Lunghwa Airport, built in the 1920s during golden age of Shanghai. It was the first and only international airport of the city back then, China's gateway to the world. It once welcomed Pan Am China clipper and was an important hub for CNAC. It's North-South runway was last upgraded in the 1940s, ready for the last generation of propliners like Lockheed Connie. Then history took a sharp turn and it never happened.
Runway turned into a linear park, ramp into a parking lot, with the old terminal building sitting there, forgotten in time. All it left was a tiny section of its former self operating as a Heliport.
Great place for a Sunday afternoon, if you know something about the interesting history around here.
Served as international airport during the city's 1st golden age and demolished prior to 2011 world expo, submerged by Urban development, it witnessed the 2nd golden age of Shanghai.
Looking back, it's sad to see that Shanghai has deeply fallen, from its once glamorous dreams.
