Shaka Surf School

We have attended other surf schools and this one is by far the BEST! My daughter received instruction, encouragement, and most important of all, kindness from her counselors. I cannot say enough good things about their level of care and commitment to these kiddos. I had 100% confidence in her safety during the camp. 10/10!

We had the best afternoon at the Shaka surf school. A day when memories were made as myself and my 3 kids enjoyed a brilliant lesson in a beautiful location. The team were fantastic, giving clear instruction and encouragement to all of the family in a managed and safe environment, for those not familiar with surfing. By the end of the 2 hours, all of us had managed to stand up on a board and ride the waves. I couldn’t recommend more, a day that we will never forget!

I can't say enough good things about the locally & family-owned Shaka Surf School! This is my daughter's second year of attending summer surf camp with Shaka and it's been an incredible experience each time. The instructors & owners have created a space where the kids are welcomed, empowered and excited to learn and crush their surfing goals! It's clear that everyone at Shaka loves what they do and are sharing that with their students. Shaka provides a warm and welcoming experience, and I would highly recommend them for summer camps as well as private surf lessons!

Shaka Surf is amazing! Chris was the instructor for our lesson and he was super knowledgeable and encouraging. He made us feel safe and supported the whole time. And with his help we got to catch some waves!! Will definitely be coming back for more lessons in the future!

Jenny invited me on a wemoons trip to Chile and I took a leap of faith, without really knowing what to expect. I couldn’t be more grateful for her support, guidance, sisterhood, and general awesomeness for the trip of a lifetime!!! This trip ripped my heart open and this sisterhood nurtured parts of my soul that I didn’t know I needed. I thought I was going on a surf trip but this trip opened up my soul again and connected me with more synchronicities than I have ever experienced. This was a deeply spiritual trip. Mama ocean humbled me. Mama earth held me. Sacred water. Sacred land. Sacred sisterhood. Jenny, you are the absolute best there is. I am so grateful to go on such a trip with the most beautifully curated set of events and group of women. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

Surf camp has been an amazing experience for my daughter! Fun, encouraging, safe and she is learning so much! Comes home salty, sandy and happy.

This week, my son had an incredible experience at Shaka Surf School Camp. The coaches were outstanding, offering expert guidance, encouragement, and personalized attention that helped him get up on that board and rip some waves. He made remarkable progress and had a blast. I highly recommend Shaka Surf School Camp! We will definitely be back!

Awesome experience!! We are a family of four, kids ages 9 & 11, all beginners and the staff were incredibly patient, great teachers and fun! Loved it so much we ended up changing our plans and going back for a second day. Thank you Shaka Surf team!!

My son and I took a lesson with Jenny and Grace. We are beginners, but have surfed before. It was a great experience. They did a great job going beyond the basics and taught us surf etiquette, ocean safety, wave selection and how to pick the best part of a wave to surf as well as many other things. Grace and Jenny were surfing with us which I found to be very helpful to see examples of good surfing technique and their enthusiasm was infectious.

Competitive surfers themselves, Shaka Surf School is probably one of the best options for lessons on Folly Beach. The Owner Jenny was a wonderful teacher for our groups first time surfing. I don't think I've met a nicer human in the world since meeting Jenny!

Chris and Jenny are absolutely amazing teachers. They took 2 city folk who have never surfed before and taught them how to read and ride waves within an hour. They are encouraging and incredibly patient - we highly recommend them. Plus, they have the best surf location on the beach.

Made arrangements months in advance as a present to the wife only to have them cancel last minute that morning via text. That would be ok, mistakes happen. Except they never called to apologize or reschedule and when my wife sent an e-mail asking about it, she didn't bother responding again. In short they are discourteous and unprofessional.

My two children went for one week of this camp this summer and loved it. One jumped right in and the other was more cautious. It was exhausting but they learned a lot. All in all, if you are looking for a surf experience for your children, this was great. The ratio of instructors to children was amazing. One in a lifetime experience! Definently worth the money!!!

I was visiting the Charleston, South Carolina, area for a few weeks and thought it would be fun to take a surf lesson. I've been wanting to take one for years and have been putting it off. I'm so glad I finally decided to look into it while I was here because I found the Shaka Surf School! I called to book a lesson and Jenny, the owner, could not have been any nicer. She told me she had two ladies coming in at 11:00 on Sunday morning and if that worked for me, her husband would be my instructor. We met on Sunday at a great location on Folly Beach. Parking was a breeze and the beach was very accessible. I was a little nervous because I had never been on a surf board and felt very self-conscious. Jenny and her husband were fantastic! The lesson started on the beach and consisted of site awareness, safety, proper techniques for "popping up" and stance. We were in the water within minutes and I rode several waves right away! I can't say enough about the professionalism and friendliness of Jenny and her husband! Shaka also offers Yoga classes but I did not have enough time to take one. I don't know when I will be back in the Charleston area but when we return my fiance and I will be coming to the Shaka Surf School for another lesson. I highly recommend Shaka for Surfing and Yoga. You will not be disappointed.

Best Surf Camp for Kids in Charleston! My 12 year old son spent a week in Shaka Surf School's surf camp for kids and it was one of the best weeks of his life. We visit family in Charleston every summer and I wanted to find a fun activity for my son. Over the winter, I found Shaka Surf School online and signed him up for a week. Jenny Brown, the owner, made my son's experience amazing. As I watched from the beach, I could hear her encourage the kids to "paddle, paddle paddle" and "stand up" Amazingly, most of the kids were catching waves their first day. And when they did, you could hear Jenny hooting and shouting "Good job." The camp had a great student to instructor ratio, so I felt very comfortable with my son's safety. I saw another camp down the beach with over 50 kids in the water and I could not imagine how they could keep track of that many kids. Shaka surf camp was small, manageable and very personal. Jenny made sure each kid had a great time and was safe in the water. They even did yoga with her!
