A beautiful hotel with a wonderful library and a magical atmosphere. Very pleasant and helpful staff. The dinner served in the hotel restaurant was delicious and the service perfect. The food was prepared quickly. We were very impressed by this hotel and will definitely return.

The hotel is very old and has loads of history. It seems that conserving the history is more important than giving guests a good experience, and that is sad.||The up-keep of the rooms is so-so. For a full price hotel there is expectations to what the guests expect. It is possible to conserv the history and accomodate guests. Bed was worn out and the matress was very thin. The chairs were probably from the 1800's and due for a restore job. The bathroom was "modernized" but could have been so much better by spending a bit more.||The room was very hot. Window open and weather turning over the night made it OK though, but I can imagine it being hot and humid in a good summer night.||We passed on the dinner and found a different place to eat. Nothing on the menu was tempting for any of us. ||The breakfast had very poor selection for gluten free diet. Come on, there is so much to choose from these days. Even frozen bakery you heat up on request. For regular diet the breakfast had the basics. ||Of the good stuff the hotel is very preserved and there is tons of history. If this is your fancy, this is the hotel for you. If you prefer plaster walls and clean design you might steer clear.

The place is like the magic romantic place. Hided between beautiful green mountains.

This is a quaint looking hotel in a small town but was very disappointing. The public areas were very nice, with a small restaurant & a nice library/study area in which to sit. The staff were friendly but disorganized & appeared rather frazzled. ||Our room was in the roof space of the building & was small. There was no closet/wardrobe in the room (maybe it was too small for one?) but neither were there any hooks or hangers on which to hang clothes & jackets etc, so we had to drape everything (we were on motorcycles So lots of outerwear) on the two chairs! The bathroom was basic & the shower so small we continually bumped elbows against the glass. The noise from the quiet roads as cars hit the raised school crossing was annoying during the night.||The dinner was unexciting & unoriginal with a choice of three "a la carte" items (some were no longer available) or what looked like frozen pizzas.||What was really weird though was this... we were a group of twelve & the bar was very understocked with the basic options...only 1 bottle of alcohol free beer, 1 bottle of chardonnay & not much beer! One would think when you have a large group booked in you'd make sure the bar was well-stocked with the basic options!||Breakfast was also disappointing. The coffee was undrinkable & that is saying something, given the amount of coffee we drank at gas stations, the selection of food was small & not kept replenished & for the gluten-free option once again the only choice was crackers. There is GF bread available people!||Finally the staff seemed overwhelmed & under prepared. A very disappointing experience.

The hotel had just reopened after Corona lockdown. No regular breakfast, but they still solved it nicely. The dinner was just superb. Lovely hotel with lots of history (rumor has it that's even haunted). Very friendly staff. Rare to come across such a nice hotel at a small location in Norway. Only minus was the lack of air-conditioning. It was very warm weather when we stayed there.

My Mum and I stayed in the Seljord Hotel for one night on our way from Oslo to Odda. We didn't know what to expect from Seljord but it was great. We had a lovely view from our room. I tried Moose for the first time for dinner which waa delicious. The buffet breakfast was awesome with a huge selection! The staff were all friendly and helpful. And Seljord itself was lovely too! Would recommend!

Charming hotel renovated in an old-fashioned style. Service minded staff that speak several languages. Good breakfast. |The family rooms are practical and good value for money if you're more than two people, but the beds are uncomfortable and the pillows lumpy. In the summer they can also get pretty hot as they are on the top floor. A fan is provided, but there's no AC and you can't leave the roof windows open if it's raining. |The restaurant is beautiful and relatively inexpensive for Norway. The ravioli was excellent, while the salmon was quite bland. |This is a nice place to spend a night in if you're traveling between east and west of Norway. Much more charming than a chain hotel, but with less amenities and comfort.

Delightful, atmospheric & friendly hotel in stunning landscape. Well worth a night or two away from the city in such a historic, beautifully presented, architectural gem. Excellent breakfast, pizzas & evening musical entertainment too.
