This Italian Island Has a 'Wild Blue' Hiking Trail — With Turquoise Fjords, Homemade Wines, and Mediterranean Vistas

"First mapped in 1987 by Mario Verin and Peppino Cicalò and aptly named Wild Blue, the Selvaggio Blu traces ancient shepherds' tracks along a dramatic turquoise coast; I found it rugged and demanding—originally favored by seasoned climbers—but also deeply rewarding, with juniper-branch ladders, ropes and harnesses required at times and frequent encounters with shepherds' bells and maquis vegetation that evoke the pastoral history of the region." - Gina DeCaprio Vercesi Gina DeCaprio Vercesi Gina DeCaprio Vercesi is a New York-based writer with a passion for adventure, history, and conservation. One of the best trekking places in this part of Sardinia. You need a lot of water (at least 1,5 liter), good hiking shoes, sunscreen cream. Some parts are shady but there are a lot that are not. I didn't go to the top where the red trail leads but just walking along the shore is super fun. Very recommended if you like hiking.

The hike is very picturesque - probably the best hike I’ve been to in Sardinia. There are very good views along almost half of the hike. The hike is easy except the last part downhill to the beach which is medium difficulty. I definitely recommend this one

Fairly easy trail angling along the coast. Mainly dirt pack with sections of loose rock. It is primarily level sections of varying short ascents and descents, but sections about half way in or to the beaches will be steeper. A mile/2.2k or so in you will cross the stream, allowing you to refill water or cool off. Remember to close any gates encountered. Compared to more popular beaches, the hike is far easier and beaches significantly less crowded. Perhaps not the same wow factor, but for a more relaxed day this wins. Does not make sense to travel the trail further than Cala Fenile hike down path as the trail is barely broken and will be tough work.

The hiking trail DOES NOT take you to the waterfall. We made a mistake trying to reach it on foot after 30 minutes of walking. Otherwise it’s beautiful.

Really nice trail, views from the cliff were incredible! unfortunately we were not able to follow the track, cause there are no signs/colours/lines marked, so we got stucked near the fence with the goats...but even though it was worth to go there and take some nice pics :) trekking shoes are the basis here

10/10 highly recommend. Lots of animals along the trail with a nice beach to cool off at, at the end.
