Simtokha Dzong, also known as Sangak Zabdhon Phodrang, is an ancient fortress located about 5 kilometers south of Thimphu. Built in 1629 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, it is the oldest dzong in Bhutan and holds significant historical and cultural importance. The architecture is impressive, and the dzong houses intricate murals and statues depicting Buddhist teachings. Although photography is not allowed inside, the serene atmosphere and the sound of monks chanting create a deeply spiritual experience. A visit here offers a glimpse into Bhutan's rich heritage and religious practices.
