19 Best Things to Do in Bali | Condé Nast Traveler

"If exploring Bali’s paradiscal scenery is a priority, a visit to Sekumpul Waterfall is practically essential. It is considered by many to be the island’s finest waterfall destination. Like most North Bali waterfalls, accessing Sekumpul will require some sweat. It’ll take around an hour to walk the trails and make your way down the verdant ravine, but once you do you'll be rewarded with a vast expanse of idyllic tropical landscapes, and grand-scale falls, which appear to pour from the heavens." - Travis Levius

Sekumpul Waterfall — Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"Let’s start big picture here. Based in North Bali’s sedate countryside, Sekumpul is considered by many to be the island’s finest waterfall destination. Patient hikers are rewarded with a vast expanse of idyllic tropical landscapes, and grand-scale waterfalls which appear to pour from the heavens. Any standout features or must-sees? The namesake falls are arguably the most spectacular of the three main waterfalls one can visit in the park (the others are Fiji Waterfall and Hidden Waterfall). The Eden-like scene of three silky white strands of water falling amidst dense bamboo forest is overwhelmingly beautiful. Was it easy to get around? Like most North Bali waterfalls, accessing Sekumpul will require some sweat. It’ll take around an hour to walk the trails and make your way down the verdant ravine and through the Sekumpul village to reach the main falls. Each tiered ticket entry comes with a guide, so you’ll never lose your way. Protective, non-slippery shoes as well as clothing and gear you don’t mind getting wet are the way to go. All said and done, what—and who—is this best for? It’s a full day affair coming from/to Ubud or Southwest Bali, more than two hours each way, so hiring a driver is highly recommended. One should allot a few hours to maximize time in the lush jungle and its vast network of cascades. If exploring Bali’s paradiscal scenery is a priority, a visit to Sekumpul Waterfall is practically essential." - Travis Levius

Beautiful spot, quite a hike. Super strange vibes - absolutely need a guide. We tried to pay for a ticket to entry with no guide, but then turned around and were told the guy selling us on it all was the guide and stuck with us. Seems to be the vibe of Bali tourism overall. Worth a check still. 150k to see 2 waterfalls, and 250k to see an extra one. We did the first, so roughly $20 USD to see 2 waterfalls. More than enough for us. Coffee afterwards was great to just hang out

This was unfortunately our worst experience on Bali – and we have been to the island three times already and visited many waterfalls. The waterfalls themselves are stunning and the best what we ever seen on Bali, but the way the local guides at Sekumpul treat tourists is very unpleasant. By law, or by any official government regulation, you are not required to hire a guide to visit the waterfalls. The official entrance fee is IDR 30,000 per person. However, the local village has created its own “rule” that every tourist must take a guide – which costs around IDR 200,000 per person – and if you refuse, they will not let you continue down to the falls. This is not an official regulation, but rather a local practice designed to force visitors into paying extra. Even with a “Guest Card” (provided by nearby accommodations, which should exempt guests from this obligation), we were still denied access by the guides. They simply refused to let us pass unless we paid the inflated fee. This was extremely frustrating and left a very negative impression. We respect supporting the local community, but this practice feels dishonest and misleading to tourists. Compared to the many other waterfalls in Bali where we always had wonderful experiences, this situation at Sekumpul was disappointing and left us with the worst impression we’ve had in all our visits to the island.

❤️Sekumpul Waterfall❤️ is a must-see for anyone visiting Bali🔥💪. The view is breathtaking and memorable😱🥹. I recommend taking a drone☝️. The place is quite popular, so there's sometimes a queue to the viewpoint. The route to this point is quite long, but you can rent a scooter, which is plentiful along this route🛵. Parking is free and very spacious🚙. The attraction is payable in cash at the parking lot or just before entering the route. There are several options to choose from, which can be explored on-site. I recommend it to everyone❤️💪.

For anyone who read theworldtravelguy blog and is planning to go through south entrance (after warung fiji) - don't. The scammers will not let you through without a guide. We asked for tickets without a guide and at one point of the guy started yelling like crazy at us and one other tourist, he also started throwing things and became extremely aggressive, I'll add his picture and the picture of the south entrance. They don't treat you like humans, they treat you like walking money bags. These people become very aggressive if you refuse a guide - only entrance ticket is not an option for them. Moreover, they are lying that at the official post 1 you can only see the waterfall from the viewpoint and only here (south entrance) you can walk to the waterfall. They will also lie that the road is very dangerous, and they will at the same time lie that they use the money to maintain the path. I ignored them and walked down a bit - the path is in terrible condition, there is no maintanance, but it's like a 15 min path to the waterfalls, there is absolutely no need for a guide. It's much better to go through the official post 1 entrance, here's why: First of all, they treat you like human, don't shout at you, don't throw stuff at you. It's much safer. Our guide was actually a really nice guy, I have no complaints about him at all. Second of all, from official post 1 you see a lot more places and waterfalls for smaller price than south entrance. I think in south entrance they are just reselling tickets and they charge extra so that they would have some profit. Thirdly, from official post 1 you can actually see them fixing the path. And lastly, you will be able to go without a guide from the official post 1, though I think you won't save any money for doing that. From what I've heard - the price is the same with or without a guide. In any case, here's my honest advise: if you are used to travelling independantly, the mandatory guide might ruin the experience and will rob you of the ability to explore the waterfalls on your own. If that's not the experience you want, I would suggest exploring other smaller waterfalls in the area, they're just as impressive, cheaper, more private and peaceful.

Tucked away in the lush hills of North Bali, Sekumpul, Hidden and Fiji waterfalls are hands down some of the most stunning sights on the island. The jungle trails are peaceful, clean, and untouched ,except for the trail, of course. No rubbish, no chaos, just raw beauty everywhere you look. The hike down was cruisy enough, but the climb back out definitely gave the legs a workout. Still, every step was worth it to witness these falls up close. If you're ever in Bali and keen for a bit of an adventure, this is a must-do. Can’t recommend it enough.

One of the most impressive waterfalls that I have ever seen. And there are actually 3 waterfalls: the hidden one, Sekumpul and Fiji. Worth seeing them all once you get down there, it is quite a hike, so brace yourself. And the nature is fascinating! Wasn’t that crowded. Our local guides didn’t even know about it… Also, the road to the entry point is a challenging one

The views of Sekumpul and Fiji waterfalls were absolutely stunning and worth seeing! 🌿💦 The hike down was manageable, but climbing back up was really tough—definitely a workout for the legs. While the scenery makes it worthwhile, the cost felt too high (350k IDR per person for the bike tour and local guide without any activities).

One of the most breathtaking places I’ve ever been. Visiting is absolutely worth it, and having a guide is essential, not only because they know the way, but also because they are incredibly kind and supportive. They’ll even help you capture amazing photos to remember the experience.
