The 7 Best Hostels in Oaxaca (Updated 2025)

"I found Selina Oaxaca well suited to digital nomads thanks to its coworking space, and it also offers a movie room, rooftop terrace, bar, wellness room, library and yoga lessons so there’s something for every type of traveler. The dorm bunk beds are a bit basic but have thick, comfortable mattresses and the dorms are kept clean; the atmosphere isn’t super social, which makes it a good choice if you want to do your own thing, and it’s pet friendly." - Matthew Kepnes

Had a great stay for three nights in the standard room. Very comfortable bed, huge room and shower. Good hot water. Some noise during the day, but nice and quiet at night. The location was absolutely perfect. Excellent value for money, especially for a solo traveler like me. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The little cafe/restaurant served up very good food & coffee and impressive cocktails. I only wish the rooftop terrace was open; the rooftop views would have been amazing. And maybe a chaise or comfy chairs in the courtyard area. Loved it and would return!

The hotel is filled with beautiful murals and rated number 4 of small hotels in the Centro district of Oaxaca. It is centrally located and an easy walk to everything in the city center. The room was very clean and comfortable with a marvelous rain shower.

Location is excellent. Just a few minutes walk to everything you'll need - the markets, main square etc. It had air con which was a massive plus. The private room was very large which gave us space to spread out which was nice. Also a very large bed. The room only has one window which looks in to the courtyard which we couldn't really open, so keep that in mind. We were only really there at night so it didn't bother us, but I can understand it would be a bigger issue for some. Due to the courtyard design of the building noise echo's very badly. It was consistently noisy throughout the day and night. Staff walkie talkies were unnecessarily loud at 6am. If you're a light sleeper this place isn't for you, even with a private room. Also a shame that the rooftop was closed throughout our stay. As our room didn't have a window it would have been nice to be able to relax somewhere nicer than the courtyard. Overall we were happy with our experience. Thank you.

Room was good usual Selina nice style. 3 stars because they keep a lot of commissions for private tour. I bought a tour realizing straight after that I had payed more the double the price of other participants who found the tour from local guide.

We have stayed at this location multiple times and will always come back. It’s in a great location and has wonderful staff. Laura is always a friendly face when we arrive and provides us with great advice. I didn’t get the other front desk staff’s names, but they are great as well, day and night.

Don't stay here. We booked a private room with private bathroom on Booking.com but when we arrived, we were given a room with a shared bathroom. We raised this to Selina and they said there is nothing they can do, the information they had had us down as a budget room with a lower price than what we paid... we showed them the proof of our booking & payment and they didn't seem bothered. This is both Selina's and Booking.com fault but Selina staff were defensive and told us to complain to Booking/ wouldn't offer to help... My review of the customer service is that it's very bad, so expect the same treatment if you get any issues. Terrace and restaurant and both under construction which wasn't advertised. The whole experience was a shame as we specifically chose this hostel/ room for the private room and bathroom option and to enjoy the terrace. We won't be staying at a Selina again.||Location is very good and cleanliness is okay but it's not worth the price at all.
