If you're debating on whether you should spring for a stay at this place or settle for an AirBNB or hotel, I'll make up your mind for you: You're staying here. Trust me. This place is a jaw-dropper inside and out. The price is quite reasonable, too, for such an extraordinary stay. So do not hesitate. Click "Book" and feel good about your choice. My wife and I stayed in the Verona room for our anniversary, and we loved everything about this place. The stained-glass windows. The abundance of cherry wood. The owner, Isabel, who has lavished this place with love to restore it—believe me, it shows. We found the Shakespeare Chateau Inn Bed & Breakfast to be so romantic, comfortable, and charming. If you want to surprise your spouse with a weekend getaway, you'd be wise to pick this place for the occasion! Did I mention it's quiet, too? You will never hear the stampede of a hundred hotel guests here. No, you will find your sanity restored here if you need a bit of healing calm. We only ate breakfast here, but it was a treat: an egg-and-ham-based treat the owner named "The Hamlet" for consistency with the Shakespearean theme. It was delish, and the name made us laugh!

We stayed in the Romeo and Juliet suite, which was lovely and romantic. I wish we could have stayed another night, but this room is usually booked. The suite was large, and the jetted tub was a relaxing way to end the evening. The breakfast was okay; mimosas would be a nice option. I recommend checking it out. Overall, it was a great experience, and I would do it again!

What a remarkable stay at this Victorian mansion. The detail and craftsmanship throughout are worth the visit alone. Our inn keeper was delightful and took the time to show us around and explain some of the many features of the home. It’s obvious a lot of love has gone into this place. Always making a visit to a B&B special are the guests we shared breakfast with. A wonderful family. As an added bonus, we discovered the inn was featured in a movie back in 2019. It was fun to see some of the furnishings we had observed. Not a bad watch.

This place is gem! Historic, beautifully maintained and so inviting. Isabel the owner was lovely and engaging. The breakfasts were excellent. The front porch is perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine after a day of travel. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely stay again.

Very comfortable in luxurious suite. Attentive host. Delicious breakfast. This is an exquisite old mansion with many fine details. The needs of guests have been well thought out. Looking forward to staying there again. Quiet location is easy to navigate from for museums and Beltway shopping. Quiet.

This is my absolute favorite bed and breakfast! The owner, Isobel, is wonderful and she strives for all her guests to have an amazing stay and she also makes a great breakfast. The historic mansion is incredibly beautiful! Ever time I walk into this stunning mansion, it just takes my breath away by how incredible it is!

My wife & I had a thoroughly enjoyable stay at the Shakespeare Inn. Isobel, the owner & Innkeeper, was very welcoming and a wealth of knowledge on the history of the Inn. Our room (Twelfth Night Suite) was very comfortable & had all amenities required. Conveniently located to downtown, we were able to walk to town for dinner. Breakfast was delicious! We will definitely return to the Inn should our travels take us back to St. Jo.

I was in St. Joe for a conference and found hotels to be overpriced. This beautiful bed and breakfast was the perfect alternative to a noisy chain hotel- and offered so much more. Isobel was an attentive, welcoming host. Not only is the historic home beautiful, the amenities offered were next-level. I was served a delicious breakfast and enjoyed discussing museums and offerings of St. Joe! If your in town for business or pleasure, I highly recommend a stay here!

Yelp
I'd return to St. Jo just to stay at this magnificent B&B! I've stayed in many over the years and none of them even come close. Isobel has lovingly restored this masterpiece of the Gilded Age -- how special was it for me to stay it a house that could be a museum. But it was better than that, because I felt like I was transported back to 1890s America! I arrived on a snowy and cold January night and was the only guest (alone and doing research on the Pony Express). Isobel was waiting for me and was helpful with dinner suggestions (I walked 15-20 min. to Boudreaux's for a nice meal) and in giving me the details of my wonderfully appointed warm and comfortable room. You have to spend a night or two at the SC to really appreciate the place. Thank you Isobel for working so hard to keep this slice of American history alive for all of use to experience. Over a delicious breakfast, Isobel spoke of the house's history, and restoration. I could have listened all day but had to get to the PE museum and Patee house... But I'll be back. I don't usually leave reviews, and certainly not reviews this ecstatic but this is so worth your time and money! I can't wait to return with my family to experience this home with them. Thanks Isobel!

Yelp
This is a beautiful and comfortable place to stay. It is well run, clean, and has a delicious breakfast on offer in the morning. If you like sitting outside there is seating on the porches overlooking their gardens. The vibe is friendly and relaxing. I highly recommend this hotel.

Yelp
What an incredible place paired with equally incredible service. The Chateau was gorgeous and full of history. I've never seen a place with such beautiful woodwork and stained glass windows. Isobel was so kind to answer all my questions and dive into the history of St. Joe and the house itself, clearly a huge passion of hers. My wife and I stayed in the Romeo and Juliet suite and it was so cozy we had a hard time leaving. I was impressed how clean and functional everything was given the age of the home, Isobel left no detail untouched. Isobel was always available to address our needs. I showed up to breakfast an hour early one morning by accident and that didn't matter, she adjusted for me. The next morning I showed up an hour late to breakfast, when I went downstairs expecting to only have coffee available, she still prepared and served us our breakfast which was so kind and not expected. My only concern before arriving was the location not being very central. Turns out I was wrong. My wife and I could get to any of the restaurants downtown or off Fredrick in 3 to 5 min drive. Everywhere else in town could be driven to within 10min. We'll be back. (PS - Glory is wearing a jacket in photos only because we were on our way out the door. The home was set a very comfortable temperature and our room had an independent thermostat just for us.)

Yelp
My wife and I and our friends were given a tour of the Chateau by Isobel. First, Isobel is an amazing host and tour guide. Second, the house is even more amazing, if that is possible. The love put into restoring the house is felt in every room. The tea and scones we had at the end of the tour were first rate. We can't wait to book a stay and actually spend the night in the Chateau. If you need a place to stay or place for an event, this is the place. If you can't spend the night, then you have to do a tour.

Yelp
5 stars for a terrific B&B. When my wife and I decided to visit St. Joe for the holidays, we thought it would be fun to stay at a B&B rather than a hotel or relative's guest bedroom. After looking at a couple options around the area, we settled on Shakespeare Chateau. Located on Hall Street near Downtown St. Joe, Shakespeare Chateau is a beautiful mansion with tons of stained glass windows, historic carvings, and beautiful decorations (that were put in place in part for a movie being recorded there!) We arrived at the venue and were immediately greeted by our wonderful host. She explained how the experience would work and gave us all the information we would need. She also cooked us delicious breakfasts each morning and was an amazingly pleasant lady. After checking-in, we proceeded up to our room, which was entitled "Twelfth Night" and situated next to the Romeo and Juliet suite. The room was very comfortable and well-decorated, as well as being super quiet! The quiet aspect may sound strange, but we very much missed that part when we stayed at a hotel near the airport on our final night. Overall, Shakespeare Chateau provides a wonderful B&B experience. As my wife and I (as well as many of the travelers we talked to while staying there) would say, this is the best B&B in St. Joe and probably one of the better ones in the state and country.

Yelp
Unique venue with lots of charm for a small group gathering. Recently attended a retirement party here. The back dining room was set up with refreshments and light appetizers. The front great room opened into a second back dining/great room. Maneuvering around tables to speak with guests was a bit tricky but no real way to improve that and still provide seating. The house is beautifully decorated for Christmas. Overall this is a wonderful location for a small gathering.

Yelp
This is a gorgeous old mansion, built in 1885, which has been turned into an incredible bed and breakfast. From the moment you walk in the front door, you will be amazed at the stunning woodwork, staircase, tile floor, and gorgeous fireplace. Isobel, the owner, was happy to give us a tour and answer all of our questions about the home's history as well its restoration. Loved the pair of carved dragons protecting the main staircase too! The guest rooms are nicely appointed, the beds are very comfortable, and breakfast was both delicious and quite filling. Love this place!

Yelp
I told the wonderful owner Isobel that it was a privilege to stay at her B & B and I meant it. The Shakespeare is a 9000 square foot Victorian wonder with dazzling original stained glass windows throughout and magnificent wood and tile work. And the ceilings - also masterworks! The staircase with it's benevolent carved dragons at the base is beyond words. Isobel knows everything about her house and is a great host and a superb cook as well. I really didn't want to leave!

Yelp
Stunning Historic house, well cared for. Owner was very accommodating and gave us a tour. Great stay, but things to be aware of: Breakfast portions were smaller than I expected. Almost all furniture is vintage/historic. Guest amenities room is on the 3rd floor

Yelp
By far the BEST bed & breakfast I've ever had the pleasure of staying at. We fell in love with the exterior views and our jaws dropped upon entering. The owner Isobel was an absolute sweetheart and really makes the effort to accommodate any needs you may have. She gives an excellent tour of the property and makes a mean hot breakfast. Skip the continental option! Her baked French toast was to die for. I called a few hours prior and managed to book the Twelfth Night room. I believe it was 40% off due to making the reservation with 24 hrs of staying. Excellent deal! If you're in the St. Joseph area, please do make it a point to stay here!

Yelp
This place is awesome! My husband and I stayed here for Valentine's Day this year and were very impressed. Our room was beautiful, breakfast was amazing and the owner is a delight! The Shakespeare Chateau offers a truly one-of-a-kind experience in a unique, historical town. We highly recommend this place!

Yelp
I had the great pleasure of staying at the Shakespeare Chateaux in the Verona Suite. From the beginning, I knew my husband and I were in for a rare treat when the owner, Isobel, gave us an extensive tour of the home and a fabulous history lesson about the house and the town. We drank in her stories along with the eye-shattering beauty of the house. When we were left to our room, we were delighted by the comfortable furnishings that blended perfectly into the style and times of the house, clear evidence of an exceptional attention to detail. Later, after a dinner out, we opted to come back to the room instead of going out for an after dinner drink because we wanted to just be in the space. (I would highly recommend that you pack a bottle of wine if you stay here because you're going to want to settle in, too.) Despite a full house that night, it was quiet, and with independent temperature control, we were infinitely satisfied. In the morning, Isobel served up a treasure of a dish, a baked French toast that could revival an airy bread pudding. The main was rounded out with sides of sausage, fresh fruit, juice, and coffee/tea. With great reluctance, we peeled ourselves away at the end of our visit, carrying great hopes of a future return.
