Shaka Tacoz

The Location: This is the perfect stop if you are driving back from a Kona coffee farm tour. ​Parking: Be aware that parking is limited, but we were able to find a spot right in front of the restaurant off the highway. ​Facilities: A pleasant surprise was the restroom, which was notably clean (always a huge plus on a road trip!). ​The Food: ​Fish Taco: I tried the fish taco and it was delicious—fresh and flavorful. ​Quesadilla: The quesadilla was also excellent. ​Service: The staff was friendly and welcoming, keeping the line moving despite how popular it is. ​Verdict: If you are touring the coffee belt, this is the place to eat. Great food, clean facilities, and a friendly vibe.

This was a great place to stop while traveling south from Kona. It is right off the main road. Had both locals and tourists in it and fairly busy. We got the fish tacos and they were fantastic. The tacos are made outside. Lots of flavor and garnished perfectly. They have an outside seating area in the back that gives some gorgeous views of the ocean. Laid back location. Definitely worth a stop if you need a quick bite.

This was the best meal we had during our week on the island. Service was fast and friendly. The dining area was extremely clean and compfortable for dining. Excellent music selection was playing during our meal. The Ono fish burrito is the best burrito I have ever had!! I high recommend the Mango chili and lilikoi ginger sauces!

This was a unique approach to serving delicious tacos prepared in a food truck which you receive at the food truck window then can eat in a small indoor dining area or even smaller outdoor counter area. Although very attractive and favorable, the onoe fish was rather dry. We had these tacos and a basket of chips and salsa.

This place is awesome!!! A true gem...the service, food, and smiles are top notch. My hubs had the grilled Ono, and I had the Barria Pork....both were so good. We will definitely be back. Thank you for the amazing lunch, and keep shining 🤙🏼

We are vegetarians and we loved the option to have soy chorizo in our burritos, tacos & quesadilla. Some of the best burritos we’ve ever had. Even the lime slices they give you are high quality! We came here twice and loved it both times. The chill mood, the kind staff… You can really see that the cooks are having fun and are singing and laughing while they prepare your food. The name of the place really represents what it is. Lots of love!

Awesome Food Truck Tacos. Had the three choice combinations tacos. Delicious. Best day to go is Tuesday for Taco Tuesday. Special pricing on selection combinations. My only negative opinion would be I wished the sold Coke products not Pepsi. They also have outdoor and indoor seating. Great service also.

This place is awesome! Very tasty food with fresh local ingredients and filling portion sizes. The sauces are the best - the "Lava" was really "hot"!! They have some really good vegetarian options, too! The best was the staff; she was so sweet and friendly! The view from the place is a whole another icing on the cake! They have a lovely deck at the back of the restaurant, and from there, you can literally see where the sky and the Ocean meet! The sunset from this point would be other-worldly! Don't miss this place if you are in the Kona area of Big Island, Hawaii!

Stopped in for the venison street tacos, $20 for three, and absolutely worth it. The meat was tender, flavorful, and seasoned just right without being overpowered by the toppings. The place has both indoor and outdoor seating, and I'd recommend grabbing a spot outside if the weather's good bc you get a clear ocean view that adds a lot to the experience. The vibe is relaxed but well-kept, and prices are fair for the quality and the setting. A funny bonus: while enjoying my meal, I could see a pig being groomed down the hill! Not something you see every day, and it somehow fit perfectly with the laid-back, coastal charm of the place. Service was very fast. Overall, great food, decent value, and a memorable setting.

Plentiful seating and enough parking right outside and across the street. If you come in the evening, you might get lucky and catch a beautiful sunset. Food was good! These tacos definitely run more of a local fusion than true Mexican tacos down the road. The carnitas tacos were basically kalua pig but still good! Make sure you order inside with the friendly workers and pick up your food outside at the food truck window!

They were out of soy chorizo, which is the only vegetarian option. The burrito was tasteless, they added beans, rice, Cole slaw etc. have had so much better ones in California. The outside has great views, but they have not added a shade so people can actually sit outside and enjoy the view. They ask for your phone number for your order even when you are the only one in the store . Their salsas are disappointing as well.

The fish tacos were a bit dry and flavorless for my taste. The mango chili sauce was sweet and tangy with no spice. The shop itself was lovely with a patio in the back overlooking the water.

I wasn't impressed. The fish tacos were buried under sauces and slaw, so I could barely taste the fish--though the fish itself was well-seasoned and tasty. Prices felt high for what you get. Overall, very underwhelming flavors for a fish taco. The worst part was the outdoor seating: yes, the views are great, but the patio was crawling with lizards. It almost felt like a theme, and it was distracting enough to kill the appetite.

Yes! They are really that good. In fact, the Ono Fish Tacoz are the best fish tacos I have ever had. Delicious! My kiddo enjoyed chicken tacoz and the husband enjoyed the Ono Fish Burrito.

These tacos were so good I could have kissed the guy who made them. We went to both the brick and mortar and the truck in the outdoor market, both just fantastic. And the server was super nice and helpful.

This was by far.... One of the best, if not the best fish tacos and burritos... that I have ever had The service, was amazing. She was sweet, answered everything that we needed to know. She took her time with us to and didn't rush us to pick. We just got here and can't wait to go back two or 3 times in the week that we are here The burrito. The burrito was by far one of the stupidest burritos that I have ever had. It was full, the sauce that came with it, which was the hottest one they have was phenomenal and probably one of the best sauces that I've had. I would bottle it if I could. Best tacos I've had in a long time! Great spot, easy ordering online and then you can take it outside to eat with a beautiful view of the ocean. The service was also really great and helpful Tried: chicken burrito, steak tacoz Loved: my steak tacos were amazing. Recommend getting the cheesy tortilla and the guava ginger sauce on the side - very unique but perfect with the tacos!

If you're headed down the west coast and find yourself hungry, Shaka Tacoz is the place to stop! It's casual, quick, and absolutely delicious. We each got the Original Shaka Tacoz plate and sampled a few different proteins. All were great, but the chicken really stood out thanks to its incredible marinade. We also tried the salsa verde and the mango chili salsa. Neither was overly spicy, unless you're sensitive to hot food, but both were packed with flavor. The mango chili salsa, in particular, I'd happily bottle up and take home. It would be perfect with a margarita! Although they don't serve alcohol here, you're welcome to crack open a cold one from your own cooler while you eat.

These are the best fish. tacos! The food is just so fresh and tasty. They staff is friendly and love the small local feel of the place. We eat here as often as possible.

I love this place. The lady at the counter was so sweet and seemed like such a fun person. I got the fish tacos, my first ever fish tacos and they didn't disappoint. The fish was very neutral so even if you don't like fish you would probably love these tacos. The fish was perfectly cooked and the pickled onions and romaine with lime juice made for a delicious bite. The surprise was the mango sauce. It was quite sweet and tasted identical to skittles lol, idk how they did that, but I loved it with the tacos. My husband got the steak burrito which was also delicious. The salsa is very tasty and thick, I hate watery salsa. Chips tasted crispy and fresh. I which I had time to try everything on the menu.

Tacos here are absolutely delicious and the service is great. I love that the tortilla is hot and has crispy cheese on it. The taco is packed with ingredients, they did not skimp. I really liked the fish tacos, which is what they're known for. They come with a mango sauce that was amazing. I also tried the birria and venison, both are good as well. Plenty of sitting inside. Good for big groups here. They got Bob Ross playing in the TV. when your order is ready, they'll text you to come pick it up outside.

I make sure to drop by Shaka tacoz every trip to the big island. Delicious fish tacos. Don't forget to add avocado to them and get a coconut water to drink.

The Ono tacos here are so good. They came loaded with a generous amount of grilled Ono and pickled onions. The mango salsa was spicier than I expected, but delicious! The jalapeños were the Super spicy kind, not the tame ones lol. My mouth was on fire after I bit one to test it, and I'm glad I did. I love that they don't hold back on the spice level and the ingredients are fresh. The rice was less exciting. You can walk around and check out the vendors while you wait, but it didn't take very long. Lots of outdoor seating.

Found Shaka online and when I asked a passing family how they liked it they said "do it, even if you aren't hungry, you should do it". Lol We were hungry and that was all I needed to hear. The fish tacos were great! The axis deer was also pretty good, but if I had to choose one I'd stick with the fish due to the added toppings. Wish I could try more options like the burrito. My son had the 2 keiki chicken tacos which just comes topped with cheese. He loved them! Great variety of hot sauces! They aren't just spicy, they also have amazing flavor. There is small bar like sitting area on the patio that overlooks the ocean. This place is worth a stop. Parking - Only handful of spaces in front of this location. Can park across the street if there's space or the nearby lot also across the street a short ways next to the park where we just missed a farmer's market.

Came as a party of 12 (2 infants), good for families. Plenty of seating if it's not busy. Saw a gecko!!!! The cheese brings a great texture and flavor profile to the taco. The slaw makes it so refreshing. Get the verde salsa. Try every salsa actually.

Parking is small but I found some on the street. The place itself is perfect for tacos & the outdoor view is incredible overlooking the ocean. I got the fish taco plate & the soursop cold drink. Best fish tacos ever and healthy portions. Tasty drink too. Service was very friendly. There was no wait when I went but by the time I left the line was out the door. Would highly recommend.

Omgosh we go to the Big island 2-3 times a year and we have tried to make it there but are mostly in the Waikoloa area but we were in Kona and decided to stop in happened to be at closing time we got the Ono tacos and Chicken tacos OMG we weren't sure if it was because we were hungry but amazing and also we had been on the island for a 10 day trip this was the day before we left we vowed to come back the next day ! Guess what? The only day they are closed Monday ahh so we are leaving Tuesday and so we planned to be there when they opened at 10:00 before our noon flight Yes we will be back

After going on a snorkeling tour, we came across this little hole in the wall of a taco place. It didn't seem like much at first, but soon after entering the restaurant an immediate sense of chill surfer bar came over us. They have a patio with an excellent view of the Hawaiian jungle, where we sat. This patio, in fact, had a plethora of geckos. It felt as if we were eating in the wild. I ordered El Pastor tacos with apple soda. The wait time for these tacos was about 5-6 minutes. Not so fast to the point where you are wondering if the tacos are fresh or even cooked, but not too long to the point where you are annoyed. When i took a bite of these tacos, i now didn't only see the jungle, i tasted it. The taco had a pleasing balance of meat to cheese to pinapple. the Taco had Hawaii written all over it, and even a hint of Mexico. #locallegend

We have had the opportunity to stop here a few times over the years. The food is yummy and the salsas are really flavorful. It's a great spot to catch a view on their balcony. The staff is always kind and friendly, even we came in close to closing time. On one occasion there was a mix-up in the protein ordered, and the staff quickly offered to fix the issue. It's a great spot to stop on the way back from a long day of driving on the South side of the island.

Day 3 of Vacation - We grabbed a bite after touring a Kona coffee farm. This was down the street from the farm. Parking: They have an extremely small parking lot. We got lucky with a spot. Free parking. Ambiance/Environment: It's medium sized space with a good amount of indoor seating. They also have outdoor seating with a great view of the ocean. The "kitchen" was outside in the food truck. Service: We ordered with the cashier then picked up our food outside when it was ready. The cashier was nice and efficient. Throughput was quick; we received our orders within 8 minutes. What we ordered: 1) Chicken Burrito w/ mango sauce - I ordered this burrito. This was a huge burrito and stuffed with so much ingredients! The mango sauce was sweet with a hint of spice. It gave the burrito an extra kick. I really enjoyed this burrito. 2) Steak Salad w/ mango sauce - My bf ordered this. The steak was cooked well. It sat on a bed of salad with generous amount of toppings. Perfect dish if you don't want anything heavy, yet fulfilling. 3) Steak Tacoz w/ verde sauce - My PIL ordered this. The steak was also cooked well. I'm assuming they really liked the tacoz bc nothing was left on their plate. 4) Fish Tacoz w/ mango sauce - My BIL ordered this, and he devoured this! I didn't get to try it, but safe to say their tacoz are worth every bite.

Well, yes!!! Go here for sure if you want the best tacos. We ordered the Ono plate of three because it's the most popular item. I usually don't like a mix of too many flavors, but this really worked for me - but with one tweak (tomatillo instead of mango salsa). Worth finding another day while on vacay to come back. Best meal I've had on the island in the four days we've been here.

Absolutely delicious and well worth the drive to this specific one for the fish tacos. The folks here are super friendly and it's one of those places where you know you're gonna get good food and service as soon as you pull into a parking spot. Hubs had the birria tacos that were almost as good as the fish tacos, and they were spectacular. Stop here for yums!

We're staying in Keauhou this week and I've heard such great things about ShakaTakoz that we had to come today and try them. The tacos are absolutely delicious so fresh tasting. I had a steak, a chicken and a pork taco. Every kind of meat was great. My favorite was the steak. My boyfriend had the fish tacos that he loved them. The sauces are so good. All of the sauces are also delicious. I had chipotle and verde. All of the staff were so nice. There's also a beautiful view of the ocean. Highly recommend.

Best fish taco I've ever had in my entire life! Get the Ono fish taco and enjoy the spicy mango sauce. The veggy toppings are all fresh and crisp. The fish was grilled perfectly with an excellent consistency for a taco. The total taste with the sauce, toppings, and cheese crust made this an easy 5-star. Service was pretty fast here with an easy order and pick up process. The ambiance is amazing outside with a phenomenal view of the sunset!

One of the best tacos I've ever had... and I know tacos since I grew up in So. California and been eating tacos all my life. I had the original Shaka tacos (pork, chicken, and soy chorizo - yum! I'll have to make it a point to come back the next time I'm in the area. Oh... shoutout to the staff! They were super friendly and very nice.

No notes - this place is perfect. Ambience, quality, flavors, service. Everything was delicious. We ordered the pork tacos and the ono tacos with a side of chips and salsa. The only thing I wish I had done different was order some other sauces to try. The mango sauce was bangin'. The salsa was delicious. I bet the other sauces are excellent. We had a little gecko friend chilling with us too. And the view? Beaut Everything felt like good value as well.

Tacos were amazing! We got fish tacos and plain quesadillas for the kids. The fish tacos were delicious esp the cheese grilled onto the tortilla, an unexpected aspect. Tons of salsa options too, it was fun trying them all!

Well worth the 35 minute wait!! Fresh and flavorful with enough options to keep a picky family happy. Very affordable by Hawaiian standards and a wonderful staff. I will highly recommend this to friends after a snorkel trip.

We landed in Kona and drove straight to Shaka Tacoz. We went last year and loved it and couldnt wait to return. The food is awesome and so is the view! The staff is friendly and service is good. The ono tacos with mango sauce are my favorite!

Good quality tacos. We got there on a Tues and was happy to see they have a taco Tues deal where all taco plates are $2 off. I got the tacos with chicken and the magma sauce (third hottest). You order at the indoor counter and then pick up your food from the truck outside once it's ready. The chicken was really tender and all the ingredients worked well together. Flavors were standard for the taco overall but the sauce was amazing! It's like a mango sauce but spicy. Worked well with the taco. My brother got the salsa Verde sauce which was really great as well. A thicker version of salsa Verde and really good flavor.

We stopped here thanks to previous Yelp reviews! I'm a sucker for fish tacos and these ones were delicious! My only complaint would be the over use of the pickled onions. There were so many on the tacos! Parking is a little tight. We ended up parking across the street and walking. This can take some time since it's a blind corner or cars coming. Super friendly service. An interesting set up. You order inside, give your phone number and then wait for a text that your food is ready. Then go outside and pick it up.

Yes! This was such a great lunch spot before touring a Kona Coffee Farm in the area. The prices are great and the portions are ridiculously large. We shared a carne asada quesadilla and couldn't finish it. Go there for lunch if you can. You will be glad that you did.

Here's the only thing you need to know: The food here is phenomenal. Great and friendly staff. Visually beautiful food. I ordered the new axis deer tacos and ono tacos. Followed by a pork and steak burrito with a cheese skirt like the tacos. Tacos were so good, that I went back and ordered a burrito just so I could try more of the menu. Wow. They had an amazing batch of sauces. I think they were all pretty balanced and not very spicy (even though it says 4/5 and 5/5 spicy level). I had the lava sauce, delicious, and the guava sauce, a little sweet but very good. The mango sauce that comes with the fish tacos i think is way too sweet and has a syrupy consistency thats too much for a taco. Still, overall. I could go and eat here every day and be very happy.

Kinda hard to find good fish tacos in Hawaii, but nobody can compete with San Diego, the original home of this delightful taste treat. We visited Shaka Tacoz, a unique kitchen work-around in Captain Cook earlier this week and I must say that the Ono tacos were extremely good. Full of flavor and very filling. Five stars for being innovative and offering the best fish tacos I have had in Hawaii!

This was the last stop on our Big Island trip and oh how I wish it had been our first. We're from Texas so we know good Mexican food and this place was better than most we've been to at home. My wife and I got the Ono Fish Burrito and the mango salsa was the perfect pairing for it. Everything was delicious and incredibly fresh. Kiddos got chicken, Ono, and Molokai venison tacos and each one was fantastic. Literally nothing was less than amazing. The service was great too. Very helpful and even helped us encouraged the kids to try something new. Ambience is chill, laid back. There's a back porch with an incredible view but it was full. Definitely wish we could have sat there. Do not miss this place on your trip!

Unlike other reviewers, these were not the best fish tacos I've had. They were mediocre, along with the steak taco. Even with the upgrade of crispy cheese, the tacos were underwhelming. I was shocked to learn Shaka Tacoz has been coined the best tacos in Hawaii for the last three years. In fairness to Shaka, my expectations for tacos may be hard to meet because the insanely great tacos in southern CA have set the bar high. Shaka tacos may be the best tacos available on the island. The menu is simple and straightforward. Choose an entree from tacos (3), quesadilla, burrito, bowl, or salad. Choose a protein from pork, chicken, steak, veggie, or fish. Choose a salsa from four salsas ranging in spice level. The highlights of our visit were the oceanfront view, the geckos hanging out nearby, and the friendly cashier.

Our whole family always enjoys our meals at Shaka Tacoz. We love the friendly service and all of the delicious options for tacos, bowls, and burritos. The ono is always a hit! But these days the Maui venison steals the show. Of course, the chicken is a mainstay, too. We are so fortunate to have this business located in south Kona.

Four stars for service! the staff was really nice I had the ono tacos and chips and salsa and the soursop soda, it's really like canned juice. it has a lot of sugar but I just love soursop the views amazing but make sure you wear sunblock and a hat if you sit out on the deck. they have nice accommodations for seating inside and I was pleased to watch Bob Ross paint while I ate.

These are the best tacos I've had in my life no questions asked, and I'm from Texas. I cannot recommend this place enough, their ono fish tacoz are the best speciality tacos I've had. While their chips and salsa was above average, come here for what they do best which is their tacos!

This place SURPRISED me!! I wasnt expecting such delicious, flavorful mexican food on the big island. We stopped by here on the way back from Hilo and be careful not to miss it on the side of the road! You order inside, pick up ur food at the truck and then can enjoy your meal inside the dining area. The tacos were reeeally good. Def a staple to get at a mexican spot so had to try. I like how the tortillas were crispy and I believe cooked with cheese. This is what rly set it apart for me! The carne asada quesadilla was also super flavorful. We got it with the Volcano Lava Sauce(?) which I dont really recommend haha it tasted like Da Bomb Beyond Insanity sauce if youre familiar with that. Probably will pass. BUT the orange sauce that came with quesadilla was delicious, opt for that! Would definitely come back here again!

Went at least 4 times on our trip. The fish tacos are so good with the mango sauce on them. 10/10 we went to both locations and they were both really good.
