The stay began on a high note, primarily thanks to the exceptional staff. Every team member we encountered was friendly, professional, and genuinely eager to assist throughout our visit. This level of service was truly the highlight of the hotel.
The hotel's prime location is also a major asset, situated directly on the beach with ample coastal walking options and dining within a twenty-minute stroll in either direction.
Our room itself was adequate, offering a good-sized bed and plenty of space to move about. The lack of a sea view was not an inconvenience.
Areas for Improvement (Critical Issues)
1. Catering and Breakfast Quality
The breakfast service was severely disappointing and arguably the biggest let-down of the stay. The hot food selection, including soggy bacon and strange-tasting scrambled eggs, was consistently poor.
The continental offerings were also subpar. While bread and toasters were available, there was a lack of adequate spreads. The single jar of jam—served with a tiny wooden spoon that quickly became unhygienically caked—was inadequate for the volume of guests. Furthermore, the fruit juice tasted distinctly like watered-down cordial.
The two automatic coffee machines were slow and prone to overfilling, often causing cups to overflow. While the yoghurt and melon became our go-to option, the yoghurt ran out for a couple of days of our stay.
2. Maintenance and Amenities
The core maintenance issues were highly frustrating. The shower frequently backed up and leaked, resulting in the bathroom flooding with every single use. Although the cleaner promptly reported the issue on our behalf, it remained unresolved upon our departure. Furthermore, the air conditioning unit was loud and ineffective, failing to adequately cool the room.
3. Safety Hazard
A significant safety concern exists on the main staircase between floors 1 and 2. One step is subtly lower than the others, creating a clear tripping hazard. I personally observed several guests stumble and nearly fall here, and this needs immediate action from hotel management.
Summary
Overall, the Sercotel is defined by a sharp contrast: excellent, five-star service and setting are completely undercut by subpar maintenance and catering standards. Immediate action is required to address the critical quality issues with the breakfast and, more importantly, the safety and plumbing concerns before I could recommend a return visit.
