Sevnica Castle is a beautifully preserved historical gem with stunning views over the Sava River and surrounding countryside. The castle’s interior is thoughtfully curated, featuring engaging exhibitions and elegant period rooms that offer insight into the region’s rich history. The guided tours are informative and well-paced, making the visit both educational and enjoyable. With its peaceful setting and well-maintained grounds, Sevnica Castle is a delightful stop for anyone exploring Slovenia’s cultural heritage. It’s also a nice viewing spot and has an for a nice short work around the castle, when yoi visit outside the opening hours.

Very well-preserved castle. Sevnica Castle stands on a scenic hill above the old town center of Sevnica. A castle once stood on the site of the present one, which was probably built in the first half of the 12th century. It is first mentioned in writing in 1309 as "castellum Liechtenwalde". During the Croatian-Slovenian peasant revolt in 1573, unlike many others, it escaped destruction.

Lovely place to visit, great guidance by the lovely tour guide, lots of interesting and fun facts about the place. And the surroundings around the castle are also stunning, as is the view into the valley where the town of Sevnica is. I definitely recommend a visit 👍

Decided to make a detour to Sevnica on the way to Ljubljana, and we were not disappointed. The castle has absolutely stunning views of the area. The tour is pretty good - lovely guide, and interesting artifacts. The curation was a bit all over the place, they have art from current artists from the area, they have a room dedicated to the firemen of Sevnica, and a room that’s dedicated to the Rotary club of Sevnica, and more. The rotary club room was a bit weird but I’m here for it! Would recommend.

The castle is not a museum but an edifice with programme housing HQ of local rotary club, municipal events and assemblies, wedding ceremonies, live concerts etc. Rich wine cellar, wonderful wall paintings and picturesque ceilings and many ancient details make a visit agreeble

This is the semi renovated old town citadel of the town which (if memory serves) was hometown of the current first lady of the US. It is not much but if you're there, take the guided tour, the place has a story that needs to be told.
