Seongsan Ilchulbong, or Sunrise Peak, is a striking volcanic tuff cone and one of Jeju Island’s most famous landmarks, offering breathtaking views of the crater, green slopes, and the surrounding ocean. The hike to the summit is relatively short but moderately steep, with well-maintained stone steps and railings, making it accessible for most visitors, though it can get crowded, especially at sunrise. From the top, the panoramic views are spectacular, perfect for photos and appreciating Jeju’s volcanic landscape. At the base, there is convenient parking, restrooms, and small cafes and souvenir shops, and coastal walking paths nearby make it easy to explore without climbing if you prefer. The site is very scenic and photogenic, particularly at sunrise, but beyond the climb and the views, there isn’t much else to do, and the area can feel quite touristy. Overall, Seongsan Ilchulbong is a must-visit for anyone new to Jeju, offering a relatively easy hike with unforgettable vistas, though visiting early or off-peak hours will make the experience more enjoyable.

Visit at November 2025 This mountain isn’t very high, but it’s well worth climbing. The scenery is beautiful, and the fresh air and views from the top are truly refreshing. Not recommended for visitors who have difficulty climbing stairs.

Short but challenging walk to the top. The whole trail has stairs. The cot was 5,000 per person, but it was worth it. We went in winter, but I’d suggest taking water and a hat in the summer.

Great views! The trail opens at 05:00 and closes at 18:00. You can get to the top in 15-20 mins if you move fast, it will be a tough exercise though. If you want to go slow it's better to arrive very early, 05:00 probably is your choice. Don't forget to take a bottle of water with you. After watching the sunrise you can walk to the port and take a ferry to Udo island for a nice trip until the end of the day.

Headed there early hoping to catch the first light, but the rain had other plans. Entry requires a small fee, though parking at the open carpark is free. Despite the drizzle, the place still had its charm—definitely worth coming back again on a clear day.

Nice place to hike, though it was a little tougher of a climb than what we had expected. Recommend dressing properly (ie sports shoes and active wear)! It’s a touristy area.

This place on Jeju Island feels like a scene from a movie. Towering cliffs disappearing into the clouds, emerald waters, and black volcanic rocks create a breathtaking landscape. The colors are so vivid it feels almost unreal — like stepping into a cinematic world. At the foot of the mountain, horses graze peacefully, adding a touch of serenity and charm. A walk along the shore, with waves gently crashing against the rocks, leaves unforgettable memories. It’s one of those places where you just want to pause, take it all in, and feel deeply connected to nature.
