Senator Ház

Senator Haz is one of Eger city’s iconic institutions. The small boutique style hotel is carrying the torch of the previous management: “Csöpi néni & Bandi bácsi”. The managing couple made Senator Haz to a must to visit institution in Eger with their soul and spirit, what you miss now. The restaurant was also a must to visit place, hopefully it will be reopened soon.

Below average food, the Cesar salad was a blank pile of salad leaves and some over fried chicken on top. Soups were ok, nothing special. The service was extremely slow, had to wait 1h for the above mentioned salad. They also messed up the orders of our table and one person got their food a whole 30 min after everyone else.

This hotel can be described as one big warm hug. The husband and wife owners man the front desk and are honestly the sweetest hosts. They both speak German and a little English which was great as we know a little bit more German than we do hungarian. On check in they were able to recommend a few places we should visit and be honest about others that may have been "boring" 😄 ❤. My husband also let them know he collects money and wanted to find some of the old Hungarian notes and to our surprise and pleasure the next night the owners gifted my husband some of their own old currency. The location was perfectly situated on Market Square near some lovely restaurants which made us feel like we were a part of the excitement of the city. It is a shame the restaurant attached to our hotel was closed when we were there as we had heard amazing things about it. They do provide a breakfast buffet every morning with yoghurt, fruit, cereals, cold meats and cheeses, bread and a delicious cheese and bacon scrambled eggs. We really loved staying here and would return if we are ever again in Eger.

Could not ask for a better hotel experience. The staff was exceptionally warm and inviting, and we had no trouble checking in with out very scant Hungarian. Our room, which was one of the ones across the street, was well appointed and spotless. The view of the castle from the window was serious storybook material. We had dessert and late night drinks at the restaurant and then the breakfast the next morning -- all were fantastic. Looking forward to our next visit here.

This is one of my favorite location in Eger. It is a fantastic location right next to the castle wall in the middle of downtown. You can feel the history and the culture radiates from the walls of the building! Actually it is an interesting fact that they used some of the stones from the castle when the hotel was built. Even during Covid they are creative to offer some drinks outside for the tourists and for the locals. The staff is super nice. In 2021 I visited in February but previous years I went there many times in Summer months. I stayed in the hotel with American friends. The rooms are small but super cozy and romantic! They offer a great breakfast. Their menu covers many delicious Hungarian and other unique dishes. It is a beautiful view of the city from their terrace. The main tourist attractions just minutes away! I highly recommend this place! It is a hidden gemstone of Hungary!

This is a reasonably priced hotel in a very good location at the top of the main square in Eger. We stayed in a room in an annex. The location was very quiet, the room immaculately clean. Breakfast was simple. The location for breakfast, sitting outside at the top of the square, was excellent and good for people watching. There appears to be plenty of car parking available. We caught an express bus from Budapest to Eger, Autóbusz-állomás which is an easy 10 minute walk to the hotel. The only negative was the quality of the internet. The internet was consistently slow beyond being usable. The connection itself was flakey. Downloading and reading emails to a computer was close to impossible.

Excellent service, warm hospitality, and heritage wrapped inside a historic building dating back to the 18th century. What more can you ask for in an old town known for its charm, character, and history? I had a lovely lunch here, the ambience of the nearby square is charming, spent nearly three hours on the terrace, enjoying the summer vibes. I did not like their lemonade, it was too sweet for me, so I asked for plain carbonated water with lemon — they did not charge for it. The food was great too, the staff kind and polite.
