14 Trips Our Editors Are Taking This Summer

"My wife and I have been carless together in New York since we met 15 years ago, but we're in the process of buying one right now. The one trip we're already planning to use it for is camping near Seneca Lake, one of the biggest of the Finger Lakes, not too far from Ithaca. (I've never been, but countless T-shirts have informed me that it is "Gorges!") We camped with our kids for the first time last year in the Adirondacks and they loved it, so we're embarking on another round of campfire cooking, lazy kayak rides, and slow trail hikes with tick checks every 10 minutes, all activities that should allow for ample social distancing."

One of the prettiest lakes in upstate NY! It's situated right in wine country, and the town of Watkins Glen at the lake's south end has a lot to offer.

It was amazing, I really loved the peace and atmosphere. I liked the night lights at the pier.

5th time to the Finger Lakes. If you have a day, Recommend driving north on the east side of Seneca Lake to the Lodi area. Start your winery visits there then turn southward to head back to Watkins Glen. some personal favorites are Wagner winery, Red Newt, Hazlet, and Damiani. For lunches or dinners check with individual spots for hours. Enjoyed meals at Wagner and Red Newt and StoneCat Cafe. Check with individual spots if you are traveling early or late as the opening / closing times on Google may not be accurate. Since this is farm /rural area, it may be safer to set the next stop on the GPS. It can be challenging to locate the winery entrance then quickly turn off the road. Also try the many wineries on the West Side such as Fox Run, then turn southward to Anthony Road, Weimer, Glenora. Everyone enjoys discovering their fav wineries

We went out on a boat, cruising the lake, where we recieved a history lesson on the area. At the dock, there is a shop with items for sale, with friendly staff behind the counter. Really nice area of NY state. Would go back for sure.

Everytime I come here it changed, for the better They added a new building / Cafe and restrooms at a beach area and the park is lovely. Weekends it's crowded but not so during the week esp when kids are still in school. Watkins Glen is great, but I was told that in the fall there are only dripples due to not much rain in the summer.

Beautiful blue hues with minimal boat traffic that sometimes can take away from the serenity of lake life. Great state parks that allow you to hop from one park to the next on the same day for one admission. Towns and villages would be great if they had more to offer like a bowling alley or arcade. Many wineries, but some you cannot tell whether they are open or if they just close early.

Beautiful lake, especially during summer time. Sunset is lovely at the lake, water is also warm during summer, surrounded with wineries.
