"The Seth Peterson Cottage, located within Mirror Lake State Park in Wisconsin, is one of Frank Lloyd Wright's Usonian houses available as a vacation rental. Despite its small size of 880 square feet, it offers an intimate experience with its signature Wright design elements. The cottage, originally commissioned by Seth Peterson, is perched on a wooded hill with local sandstone walls, picture windows, a cantilevered roof, and a central chimney. It has been restored and is available for rental or tours." - Rachel Chang Rachel Chang Rachel Chang is a travel and pop culture journalist who contributes to Travel + Leisure, Condé Nast Traveler, Lonely Planet, and more. Stayed here for 3 nights during the winter. (Sand County rentals manages it.) Awesome architecture. No need to leave if you bring food to make. Small kitchen and bathroom, but that's not why people stay here. Beautiful site along the water, gorgeous during the winter. Bring your own birdseed, aa they only provided sunflower seeds. It was below zero the whole time, so using the fireplace made it colder at night, but excellent during the daytime. Consider packing puzzles, games, and your reading material. If you do go into town, check out Del Bar for an upscale dinner. Unique building provides a unique experience. Find the hidden pennies and the 'secret panel' if you are up for a challenge. Enjoy the location, it's a beaut.

Tours only available on Sundays starting at 1pm, arrive early parking area fills quickly!! Short walk to the cottage. We had the 2nd tour of the day in early October it is heavily shaded so if temps are less than 50°F definitely bring long sleeves. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the house and hiccups that occured while bringing it back to originally designed appearance.

Great little gem inside the Mirror Lake SP. It was designed by FLW even dough he never visited the site. This was the 1st house by FLW that you can stay in as a paying guest. Book early, it sells out fast. Make sure to drop some money for donation. It's worth preserving and run by volunteers mostly.

Well worth the $5 tour led by knowledgeable volunteers. Disregard the information on the internet including the Mirror Lake State Park website stating that the cottage is closed. You can check the cottage's Facebook page to confirm it to be open. Note that the cottage is only open one afternoon a month, the second Sunday. The cottage can still be rented for $325/night with a two-night minimum including a canoe although there may be a slight discount during winter. It is among the smallest and final designs made by FLW in 1958. For tours, park in the gravel lot by the road and walk the long driveway to the cottage.

The cottage is open for public tours one Sunday a month. The guides are terrific!

No words can describe the remoteness, the serenity, the quietness or the fireplace. Both an inspiring and sad story.

Interesting little cottage by FLLW. It is hard to see as the tours are only offered one Sunday a month from 1-330PM. Fortunately we happened to be in town during that time and were able to take the tour for the $5 suggested donation. It is run by volunteers of the Wright Foundation and you can tell how passionate they are about the work and the history. The tour is only about an hour and very interesting.
