent, but the dinner was a little lackluster. It was steak and lobster with mashed potatoes and vegetables. Although prepared well, it felt like any number of wedding meals we have had in the states. The next night, we had a great experience when we went to the poolside steakhouse. We were waiting in line when they sat us at one of the 4 two-person tables by the pool thsat were positioned away from the main dining area and facing the beach. It was very intimate and relaxing. So much so that I chose that evening to propose to my then girlfriend. The manager of the restaurant who had given us the table originally was kind enough to video it for me. He then made us promise to come back a couple days later for their "international menu". We didn't think much about it at the time, but when that day rolled around, boy did we have a surprise waiting for us! Edgar had put us at their special gazebo table for a beautiful and intimate dinner to celebrate our engagement. How thoughtful and unexpected was that!

Yelp
Likes: pool was warm & big. Our concierge was nice. The drinks were good. WiFi was strong. The fact that it's adults only is nice. So many activity options. The sunglass cleaner guy with the refreshing scented towels were a nice treat. Sugar reef sports bar was fun. Room was large & updated. Balcony was nice. The sofa on balcony was comfy. Dislikes: Couldn't see the beach from the pool unless you're in one small area. Some days the beach wasn't cleaned & not usable due to seaweed- I think they do their best w/ that. Housekeeping was hit or miss if they came by to clean. Room service food sat for 2 days usually. Food: Breakfast was buffet only. It was very busy- with a long wait for most stations & also it was super hot in that building. Many items had no flavor. Other than Himitsu, we struggled with food. Even had cleanliness issue w/food one night-- most frustrating part was our server was argumentative when it occurred-but our concierge tried to make it up to us + food/Bev person called the next day to hear what happened, which was nice. Room service took 60-75 minutes standard. We were not told men need to bring pants to eat inside. At dinner, we were asked to put a mask on OUTSIDE to move 2 feet max to an OUTDOOR table. First, there's no logic there. Second, we didn't bring our mask since we knew we'd be outside. Wouldn't have been a huge issue to wear one-- but we were given a lot of attitude by the hostess for having to be given one after we spent thousands to stay here. Communication: lacking in some areas. No one showed us where things were in our room or went over the resort details. We went to the front desk to ask for items/ help & they directed us back to our concierge who on our first day wasn't there so it was frustrating they couldn't help us at the desk with basic questions. Not a great first impression. Tips for other travelers: bring a pool float. Bring earplugs- walls are thin- we struggled to sleep. Bring $ in smaller bills for tips. The COVID tests were unavailable on Fri(& we had a Thur excursion booked) so call them to verify it's avail when you need it. Reco's for hotel to make things better: offer more alcohol choices- some basic things were unavailable. Provide info to guests upon check in. Increase food options, especially for breakfast (like a sit down option). Also more choices for poolside tacos would have been nice. Items like wraps, & sandwiches would have been nice for picky eaters or just to eat lighter some days. Offer more options for quicker food after 6pm. Dine in restaurants took 1.5-2 hours most nights. Offer order ahead room service for breakfast (we had early excursions). Replenish pool towels around 2-4pm- there never were any at this time. Shout outs to staff that gave great service: Luis at Himitsu was so nice, Louis at hibatchi was great. Yari with the activities team was so nice & genuine!! She remembered our names. Victor was an amazing pool drink person. Alejandra at front desk was very caring when we had an issue, giving me her cell #. Overall: we decided we probably wouldn't return here specifically because the food got old really fast. We've been to other resorts that were half the cost w/better food options. Also, service was too hit & miss for cost.

Yelp
I stayed at Secrets Maroma Beach for a week with my husband the first week of July for our anniversary. I have visited Cancun many times before and I have stayed at nice $$$ hotels. I really wanted to love Secrets, and because of the 5 diamond I was really excited and expecting a lot more than what they offer. If you really want an overall great great great experience I suggest to stay at Xcaret or Atelier playa mujeres; trust me, your money won't feel like wasted compared to here at Secrets. I'm Mexican, so I really know what is authentic Mexican food... you won't find it in here, not even the authentic Mexican desserts taste good (for example: the churros de azucar, tres leches, etc). The buffet is the worst one I have tried in my life, the chilaquiles are like purée, super nasty, whoever is in charge for the breakfast buffet, please do something about it, the quality is just embarrassing. If it wasn't for the staff, the Himitsu restaurant (one of the best sushi I have tried in my life), and the Steak House called Seaside Grill, I would have hated my experience at Secrets. Chef Miguel is the one in charge for the steak house, a BIG thanks to him, I wish they could photocopy him to be in charge for all the other restaurants for Secrets. His food quality was amazing, you can instantly tell chef Miguel knows what he is doing. I went twice to the steak house, once when they were super busy and the other when they were not, but that didn't matter, even the day they were busy the food was the same great quality, and they didn't take long to serve you compared to other restaurants at Secrets, the steak house team really knows what they are doing, big thanks to chef Miguel and to that team, they do deserve the 5 diamond; their desserts are amazing as well! Like I said, my expectations were high with the food because of the 5 diamond; I'm not trying to sound mean or snooty, but I have tried food from Chef Enrique Olvera, chef Carlos Gaytan, chef Edgar Núñez and more, so trust me, I can tell when the food is good quality and authentic Mexican, that is why my expectations with their "5 diamond" were high, and I still believe this hotel doesn't deserve the 5 diamond until they do something about it with the OTHER restaurants in their authenticity and quality of food. *There's this small "club" inside Secrets called Desires... the dj plays old music (I'm not blaming the dj, I'm sure he is told by his superiors to played a specific playlist); also the playlist by the pool area is the same old music, I really don't understand, many couples want to have a good time, and we cannot even listen to a good playlist (I'm not even complaining about how loud is it, I understand some couples preferred to be reading or sleeping, but just a good modern up to date music PLEASE!) By the way, it's not the dj's fault their audio system doesn't work well, this hotel makes a lot of money, so please provide a better audio system whoever is in charge, so embarrassing every time I was at desires, the music stops every 15min. *The cabanas cost $100 or more here in Secrets and you have to reserved it a day before because you won't find one available the same day (FYI: cabanas at Atelier hotel are free and they do have a lot of them!) *The bed and pillows are comfortable. *The staff is GREAT, I know they work super hard every single day, the cleaning ladies, the beach and pool staff, bartenders (guests: please don't forget to tip the bartenders), so thank you to all of you for that and the hard work. Thank you to the concierge Aidee, she's the sweetest and hard worker, she was able to gave us a complimentary late check out and we really appreciate that. *The beach is beautiful and they are always cleaning it. *Would I like to come back? No. The staff, Chef Miguel, and the Himitsu chef are the only ones saving this hotel to be honest. "We payed a 5 diamond hotel, so we expected an overall 5 star".

Yelp
Extremely friendly staff, secluded, very "chill" music played in all common pool areas. It's not necessarily romantic only or party only. It was lots of families with older kids or couples who cake with friends. It seemed like half of the people coming (4th of July week) were there to party with friends and the other half were romantic focused. They don't allow drinking before 10am (except at restaurants). They have playboy on the TVs and a sex show one night of the week... :/ All of the food was great! 25 bucks to taxi to playa del Carmen. Hobie cat rides are only 30 minutes/day if you take them yourself. They make little effort to clean up the seaweed. They plow it into piles on beach and you still have to wade through it. There are no rules at the private swim up pools so if you have party neighbors then your pool becomes a hot spot for other hotel guests.

Yelp
My husband and I travel to Cancún for a week without kids. We spent the first three nights at this hotel due to a wedding. The hotel is gorgeous. We did club level so we were taken to a smaller check in area and got right to our room. The rooms are nice and big with outdoor tubs. I was very impressed with the rooms. We had an ocean front room and the views were amazing. The hotel is in a remote area surrounded by forest. The food was good as well. I like the outdoor eating options. I love eating outside when in paradise. I was underwhelmed with a few of the places and options but nothing too bad. If you didn't like the menu at one place, you can move on to someplace else. The pool was more of a party vibe. A lot of larger groups and they hosted games and events throughout the day. For a relaxing trip, I was not a fan of it. The beach was a little disappointing. Half the chairs were broken and kind of tossed all over the place. I love spending most my time at the beach over pool and it just was not that relaxing. Another people is the noise outside. So much hall noise and I have no clue as to why. You ca hear everyone's door open then slam shut.

Yelp
Welcome home. This is the best greeting ever! By every staff member on our first day in Paradise! The champagne at check in wasn't too shabby either. We celebrated our 20th anniversary at this luxury all inclusive resort for the week. They noted our celebration with a sign on our door, as well as a champagne breakfast in bed for whatever day we chose. The beach is one of the best I have ever been to. The soft cool white sand with the blue Caribbean Sea is why they get awarded top beach every year. I lived in Florida for years and it tops every beach there by far. Hawaii twice and still better. Turks and Caicos has beautiful beaches as well but give me Maroma Beach. I was told that they have a seasonal seaweed problem but we lucked out as it was all gone the week we were there. They clean any debris off the beach daily. Our room was in building 24, a Junior Suite with partial ocean views. With a jacuzzi and balcony and a very comfy bed. The most ingenious secret box and do not disturb button were most useful. You put in dirty dishes or empty bottles, close the box and they magically disappear. I want to install one at my house! You can order any kind of service via an iPad anytime of day or night and your wish comes true. 24 hour room service which we used a few times during our stay. After a 45 min wait or sooner, your items come either by secret box if you have do not disturb or by doorbell. Our concierge was Roberto and I also wanted to bring him home with me as he went over and above every time we saw him. He actually called me the day after we left just to see how we were. Who does that? From the entertainment staff to the waitstaff, including the bar service on the beach and at the pool, all are professional and extremely friendly and helpful. Wilberth was my go to bar server on the beach. He is awesome. Manuel was my favorite bartender at the sports bar. You can be as active as you want with daily activities such as beach volleyball, hobie cats, kayaking, tennis, bike riding or drink and eat and walk along the beach. They even have an app for your phone with everything you need to know. WiFi throughout the resort works great. Every night we were there, there was a nightly show. The cirque show and Beatles, Get back were my favorites. One night they even had casino games with fake money. I had 0 complaints the entire week, until I had to leave. We tried all the restaurants and yes, some were hit or miss but for the most part I enjoyed them all. Only one you have to reserve is Teppanyaki at Himitsu, the Pan Asian cuisine. It's well worth it! We mostly ate breakfast at the InternationalWorld buffet with a wide range of all kinds of breakfast foods. They had smoked salmon every day as well as made to order omelet and fresh fruits. The French cuisine at Bordeaux's was quite good with a memorable lobster Thermidor. El Patio had the best vegetarian flautas and yummy tomato based soup. Portofinos had great pastas and very delicious risotto. My main course was undercooked Salmon but I was pretty stuffed from all the other courses anyway. We really enjoyed our lunches at the Seaside Grille. Oddly, the guacamole was on the bland side, but they have hot sauces you can spice it up with. Can't understand how anyone would give this place less than 5 stars. Some people just can't be satisfied no matter what. I would go back here in a NY minute! There was a huge diversity among other guests, all ages except no kids as it is adults only. Lots of countries represented. I miss you Secrets, but I'll be back!

Yelp
We have traveled to Mexico for several years and we love the beaches along the Gulf coast, especially the stretch several north and south of Playa del Carmen. Secrets Maroma Beach remains one of the best. This was our third time here. We were booked to go last year, but, well it was 2020. First, I want to thank everyone there. Staff here, as well as other resorts, have always been gracious and accommodating. Now, even more so. Remember that the entire area is very dependent on tourism, and were very devastated by the last 12 months. I cannot remember the number of times we were told how happy to have us and all tourists back, and this was a genuine heartfelt expression. Rooms are spacious and clean. Nothing feels outdated. Concierge service was impressive. Nice pool, but we go for the beach. Beautiful soft white sand and clear turquoise water. Just what we came for! Great service on the beach and all the bars and restaurants. Food is truly special and we had many wonderful meals. Try a huarache at breakfast. Many days at lunch there were tacos. Really good tacos. I mean street vender style. Fresh made tortillas. Pollo, carne, puerco and chorizo. Guacamole is the best I've ever had. Fresh avocado and the best limes anywhere. Add salt and that's it. Amazing what really fresh produce and fruit taste like. Hard to pick out the best meal, but I had wonderful red snapper one evening. Cannot wait until next year. Special thanks to Roberto Canul, our concierge. He went above and beyond to do whatever he could make our stay awesome. Also, I wish to thank Eleazar our housekeeper for a spotless room. Carlos and Julio made our time on the beach special. But my most sincere gratitude goes to Freddy in the World Cafe who has been taking care of us for years. He is truly special. And he is always helping my Spanish in a polite, constructive manner. Thanks, Freddy! Almost forgot. Seaweed was minimal this year FYI!

Yelp
Check In: You are welcomed like royalty. Everyone is so eager to take your luggage, give you a fresh towel and glass of wine. The check in process is nice, especially that you can sit down. After you get checked in, someone takes you to another seating area to discuss the property & all the add ons you can do. After that portion, you're escorted to your room where your concierge meets you. Our concierge's name was Mariano, and he was SO friendly! He was not pushy at all, just eager to be of service. He left me a nice chocolate cake when he found out we were celebrating my 30th birthday. He also had a birthday banner on our door when we arrived, which was such a nice & thoughtful touch! The beach is gorgeous! The chairs are very comfortable. The towels are right on the way to the beach, which is nice. You can take as many as you need. Someone was there to help us get our chairs and out our towels down for us and made sure we were comfortable & had everything we needed. The service on the beach is wonderful. I had never been to an all inclusive before. Manuel, Marco & Victor were our waiters on the beach and they were AMAZING!! They are all so friendly, funny & grateful. Manuel even made it a point to tell us that we took great care of him and how much he appreciated us tipping him. They have kayaking, small catamaran, jet ski, snorkel, etc. we paid $35 each for two people to take a boat out with a captain who took us snorkeling. It was cool to have the boat to ourselves, and the snorkel guide was AWESOME!! He was picking up baby stingrays and everything! The pool area is also beautiful. You need to get there early to reserve your spot! "It's a pleasure" is the response you'll get when you say thank you. What a great touch!! Portofino restaurant: by far our favorite. WOW! Every, single thing is amazing. From the extremely nice hostess, incredible wait staff, to every course of food. Oogal, not sure if I spell that correctly. Said like Google without the G. And Felix were our favorite waiters! The bread is to die for. I love olive oil & vinegar with Parmesan cheese for dipping!! The minestrone soul is delicious. The pasta penne, chicken Parmesan and the gnocchi were our top 3 favorite. We loved this place so much we ate there 5 out of the 10 nights. And last but not least, pistachio ice cream is a must!! The ambiance is so romantic. The outdoor eating area overlooked the spa, which is equally as beautiful. Himitsu: this is the Hibachi restaurant. They require reservations to sit at the Hibachi table, but also have open seating in the regular dining area. You are served egg rolls, sushi, choice of soup- I got Miso soup, then you get fried rice, choice of meat and fried vanilla ice cream with caramel sauce. It's a standard menu and your only choice making is for soup & which meat(s) you want. It was very good! Their yum yum sauce is totally different than in the US, and that was the only thing I was bummed about. It almost has a spicy taste to it instead of sweet. Seaside Grill: this is the steak house. I had a ribeye on 2 different nights, and BBQ ribs on another visit. This place is open for lunch from 11-4 and dinner @ 630. It's a great restaurant for a steak or ribs! They have some great side dishes to choose from, including French fries which was surprisingly, refreshing to have! I tried the double chocolate cake one evening and pecan tart another and didn't really care for either. Cons: see the picture from my room.. - "Ocean view" is almost a joke. Wish I would've never paid more for it because you can barely see the ocean. We had much more of a tropical view. My travel agent filed a complaint to try to get a refund for at least partial ocean view price. It's now 2 weeks after my return and the resort refuses to give any kind of refund. Very upset about this! Never pay more for a view that you'll never get to experience here. - House keeping service seemed to always come right when we would get back in from being out of the room from 8a-5pm, which was a little frustrating. - I was caught off guard by putting a $500 hold on a credit card, but understand. Just wish I would've known up front. Overall, myself 30, and my cousin 24, had a blast. It's definitely a romantic resort, but we wanted a resort that wasn't going to be a big party scene and somewhere that was laid back & relaxing. There were plenty of options to have fun and entertainment if chosen to go. We LOVED the fire show and the aquatics show. Those two were AMAZING! We highly recommend going to those two if you don't do anything else the whole time you're there! The checkout process was easy, and our concierge helped arrange our shuttle back to the airport. I'm writing this on the plane & already have a serious case of vacation blues.

Yelp
In summary we spent a long weekend in one of the preferred club Jr suite swim out rooms; we had a great time and it was the best resort we stayed at for this trip. Would potentially return. Pros: -gorgeous semi-secluded location. You could go out on the beach at night and walk towards the South west and not see a single light, thus the sky was bright above. On a moon lit evening the beach glowed. Perfect. -responsive staff, very helpful -nicely appointed room (hint the bottle opener is attached to the cabinet hidden by the fridge) -good selection of restaurants, we tried some variety including non-Mexican food -lots of events and entertainment Cons: -it was a fairly pricey room even when adjusting for food/drinks. Maybe we are just light eaters. -a little bit of pressure for the vacation club, but not too much. -damn slick floor tile in room and at swim out patio, watch your step.

Yelp
I have been to multiple Secrets properties and this one has the best beach and view. The white sand is cool and there is no rocks or reef issues in the water so you don't need water shoes. We had unfortunate timing to be there when there was a large seaweed issue but they did their best to clean it up and control it. Once you swam out a little it was not as bad and the water was clear and warm. With all the buildings set up to form a large U shape you have a partial view of the ocean from most of them. The room itself was spacious and comfortable. We had both a shower and large Jacuzzi bath tub. All the staff were very friendly (I know they have to be but everyone was very pleasant) and we were able to get most things we needed. A couple of nice features to the room was the in room tablet that we could easily order room service or cleaning or a variety of other items from as well as control the TV if needed. There are several large pools and one has a bar inside of it. I am a beach person so I didn't really use the pool but they were clean and well maintained. We never had to wait more than 10 minutes for a table in any of the restaurants and the food was good. Not the best - I think Secrets Capri may edge them out there but still very good. Everything factored in it was worth the price and we would recommend and probably return to this resort.

Yelp
WOW WOW WOW is all that I can say .. I wish there was a 100 star rating! My husband and I just returned yesterday after spending the week at this incredible resort. EVERYTHING from the minute you arrive to the minute you leave, you are treated like royalty. Upon arriving to the airport, we had a shuttle take us to the resort (approx 30 min or so ride) but don't let the scenery on the way discourage you & once you pull into the resort it's a long road to the ACTUAL resort ... again the ride in doesn't look like much but once you pull up? ... heaven!! We were very warmly greeted and given a "welcome drink" upon check in. Our concierge, Oscar was absolutely AMAZING and was sure to check in w/ us daily and inform us of any events happening each day. He even came & found us at the pool to ask if we needed anything. We were also greeted by Reyna who provided us with some vouchers and gave us a run down on any information & was able to answer any questions. Day 2 was breakfast & a presentation on a Vacation Club which we had a Sales Rep named Carli who was an absolute sweetheart & made us feel like we had been friends for years! The presentation included a tour of the resort, a few slides of sister resorts & info on different packages that they offer ... no obligation to purchase & it was nice to see what they have to offer. We absolutely LOVED the service at this resort! They give you tons of privacy but are also just a phone call or text away if needed which was fantastic!! I would strongly recommend downloading "WhatsApp" on your phone as it is heavily used to communicate. The food was great and don't believe what you hear about the water .... we had ice in our drinks and we were fine! Just stay away from the tap water to be safe! While you're walking through or even at the pool, you may see a strange animal walking around which is a Mexican Raccoon (also known as a Coati). It's def weird looking (sorta looks like a raccoon with a monkey tail) but totally harmless as long as you leave them alone. The food was delicious as well ... the Italian restaurant was my fave! Also one "must" is to visit the on-site spa ... absolutely beautiful and so relaxing! There are also tons of activities throughout the day (yoga in the morning, pool/Beach volleyball, water aerobics in the pool, etc). The beach has a lot of seaweed by the water but the sand is beautiful without any rocks/shells. You can also go into the infinity pool which gives a perfect view of the beach. There is a themed show every night and we were impressed with all of them (Rock show/concert, Boogie Nights which was 70's/80's music, and a Fire show .... ALL amazing!) However, keep in mind some of the restaurants have a dress code so be sure to pack some dresses and long pants (for men). If you're looking for a "relaxing" vacation this resort is def the place to go! We CANNOT wait to go back!! Thank you Secrets Maroma Beach and it's entire staff for an AMAZING experience!!
