Very pretty and charming Ryokan- landscaping was gorgeous, felt like we were inside a delightful Japanese Garden - lights at night made it feel magical...|Easily accessible by subway and taxi from Kyoto Central station.|Dinner - (10 courses), and breakfast were exquisite- food was delicious, elegantly prepared and served |Staff was very nice and very courteous- very little English, but trying their best...|Onsen indoors and outdoors were small, but pleasant ( no previous experience to compare them to).|The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is because I feel that the time guests can use the mineral baths if they stay only one night is quite limited- No access to the inside of the Ryokan or the baths before 3 pm on day of arrival and after 10 am the following morning, day of departure--except to sit in the outdoor cafe/ restaurant which is on the property in the garden and where you can wait for your taxi or your admission to the Ryokan- ||Other than that, I highly recommend it, especially for a stay of more than one day- the countryside around is also beautiful. A new and very pleasant experience for the 2 of us.

The rooms were clean with a beautiful view, with yukatas provided. The private onsen was wonderful. The staff was even more amazing and helpful, accommodating all dietary restrictions for breakfast and dinner. They also called a taxi for us. Overall, recommended for everyone that wants a luxurious experience in Kyoto.

The highlight of staying in Kyoto. This ryokan is going towards more of the countryside of Kyoto in Ohara but it is definitely worth spending a couple nights in. Yes it is farther away from the main tourist temples but honestly it is so much nicer staying here away from all the tourists and finding hidden gems within Ohara where there are hardly any tourists. The rooms themselves were so serene and peaceful. The onsens always feel amazing especially after long days exploring temples and gardens. The staff and service were beyond accommodating and friendly. My wife had dietary restrictions and they were more than happy to accommodate. Breakfast and dinner is included with each night which is so lovely not having to worry about what to eat for dinner when it is already provided. Our room had a nice view of the garden and koi fish swimming around. I can't say enough about how great it was to stay here and I would highly recommend to anyone I know to stay here. You will receive a unique Kyoto experience from everyone else if you stay here and will never forget! Thank you to the staff, you have made our visit to Japan incredibly memorable.

We took a taxi to this location because it was a little too far by bus, and we had all of our luggage with us. The location is beautiful. If you're only staying for one night like we did, then you should check in at the earliest (3:00 pm) so you can explore the local area. There are some really nice shrines nearby. We were only able to do this after breakfast the next morning. We also had to be out by 10:00 am, which surprised us because it was listed as 11:00 am on Trip.com. You will be served traditional Japanese cuisine for dinner and breakfast. They do an excellent job of presenting all of the dishes, and the service is also incredible. But if you're not used to eating raw fish, or traditional Japanese cuisine in general, you should definitely bring your own snacks to eat in your room! We stayed in the Garden view room with tatami mats. The staff will actually rearrange the room for you during dinner and set up your beds if you select this room. That was a very nice touch, so make sure you don't leave your room a total mess before dinner! I have added a picture of the beds after they were set up. The garden view was well worth the money we spent for it. Very relaxing and beautiful. And surprisingly enough...the tatami beds were super comfortable and warm!

Our stay at Seryo was absolutely magical and the highlight of our trip. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the incredibly kind and hospitable hosts, making us feel at home right away. The ryokan itself exudes a cozy and inviting atmosphere, with traditional touches that enhance the experience. One of the highlights was the beautiful garden, which looked even more stunning with snow on the ground. The onsen was another standout feature—perfectly clean and wonderfully hot, offering a serene and rejuvenating soak even in the chilly weather. It was an unforgettable experience to relax in the warm water while surrounded by winter scenery. The meals were truly exceptional. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious, prepared with high-quality ingredients and presented with such elegance that they felt like works of art. Every dish was thoughtfully crafted, making each meal an experience in itself. The location of the ryokan is another reason to visit. Ohara is a peaceful, remote village away from the busy streets of Kyoto, offering a perfect escape into nature. The surrounding area is filled with beautiful hiking trails, historic shrines, and temples, making it an ideal destination for those looking to explore a more tranquil side of Japan. Overall, our stay at Seryo was beyond our expectations. It was the perfect blend of relaxation, tradition, and natural beauty. If you’re looking for an authentic and serene ryokan experience near Kyoto, this is the place to be. We can’t wait to visit again!

Absolutely amazing stay at SERYO. The rooms and amenities are beautiful and spotless. The staff goes above and beyond to make sure their guests are comfortable - I have a gluten allergy and they were extremely accommodating in making sure I was able to eat the dinner and breakfast. Would recommend to anyone looking for a Ryokan in Japan. Thank you!

I stayed one night with my family and we were very impressed by the service, friendly staff, room, and food. We were picked up at the ohara bus station by the owner/manager which was very convenient and were welcomed with hot tea and mochi. We stayed in the room with a private onsen which was beautiful and serene, and wore the Japanese garments provided (which was a new experience!). It was my first time having a traditional Kyoto dinner and breakfast which were lovely - everything is home grown or local and tasted very fresh. Meal service was very attentive. Overall very happy with our stay and I’m sure we’ll be back the next time we one back to Japan

Stayed here for a couple nights on a recent trip to Japan and was impressed with Seryo from top to bottom. The staff are friendly and helpful, the rooms are spacious and comfortable, the food is incredible (particularly breakfast), and there are just so many other small details that elevate this place to being a wonderful stay such as beautiful sake sets at dinner and the welcome tea and mochi they serve when you arrive. Not to mention it’s located in a serene area that is so naturally gorgeous and just off the beaten path enough to not feel super touristy. I got to see some wonderful practically empty shrines and temples, mountains, a waterfall, etc. all within walking distance. And the local shops are cute and sell a lot of homemade/handcrafted foods and goods that I didn’t find elsewhere in Japan. I hope to be able to come back to Japan in the future, and if I do I will absolutely stay here again.
