I don't know why this is listed as a hotel It's a fortress from the 1200's. You could walk around the labyrinth walls for hours before exploring every nook and cranny. Nice for watching sunrise and sunset. Free admission.

🏰 Shali Fortress is such a beautiful place! From the top you can see the whole Siwa Oasis — truly breathtaking views 🌴✨ The best part is that there’s no ticket, we entered for free and could just enjoy exploring. 📸 Follow our adventures on Instagram: @trippingcouple

This is the magical place 🥰 Shali Fortress is a stunning mud-brick citadel in the heart of Siwa Oasis, Egypt. Built in the 13th century from kershef (a mix of salt and mud), it once sheltered the entire local population. Despite centuries of erosion, its towering ruins still offer breathtaking views and a deep sense of history and mystery.

The old Fortress settlement of Siwa. Abandoned in 1926 after three days of heavy rainfall is an interesting place to visit and it's free to enter.

Absolutely worth visiting! I went in the afternoon and it was already so beautiful, I can only imagine how stunning it must look in the morning or at sunset. I had planned to catch the sunset, but had to skip it to catch a bus.

A very cool place, one can see the entire oasis from the top. It takes about 10 minutes to climb to the top, and there's no entrance fee. It is somewhat physically challenging, and in summers it could get hot. In the past this was a defensive area, built out of mud and earthly materials, until sometime in 1920 it rained for so long that the mud dissolved... And we get the modern look without roofs )

This was a very unique experience, walking through the old winding corridors. There was also a nice viewpoint at the top. and it connects to a nice market area at the bottom.

Best thing about this place: free entrance! Only takes about 10 mins to get to the top and you can get a paranomic full view from the top. Wear good shoes! It does gets warmer in the afternoon so come earlier in the day.
