After my husband was taken into Tangalle hospital for two days with a severe chest infection we needed somewhere to stay for him to recoup and recover. We stayed 3 nights here in Serein beach and it was so relaxing and peaceful it felt like we had been there for a week. Extremely good breakfast. Free cold bottled water. A great swimming pool to use and places to sit outside and inside to chill out. The beach is also on your doorstep. We loved our stay and hope to be back. Thank you to everyone at Serein x

Upon arrival we got to know we are the only guests at this 10-bedroom resort, witch for us was a perfect benefit, the luxury privilege of having the entire resort for ourselves, with the staff’s full attention – PURE LUXURY! The flips side of the coin is that if you want to dine lunch and/or dinner – there is a 1-day advance notice required and there was no bar available either. But we found many good restaurants, so this was never a problem for us. We can recommend “Mamas Kitchen”, “Dream Family Restaurant”, “Chili Hot Café” and “Ceylon Excel”. The on-site staff lead by Nipuna was very attentive, the place is cared for daily within garden, pool, sunbed areas etc. The breakfasts severed are good and healthy with included options available. We were offered Singhalese breakfast and had this option 3 times – delicious and well worth trying (I also got my morning eggs with this choice). KUDOS FOR THE ON-SITE STAFF! The rooms are on the basic side, but clean and functional, there was never a problem without A/C and the rooms are reasonably cooled by the trade winds through the room, enforced by a ceiling fan. Warm water was also never an issue (but as mentioned only 1 room occupied). Room was only cleaned once during our 6-night stay, but with complete change of sheets and towels. The beach is deserted, clean, very long and with wonderful sand. The surf mostly tends to be too high with strong currents (at least in this season) making it difficult to swim right outside of the hotel. If you walk about 800 meters towards the east (Mangrove Beach) perhaps 10-15 minutes walking along the shoreline. There is a partition of the beach that is much better protected, by larger structures of bedrocks – giving us a safe area to swim in the ocean. It’s well worth the effort and when walking there, one passes a handful of beach restaurants, serving drinks and food, on the way to the safe beach. The pool is inviting and beautiful, about 10-12 by 4-5 meters and there are 2 large wooden decks, 1 close to the pool the other facing the beach – great for sunbathing or hiding/relaxing in the shadows of the trees. The garden provides sunshades. WARNING – THE HOTEL IS NOT ACCEPTING CREDIT CARDS – ONLY CASH PAYMENTS. The National Bank of Sri Lanka is publishing the USD/LKR exchange rates daily. Most banks follow these rates and most currency exchange offices do as well, with perhaps a slightly improved margin. Most hotels we have experience from uses the average rate (nominal) representing a fair split of the rate between the guest and the hotel. The owner of Serein Hotel (not present at the time) insists not only to use the sell rate (as if she was selling us USD, when we pay cash in LKR), she also adds an extra 5 LKR per USD. This greedy claim was for us an outrageous, almost 3.5% additional cost. When working in the hospitality industry, normally that means, when being a host/manager/owner – you listen to your guest – not just yell at them – as if they are idiots! The owner was calling the hotel from Dubai, demanding to speak to us, being very unfriendly, she has no ability to listen, and she yells at the customer and is very rude. We now faced a situation where we had to collect a huge amount of cash from ATM’s. Now we had to find a place selling us USD locally – not so easy but in the end it was doable. DO NOT expect that a credit card payment is possible, 2) BRING CASH to avoid having to walk into central Tangalle to find ATM’s 3) BRING CASH IN USD to the exact amount and do ask for a receipt ON DEPARTURE – the owner, that had arrived at the property the evening before, sleeked new situation for provocative arguments – we simply could not escape her anger, forced to leave by taxi with an overall sour feeling.

We wanted a relaxing few nights, after a hectic week after arriving in Sri Lanka, and that's exactly what we got. The owner and staff are super friendly and happy to help in anyway they can. It was my birthday and they really made a fuss when we arrived. The breakfast is basic but very good. We've had lunch twice and the curries are great. Lots of food!!! The pool is beautiful as is the building. Nice open downstairs with lots of places that relax out of the sun. The pool is superb and you can lounging in the sun or shade with ease around it. Bedrooms are basic but good. The area is lovely and quiet right now. Other bars and restaurants start within five minutes walk. It's easy to get to them either via the beach or along the very quiet and safe road. If you really want to chill out I'd definitely recommend this place. Enjoy.

Amazing place with a beautiful beach front. Perfect for an evening BBQ at the beach. The service and the food was excellent. Kayaking in the mangrove is a must for bird lovers. Excellent value for money. Rooms were very comfortable and the staff was very friendly. Best place for a weekend getaway! Will definitely visit again

The exterior was beautiful. Nice pool and right next to the beach. It’s very quiet and 10/20 minutes away from the restaurants and bars. The room was ok: AC, hot water, comfortable beds. There were insects coming inside. The employees were nice but not really helpful. Don’t expect any recommandations on activities to do, places to visit or restaurants to go. It was like it was just a place to sleep, they were nice and smiling but not welcoming. As you have to book the breakfast 1 day in advance, we asked for restaurants and they were just saying walk in this direction. For the price it was disappointing.

Absolutely love this place. As a designer myself, I really like the architectural style and the interior design inside the room, tropical, modern, neat and elegant. Hotel ambiance was great, beach outside was just amazing. Walking towards to the east side, the beach was peaceful, less and less touched. Wonderful experience with a reasonable price paid. Had SriLanka breakfast, was great!

Both me & my wife booked this place for 2 nights after seeing many reviews online. Google maps shows 2 roads to reach the hotel. The first one is apparently the correct one and a good Tar road. We ended up taking the 2nd road which was a total nightmare as it was filled with pot holes and mud and as a result ended up knocking the bottom of my car many times. Apparently no one uses that road according to the hotel. Anyhow, The hotel had Covid-19 guidelines in place and we were given a welcome drink on arrival. For our luck we were the only 2 guests for the 3 days. They have a nice clean swimming pool outside before the beach. The sea is too rough with sea currents to swim but you can walk by the sea and there are lots of beautiful sea shells that you can collect. If you want you can go a few inches into the sea and get yourself wet without trying to swim. The rooms were clean and spacious. The A/C was working and so was the hot water in the bathroom. Beds were comfortable. The balcony has a view of the swimming pool and beach. Regarding the food, we stayed on Full board basis and they have an a la carte menu where you can pick and order food from. The serving portions are generous and very filling. Overall the food was very tasty across all 3 meals and we really enjoyed it. The staff are very friendly and helpful too. If you are bored in your room, you can take a stroll on the road where one side there is a marsh area and you get to see dragonflies, butterflies, lizards and birds. The view from the rooftop of the hotel is truly amazing. On one side you see a massive forest and on the opposite side the sea. It's very beautiful early morning and in the night. Overall, we had an awesome stay and enjoyed every bit of it.

Pros: nice new hotel, large room, good views from upper floor rooms, clean, eco friendly. Cons: Not good value for money: this hotel Has no AC ( we made the mistake of overlooking this while booking) too far from main restaurants area, cannot swim on the beach, have to walk 20 min to a swimming place, no room make up service, no free water bottles after arrival day so you are forced to buy 100r bottles from them since there is nowhere nearby to buy water, lunch the first day was terrible so we ate elsewhere after that, expensive beer, road leading to hotel is terrible.
