If you are reading this review then odds are you have also read some of the 1-2 star reviews about this resort, and odds are you have some of the same concerns we had when booking. However, I am pleased to say that after a week at Serenity Glamping we couldn't be happier with our experience there. We'll start with the concerns, and my experience:
Cleanliness: the rooms were clean and well-maintained, with daily cleaning service including full turndown and fresh amenities (including locally sourced bathing and hygiene products). The tents were spacious, cute (a little rustic with dark wood furnishings and a small writing desk).
Temperature control: AC is centrally located in all rooms (our booking was for 3 glamping tents) and cools the rooms well. The air circulated and, on hotter evenings where we turned the AC up, we woke up chilly.
Location: Xpu-ha is remote in the sense that it is between Playa and Akumal, but that is the very point of it. Colectivos (local taxis) can be hailed from the main gate (1min walk from reception) and are 60 pesos a person to Playa or Tulum. Cabs are hideously expensive, don't bother.
Likewise, the beach is about 5min walk from reception. The walk is shaded and pleasant. Once on the beach you will be treated to well-groomed white sand, gentle surf, and vibrant coral reef about 75 metres offshore.
Noise: the highway is close, as is Playa airport, but this is true of all the all-inclusives on the strip. At least the Glamping staff provide earplugs, however I had no issues at all sleeping as the jungle dampens ambient noise. We never heard club music and I don't even know where it would be coming from, as the adjacent resort is pretty far and the beach club seems to shut down early. My wife is a light sleeper and, after a night of adjusting to the crickets, birds and coatimundi sounds had no issue at all.
Amenities: the restaurant breakfast is actually not bad, coming in at around 130 pesos for a reasonable breakfast and 70 pesos for coffee (but free refills). If you don't care for the coffee cost, there is in-room refrigerators and I kept a couple iced coffees on hand for lazier days when I didn't want to restaurant.
For the beach club, we never had an issue getting 3x plush loungers for our group of 5, no matter what time of day. This may differ if you book over a national holiday, as the Riviera tends to get quite busy, but for our trip in January the club was popular but never full. The club restaurant is expensive, but the staff don't seem to care if you bring your own water and snacks. Just don't push it and you'll be fine.
Staff: I cannot say enough about the staff. Specifically, Alejandra and Victor are lovely people who were happy to chat, provide expert advice about the local area, and in general ensure our trip was the best it could be.
Overall impression is that I would (and will) return to this resort in a heartbeat. The beach is unparalleled, the rooms are adorable and romantic, and the staff are lovely. The location is remote while also being within 20 minutes of vibrant central tourism locations.
