I stayed here from early April to the end of October 2024, which is a lot longer than it seems.
The 12-bed dorm rooms are pretty standard dormitory-styled rooms. Two of the 5-6 12-bed rooms have a bit more privacy than the others, due to separators that divide each set of bunks into groups of two, and if privacy will be an issue for you I would recommend that you request a second set of sheets and a bottom bunk when you check in to set your bunk with curtains.
That being said, I'd observed people on both the top and bottom bunks having slats supporting their beds drop. Additionally, the slats supporting the top bunks are exposed to those on the bottom and, if someone decides to kick the slats and then steal your sweatshirt, you're out a sweatshirt and your bed will sag for a night. The dorms all have lockers in which to safely store your property and are surprisingly spacious. That being said, as with all public establishments, it would be a better idea to keep an eye on your belongings and all of your clothes.
I stayed in a smaller single room for the final few weeks of my stay and that was fine, as well. However, whereas the dorms have a relatively powerful air conditioning system, the single room did not, and was slightly less comfortable in the high heat of the Sorrento Peninsula summer.
If you can handle, or if you would prefer, the social element and are not visiting Sorrento with any specific agenda or itinerary you might enjoy the forced proximity of the dorm-rooms and may find yourself in conversation with people you've woken up near. I observed nightly drinking and binging between people and groups of people that had not shown up with one another and had not left with one another, and participated for a short period of time.
The roof-top bar provides reasonably priced drinks and foodstuffs and a view that you will not regret taking full-advantage of. The sunset over the Naples Bay provides a full-on panorama and the sunrise over the hills to the east is better; both are enjoyable with the right company or on your own. That being said, it is a tourist-centric establishment so I would be remiss in my responsibilities to say that the beauty surrounding you will ease all tensions (see the photos included, which don't even provide the fullest extent of the view from the roofs).
There are restaurants that you will begin to encounter as soon as you cross into Sorrento and grocery stores within 5 minutes for those that would prefer to each fresh fruits and vegetables to prepared foods at certain points of the day. To the east is the rest of Sant'Angello, Piano di Sorrento, and Meta, each of which have their own set of commercial store-fronts, restaurants, etc. If you are looking for a quick breather from the relative glamor of the Sorrento proper, the scenery in each is slightly more plaintive.
It is about a 30-45 minute walk to the main commercial strip of Sorrento and, while in the mid-summer I would highly recommend making your way there as early in the morning as you can manage, the walk is easy. Positano is about 1.5 hrs away, after a short walk and bus ride (there are shuttles that will take you directly from the hotel to the docks for tours that will take you to both Positano, the Amalfi Coast, and Capri).
The staff is friendly and can provide suggestions as to food, drinks, bars, dancing, transport, etc. I needed some help with certain matters and Pasquale and Veronica (The property management whose names I may have spelled incorrectly) were very kind about lending a hand.
