Visiting the Gainsbourg House and Museum wasn’t just a cultural outing, it felt like a spiritual rebirth. The experience was deeply intimate, haunting in the most beautiful way, and left me with a lingering sense of melancholic inspiration.
Walking through Serge’s preserved home, with every cigarette stub, scrawl, and bottle untouched, was like stepping directly into his genius and his decay. It’s not a sanitised homage, it’s raw, personal, real. The audio tour was deeply atmospheric, letting Charlottes voice guide me through the spaces he inhabited.
The museum across the street was equally stunning, curated with elegance and a touch of reverence, but still pulsing with that gritty, Gainsbourg energy. Art, music and poetry all woven together in a way that feels honest, human, and alive.
I didn’t go to the bar, so I can’t speak to that part of the experience, but the energy throughout the entire space was magnetic. I felt lucky and deeply thankful to be there. This is more than a museum. It’s a pilgrimage site for those inspired by Serge.
10/10 one of the most powerful and moving museums I’ve visited Paris. If you’re even remotely drawn to Gainsbourg, go!!!
