A Peaceful Gem in the Heart of Boudhanath – Hotel Shambaling
I recently stayed at Hotel Shambaling in Kathmandu, and it truly exceeded all my expectations.
Location & Atmosphere:
The hotel is perfectly located, just a short walk from the magnificent Boudhanath Stupa. The moment you step inside the property, the beautifully kept grounds and serene atmosphere instantly make you feel at peace — a true haven away from the bustle of the city.
Warm Welcome & Hospitality:
When I arrived, I was greeted with a beautiful welcome ceremony and gifted a khata — a traditional white ceremonial scarf — as a symbol of blessing and good luck. It was such a heartfelt gesture that instantly made me feel at home. From the moment I made my reservation, the process was seamless. Check-in was quick and smooth, and the reception team greeted me with genuine warmth. The staff — Meghna, Tashi, Norbu, and others whose names I may have missed — were simply amazing. Always smiling, always helpful, and genuinely caring. One night, when I returned later than usual, the ladies at reception were so concerned they called to check if I was okay. That level of personal care is rare and deeply appreciated.
A Wonderful Owner:
The owner, Jigme, is truly special. She personally checked in on me several times during my stay, making sure I was comfortable and happy. Her presence and genuine interest in guests’ well-being reflect the heart and soul of this hotel.
Dining Experience:
The restaurant staff were equally warm and delightful to chat with. The food was excellent — I especially loved the Nepali Thali, which was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. I enjoyed the food here so much that I often preferred dining at the hotel rather than going out.
Comfortable & Well-Maintained Rooms:
My room was spotless and well-equipped, with everything provided — from a hair dryer to fresh towels. Housekeeping was always timely, and the level of cleanliness was impeccable.
Thoughtful Arrangements:
The hotel arranged all my tours, as well as airport pick-up and drop-off. My driver, Ramkrishna, was wonderful — knowledgeable, friendly, and eager to share insights about the city.
Final Thoughts:
Hotel Shambaling offers a rare combination of peace, comfort, warmth, and heartfelt hospitality. It’s more than just a place to stay; it feels like a home in Kathmandu. I would highly, highly recommend it to anyone visiting this beautiful city.
