Stayed in the Seiblishof Hotel as part of a package deal with Crystal Ski Holidays in December 2024.
The hotel is exceptionally clean and the staff were a delight.
The food was varied and good and the staff were very accommodating when it came to my two teenage children, allowing them to eat from a children’s buffet when they didn’t fancy what was on the daily menu.
Our room, a ‘junior family suite’ was spacious and well equipped, with plenty of towels and a towelling robe foe each of the three of us. My daughter (16) had her own ‘seperate’ room which, strangely, had a sliding glass door. I would have thought a solid door would have been a better option.
My only major complaint was drinks at mealtimes. Crystal had thoughtfully informed us prior to our trip that it was ‘normal’ for Austrian hotels to charge for water at mealtimes. So we weren’t unprepared. However, what I wasn’t prepared for was the price…
€7.50 for 75cl.
It wasn’t even chilled. And no ice was made available or offered. I was frightened to ask; if they charged €7.50 for a bottle of still water God knows how much ice would cost.
We didn’t bother asking for tap water as the group at the table next to us did and they were told ‘we don’t serve tap water in the restaurant’.
It was a shame as it put a real downer on our visit to an otherwise very good hotel.
Also, if tap water had been offered I would have been more than open to ordering soft drinks for the kids and perhaps a beer or wine for myself. But as a result of this, frankly extortionate policy, we ended up buying wine, beer and soft drinks from the supermarket and enjoying them in the room as quickly as we could get back to it as soon as we had finished our dinner.
When I settled the bill at check out time I wasn’t surprised to see that I’d spent over €60 on luke warm water I really had no option of not buying. Who would have thought mineral water would leave such a bitter taste in the mouth?
And the ski lockers should be bigger.
As I said previously, the staff were superb. As was the location of the hotel for access to the gondola, bars, restaurants and shops.
The swimming pool was lovely and the saunas were plentiful; thankfully…my kids didn’t expect the broad mindedness of our continental neighbours!
Very good hotel, but I wouldn’t stay there again considering the price we paid to not have water included with dinner. In addition we had to pay €56 in tourist tax. But you can’t blame the hotel for that.
Looks like France or Italy again for us next year. Shame really.
