Seikoro Ryokan (Kyoto Prefecture, Japan) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Situated a short walk from Kyoto’s Kamo River, Seikoro Ryokan would be a fine choice for anyone new to the traditional Japanese style of lodging. Guests enjoy comfortable rooms with traditional tatami flooring and futon bedding which is whisked away in preparation for breakfasts (and later, dinners) served in-room, in the kaiseki style. Ten to fifteen Japanese courses, including broiled and raw fish, rice, pickles and soups, are served with exquisite attention to preparation and detail, bookending days spent visiting the rich cultural sites of Kyoto. Seikoro’s onsen, separated by gender, further imparts the heritage feel of Seikoro’s boutique accommodations, as does its historic architecture, soft lighting, and ikebana." - Tablet Hotels

We stayed in central Tokyo at a 5 star modern hotel for 2 weeks. We then traveled to Kyoto where we arrived late into the night January 2024. We were created by the buy the whole team and the owners who were patiently waiting for us for over 2 hours. We were welcomed and fed and taken well care of. It was very much a beautiful place with a beautiful garden very antique and very much deserving of its title. Tommy was our hospitality host. She taught us in all the traditions as the hotel practiced tradition. She was very keen on our culture, as well as sharing of her Japanese culture. We laughed plenty of times and had fun with everybody there. We would like to return again in the near future sometime this year. If you're looking for something very nostalgic and antique and of true experience this is where you would want to go. They were also able to make reservations for us at our request. Much love Daniel and Rebekah.

a historic traditional Japanese inn in Kyoto, founded in 1831. It offers tatami rooms, futon bedding, seasonal kaiseki meals, and large wooden baths. Located near Kiyomizu-Gojo Station, it’s famous for warm hospitality and an authentic Kyoto atmosphere

Amazing way to finish our stay in Kyoto! Our family only stayed one night, but the attention to detail and service were impeccable. We had the kaiseki dinner and traditional Japanese breakfast and both were so inventive and delicious. We truly felt like we were staying with family - Hiro was so kind and pleasant. Wish we could have stayed longer, highly recommend!

This was the highlight of our trip to Japan! The service was so attentive, food was delicious (include at least one dinner and breakfast in your stay, you won’t regret it!), baths were extremely clean, rooms very spacious and comfortable with a view of a peaceful Japanese garden, and location was perfect to walk along the cherry blossom lined canal. Walking distance to many tourist activities (20 min) to Kiyomizu Temple, Maruyama Park, etc. you can walk to downtown Gion area, and I preferred not being smack dab in the middle of Gion which was very busy and crowded. This was the perfect in between. Wonderful and will come again the next time I am in Kyoto.

I stayed with a partner and a travel friend in March and we had an amazing experience! This place is exactly how I imagined a traditional Japanese inn to be. It has this nice, traditional atmosphere that gives off a cozy and welcoming vibe and the staff are incredible! Seriously, I cannot praise the staff enough. They were professional and super friendly. They were understanding of our limited cultural knowledge and Japanese and walked us through the entire experience. I cannot recall the name of the middle-aged woman who helped faciliate our experience (apologies, truly!) but she had a younger woman with her who was acting as her apprentice, I believe. She was the sweetest person we met on our entire trip in Japan. We were sad to have to say goodbye both her and the rest of the staff! The bath was a huge plus for me, personally, and I was even able to enjoy it completely by myself. Such a relaxing soak that help put me right to sleep afterwards, as if I needed the extra help after the amazing (and very filling) meal we all shared. The dinner alone was worth the visit. The three of us were talking about that meal well after the trip was over and it was definitely a highlight for us Americans who aren't familar or used to many of the dishes provided. I wish we could have stayed a day longer and I hope I can return to this beautiful city again one day. Highly, highly recommend this place to all visitors interested in staying in a traditional inn!

We have had the pleasure of staying here for four nights. The location is great - close to metro, bus stops and restaurants. The hotel is beautiful. It’s very quiet and the rooms are great! The staff is so accommodating and wonderful. Food was amazing. Can’t say enough good things about this hotel.

Seikoro was an incredible experience and a great way to get a taste of traditional Japanese culture. The room, food, and location were all incredible, but I can’t say enough about the staff. They provided the best service we’ve ever had at any hotel. Mei in particular was incredibly helpful and nice. We had a blast in Kyoto and will definitely be back!
