Tunnel Log is about a 5–6 minute drive from the main visitor center and is a unique stop inside Sequoia National Park. The drive itself is scenic but requires careful driving, as the road is narrow in places. Going through the fallen sequoia tree carved into a tunnel is a fun and interesting experience, especially for first-time visitors. It’s a nice photo opportunity and something you don’t see every day. That said, it’s not a must-do if you’re short on time or not particularly interested in taking photos. One downside is the long wait. Once you enter the road leading to Tunnel Log, there’s no way to turn back. We ended up waiting more than 40 minutes because many people were stopping to take pictures with their cars. The wait made the experience less enjoyable, and in my opinion, it’s not really worth waiting that long just for the photo. Overall, it’s a decent and memorable experience, but managing expectations is important. If there’s little or no line, it’s worth checking out. If the line is long, you may want to skip it and spend time on other highlights in the park.

We visited Tunnel Log yesterday, and although the road from the museum to the tunnel was closed to cars, it turned out to be a great experience. We walked instead, and the round trip took about two hours with stops for photos. The walk through the forest was beautiful and peaceful, and reaching the Tunnel Log on foot made the experience even more special. Seeing and walking through such a massive fallen sequoia really highlights the incredible scale of these trees. Definitely worth the effort. It’s highly recommended to arrive early in the day to avoid long lines at the entrance and to find parking more easily.

Such a beautiful national park with majestic trees. At present some roads are closed due to snow. Moro rock is worth the climb, amazing views from the top!

Google
Such a fun and classic stop! A fallen giant sequoia with a tunnel cut through it — you can actually drive or walk right under the log. We went in early fall and it wasn’t crowded. There’s enough space to park nearby and take photos. A short but iconic stop that’s definitely worth seeing!

Beautiful park,a lifetime experience.Talked to a few park workers and they were the most friendly people.

Google
Really cool and fun experience. Just be prepared for people taking photos... there's a side trail to avoid waiting and going under the tree that saves time.

Google
Not a destination in itself, but we drove through it after watching sunrise at Moro Rock (and before the shuttle buses were running). I am still impressed by the size and durability of these trees. Also note that while the tunnel is large enough for most vehicles, the shuttle buses do not go through this tunnel (it is on a short side loop road off Crescent Meadow Road).

Google
So nostalgic to finally get to do this! I recommend going early to beat the crowds. The loop to drive thru is 2 way, but the roads are so narrow that it gets very congested. I wish they would make it a one way.

Yelp
There are cars waiting along the street to drive through the tree log. you can make a loop follow the bypass sign. There were people climbing on top of the log which was a bummer for those who wanted to take picture. overall, this is a fun experience

Yelp
Worth a stop. There is a sign for Crescent Meadow's near the visitor center. Follow signs for the meadow, and u will soon get to the drive-thru tree. Limited sized vehicles fit.

Yelp
I accidently walked through here, lol, but there was a line of cars driving through extremely slowly, one at a time, taking photos. There were some teenage boys who climbed on top of the log and were holding up the line, so a woman in a car got mad and started screaming, cussing, and flipping them off. It was wild. So IF YOU ARE IN A HURRY TO GET THROUGH HERE QUICKLY, DO NOT COME. IT WILL TAKE 30 MINUTES, PROBABLY MORE, TO GET THROUGH THIS LINE.

Yelp
Absolute must (especially because it's a quick stop) if you are in Sequoia. It's really close to Moro Rock and Crescent Meadow so why not get that photo opt? I went during 4th of July weekend so it was PACKED...there was a line so it was probably 15 minute wait to get through the log and do your photo opt. I wish I was able to climb on top of the log and take a picture above my car like some of the photos shown, but there were a lot of impatient & sometimes angry people (blocking the road or taking too long). If you are at Sequoia and it's pretty secluded time, I would recommend using all the time you need (especially if there aren't any cars behind you or waiting for you) because it's a cool experience. If there are a lot of people, quickly do your switches, selfies or have someone take your picture for you. Either way, a definite must stop on your Sequoia journey!

Yelp
This is probably the one touristy gimmick we did at Sequoia. It's basically a tree that has fallen down that they cut a hole in so that cars can drive through. It's a bit hectic with everyone trying to get out and take pictures of their car driving through. There's also a bypass if you don't want to wait to drive through the log. While it's definitely touristy, it's a cool think to stop and do quickly.

Yelp
Tunnel Log is an iconic spot here at Sequoia National park. It's situated right in the center of all the action.....near the Giant Forest Museum area, great trails including Big Tree Trail and Crescent Meadow Loop, and attractions Moro and Hanging Rocks. I just happened to stop on by here in late afternoon when I visited back in June. As you can probably imagine, later (or earlier) in the day are the best times to go as it'll present you with opportunities to not only drive your car through the "tunnel" but for taking a few moments to stop and photograph this giant fallen sequoia. I must admit I was surprised how polite folks were spending only minimal times for pictures of Tunnel Log. Usually, most people get selfish and don't take other visitor's time into consideration while attempting to nab the perfect photo with every family member. Even for myself traveling alone, a few strangers kindly volunteered to take my pic as I climbed Tunnel Log while admiring the surroundings. When you do drive up to Tunnel Log, steer towards the left and you'll make a quick circular u-turn as you approach the tree. When I visited, I briefly waited a few moments...only 2 cars in front of me....while permitting time for their pictures. After driving through, there'll be space to pull your car over to the side. Here you'll have the chance (if no other cars are approaching) to get out and climb on top of Tunnel Long. Wow...the tree sits in an exuberant setting and there were playful moments to ascend on top of the log and hover over the tunnel. I certainly put into perspective how massive this sequoia was and how tiny I appeared in comparison. My pictures came out great. I was real satisfied that when I arrived at Tunnel Log, I didn't have to wait long as I had envisioned with massive crowds...especially after being unable to photograph General Sherman's Tree earlier in the day. The key absolutely, is to....VISIT THIS ATTRACTION EITHER VERY EARLY OR VERY LATE IN THE DAY! You'll then have time to capture those ideal photos. Also...while you drive over to the tree, a few moments before getting here....make sure to stop and observe the PARKER GROUP of prolific sequoias along the way. They're an absolutely worthwhile picture and you'll approach them as they sit on the right hand side of the road. Overall, Tunnel Log is a quintessential part of the attractions for all visitors and tourists. It can't be missed and it's a terrific setting for attaining ever lasting memorable photos from your time at Sequoia National Park.

Yelp
Awesome and fun weekend getaways for the whole family to see and enjoy. They have the biggest and tallest trees that I have ever seem

Yelp
This log is awesome for a photo op for you and your car. It's only about a mile from Moro Rock, but if that's open, then you HAVE to come to Tunnel Log. While RVs definitely won't fit in the hole, SUV class trucks and anything smaller go through. There's a bypass to drive around the log, which can get crowded with car traffic.

Yelp
Pretty Cool Experience While Exploring Sequoia! This is a small stop on your journey through Sequoia National Park. Stop and take a quick photo and continue along your journey.

Yelp
If you're in Sequoia NP heading to Moro Rock and it's not too crowded, make sure you stop here. We came midday on the Sunday after Thanksgiving and there was a line of just three cars ahead of us to go through the tunnel. Although most folks are respectful and take just a few pictures before moving along, some groups think this is prime territory for their Instagram story and spend 5+ minutes per group switching places, climbing on top of the log, sitting on the roof of their cars, etc. trying to find that "perfect" photo. Yelpers - please don't be that person.

Yelp
Oh, yay, Tunnel Log! Super campy, but super fun! We came in early spring, and the road was open but nobody was lined up to go through...so we went through three times in a row! Kids took pics up, down, and sideways, and will remember it forever (I did....and my parents drove me through a similar tree tunnel *mumble* years ago). Don't miss this!

Yelp
pretty cool/neat fun less than 5 minute thing to experience and snap a photo really quick before you continue on your way to other destinations at sequoia national park.
