However, it felt more like a scenic or architectural spot rather than a deeply spiritual place. Overall, the experience was okay — nice for a short visit and a brief stop if you’re nearby, but not a highlight or must-see destination.

Another advantage is its close proximity to Gangaramaya Temple, making it easy to visit both places together. Walking between the two adds to the overall spiritual and cultural experience. Overall, Seema Malaka Temple is a wonderful place for quiet reflection, photography, and understanding Buddhist heritage, and it is highly recommended for anyone visiting Colombo.

Designed by Geoffrey Bawa, the architecture is (unsurprisingly) stunning, minimalist, open, and perfectly framed against the skyline. Unlike the busy temples, the vibe here is quiet and introspective. It’s less about rituals and more about stillness. Just sitting by the wooden railings, feeling the breeze and watching the city reflections in the water, is a spiritual reset. A visually poetic spot to just breathe.

It's a lovely spot to pause, soak in the view, and enjoy the gentle breeze from lake. Perfect for quiet moments and photography.

The temple on the water is beautiful and relaxing, the monks took turns reciting the sacred text in their soothing voices, and although we were there at noon, at the hottest hour, the inside of the temple was cool and the wind was blowing, and we relaxed there for a few minutes. The entrance fee was 500 Sri Lankan rupees per person.

One of the beautiful Buddhist temple in Colombo . Great place to sit and meditate peacefully. With great scenic beauty. Best time to visit is early morning , when there is no crowd.

This is one of the most peaceful places in the city and a spot I always appreciate visiting. The temple sits beautifully over the water and the calm surroundings make you instantly slow down and breathe a little deeper. The design and atmosphere create such a soothing space where you can reflect or simply enjoy the gentle breeze from the lake. Even though it is right in the middle of Colombo it feels like a quiet escape where you can step away from the noise and take a moment for yourself. A truly special place that holds a lot of spiritual and cultural value.
