The Shanghai Grand Theatre is located at the intersection of People's Avenue and Huangpi Road South in
northern part of the People's Square in Huangpu District, Shanghai, China. Designed by French architect JeanMarie Charpentier, the building covers a floor area of 11,528 square meter. Interior design was by Studios
Architecture.
The Shanghai Grand Theatre regularly hosts the city's most notable classical music, dance, opera and theater
performances. Opened to the public in 1998, the Grand Theatre houses three separate auditoriums, the largest of
which seats 1,800, while two smaller, more intimate halls are reserved for chamber music and private events.
As you know, "The Blue Danube "is a very popular piece of music created by the famous Austrian composer
Johann Strauss. People all over the world love this famous waltz and many have danced to it . But have you ever
heard of the crystal chandelier which is called "The Blue Danube"?
If you step into the lobby of the Shanghai Grand Theatre, a huge crystal chandelier will immediately catch your
eye. This chandelier was designed and made in Austria. It is more than seven meters high and three meters
wide, and it has three hundred lights. Think how bright it is when it is switched on! The whole lobby of the
theater is lit up with magical effect. No wonder it is called "The Blue Danube"!
