This place is above expectations. It is a small boutique hotel, well curated and designed. Pool spectacular. There are staff there all the time whom are able to help and cook for you and prepare cocktails etc. the beds are comfortable, shower and products lovely. Air con a dream. Tuk tuks are no problems to get a round. My daughter was very sick and they helped us arrange medical help for her at the local hospital. I would return with more friends. There are 17 beds in the hotel. We had massages arranged for us, cooking class and all the additions were well priced compared to arranging things yourself in town. You are looked after all the time and is a total holiday.

The reviews dont lie. Sergeant House is a standout with its design, serene gardens, pool, staff and heavenly food. The seafood dinner was one of the best we ate in a country of top foodie experiences. Ms Chaturi, the manager, runs a tight ship, but with discretion and a sweet style. Our only disappointment was a few days sharing the space with a large family of seven, including a noisy 2 year old and two other young children who spread out across the compound. The space is not really suitable for such a large family group to share with smaller groups wanting to relax in a normally quiet setting. Otherwise top marks for this slice of paradise.

Staying at Sergeant House was one of the highlights of our trip to Sri Lanka. Tucked just a short walk from the centre of Unawatuna, the property felt like a peaceful, private oasis — full of charm, history, and natural beauty.||||We were lucky enough to be the only guests during our stay, and the experience felt incredibly personal and exclusive. The private beach just across the road was a lovely, quiet spot — a beautiful place to relax and take in the ocean views.||||The staff were absolutely wonderful. They truly spoiled us – always warm, attentive, and thoughtful without being intrusive. Every interaction felt genuine, and nothing was ever too much trouble. It was clear they take great pride in making guests feel at home.||||The villa and gardens are beautifully maintained, with colonial architecture and lush greenery. We had the pool entirely to ourselves throughout our stay, which made it feel all the more relaxing and luxurious. Our room was spacious, tastefully decorated, and very comfortable — a lovely mix of heritage and modern touches.||||Breakfasts were generous and delicious, with fresh, flavourful options that started each day beautifully.||||Sergeant House is a rare find — peaceful, full of character, and run with true care. It was the perfect place to slow down and enjoy the quiet, and we’ll always remember the calm and kindness we experienced here.

The staff at the hotel cannot do enough for you and the chef is excellent so make sure you have at least one evening meal here. The massages were also very good. |We stayed in the cave which was bijou and compact but had 2 singles which we preferred, just go down the stairs backwards, it’s easier!|We got Ubers to Galle and tuk tuks to turtle beach, all very do able & cheap. The manager is particularly helpful in getting you what and to where you need! Thank you for a very lovely stay!

Absolutely stunning place with superb service. It’s very opulent, elegant and classy. The grounds are very green and the house itself has been restored to a very high standard. The suite we stayed in was beautiful and grand and private beach was beautiful. The service is relaxed, yet professional and personal. We felt very at home and would loved to have stayed longer.

Sergeant Hotel, Unawatuna – A Tropical Whisper in the Heart of Sri Lanka Nestled among the lush foliage of tropical Unawatuna, where greenery gently brushes against quiet architecture, lies a serene retreat of refined taste – the Sergeant Hotel. The first impression is a canvas of dappled sunlight and shade. The pool reflects the sky like a still mirror, framed by smooth stone and tropical leaves, inviting you to surrender to the art of stillness. The daybeds whisper of lazy afternoons: deep breaths, slow thoughts, a good book, a soft breeze. Inside, the design is a beautiful marriage of colonial charm and modern comfort. Earthy tones, organic textures, and a sense of calm permeate the space. The bedroom is a sanctuary in itself – the four-poster bed with its flowing mosquito net feels like a scene from a romantic novella. Everything is meticulously curated, from handmade rugs to warm ambient lighting and a cleanliness that honors the traveler. Outdoors, the sitting area with wooden armchairs and a modest table offers the perfect setting for a quiet morning coffee or a starlit drink, all to the backdrop of rustling palms and distant birdsong. The staff? Unfailingly discreet, genuinely kind, and effortlessly warm – the kind of hospitality that doesn’t need to be taught, because it comes from the heart. The Sergeant Hotel is more than a place to stay. It is an experience. A pause in your journey where you can rest, dream, and truly be. Rating: 10/10 Ideal for couples, nature lovers, and soulful travelers seeking authenticity and peace.

Don’t be fooled by the three star rating. This small boutique hotel is just gorgeous. Definitely five stars. The welcome was perfect, The hotel grounds are just beautiful. You feel cosy, and surrounded by interesting artifacts .The hotel is a ‘hidden gem’. Both breakfast and dinner in restaurant surround by the pool were just excellent. There is a private beach across the road. The only warning I would give , if you have trouble accessing and using stairs this is probably is not the place for you. Our stay was perfect and would definitely return to what we consider ‘ a home in Sri Lanka’. Congratulations on a great property.
