A recent trip to Plugs Appliances, on Johnnie Dodds Blvd., reminded me that it's been ages since we had a 'burger and fries' dinner at this well established Mt. Pleasant gem, right next door.
As such, we returned last evening. There's dedicated parking, outdoor dining, or if you prefer, indoor seating at booths, a few tables, a cute bar or upstairs. We sat at a comfortable booth, inside.
The menu has all the usual suspects you'd expect at a burger joint, it's right sized and easy to navigate. Thirteen Signature burgers are offered ... choose among beef, elk!, chicken, turkey, black and bean. They're priced accordingly ... $11.50-$15.50. If you prefer, you can build your own. If you want a side, there's many to choose among for an upcharge. There are several bread options or get your burger served in a bowl or on a bed of greens ($2.00 more).
Not feeling burger love? There's several sammies and fortunately for me, a nice choice of dinner salads with add-on protein options.
We passed on the shareable apps, though frankly, they all looked delish.
There's a good selection of about 20 craft beers, most priced between $7.50-$9.50/glass. Hub went for a bottle of Yuengling, a reasonable $4.00. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy my Margarita. It came out large, in a beer glass, and was way too sour.
My husband ordered the Mushroom Swiss Beef Burger ($12.50) topped with grilled mushrooms, garlic aioli, lettuce, tomato and onion, served on a fresh sesame brioche bun. It was prepared to order, tasty and looked to be around 6 oz. Considering that the Idaho Steak Fries were al a carte ($3.00) the size of the order was disappointing, especially after I eyed a more than generous order of sweet potato fries delivered to the next table. Also, they could have been hotter and crispier. My Sante Fe Salad ($12.00) was wonderful. It arrived, loaded with fresh mixed greens, black bean corn relish, cheddar cheese, lots of tortilla chips, Pico de gallo, and a surprisingly generous amount of sliced avocado. The honey chipotle vinaigrette, served on the side, was tasty and went well with the salad. I added a sliced grilled chicken breast which was moist and worth the $6.00 upcharge.
While we passed on the Starters, there was no passing up the Reese's Peanut Butter Pie ($8.00) for dessert. As you might expect, it was divine.
By the way, Sesame offers chocolate, vanilla or strawberry milkshakes, with a variety of mix-ins for $0.50/piece. Or, if you prefer, make it 'adult' for $9.50.
Bring the kiddos ... there's a bunch of options for kids, too.
Our server, Melissa, was friendly and attentive.
Looking for a relatively inexpensive casual dining experience? Please don't overlook this oldie but goody Mount Pleasant staple. We'll be back!
