Overall, the hostel was nice. You get what you pay for. It had a very cute garden area, which was great for eating breakfast. The rooms were overall fine. They were a little small though, not much room for 2 people. The room, however, did feel a little...damp/humid...||||We had a private bathroom (nice for a hostel), but it was kind of weird. The shower, toilet, and sink were all in one area. There was no curtain for the shower. You are basically showering on top of the toilet.||||Positive: There was breakfast each morning (hard boiled eggs, pastries, toast, juice, the basics). It was a nice meal overall. They also sell water bottles downstairs in the lobby area.||||Positive: The location is great. It is close to the subway, and about a mile walk from The Bund area. It is, however, hard for Taxi's to find as it is not on the main road. It is also next door to a bar (The Beer Lady). The staff was friendly.

This review is for a private twin bedroom en-suite without a window.||Positives: A little oasis of calm right in the heart of Shanghai - lovely little private garden area with a swinging bench and water feature to relax in of an evening before heading out. Friendly staff on reception and rooms refreshed daily by housekeeping. Beds comfortable, free safe box in the room too. Location is probably the biggest selling point - just minutes from the subway, two stops from the main Shanghai railway station, one stop from People's Square where you can change for both airports and Hongqiao railway station. There's also a great bar just down the road called Beer Lady which we highly recommend!||Negatives: No elevator to the first floor (only a two storey building though, quite normal in China). We had a windowless room which we were aware of when we booked - had no problem sacrificing a view but after a shower the room became unbearably stuffy as the aircon was completely useless even if you left it on all day when you went out. Shower was ok although it flooded the entire bathroom floor every time you used it. Breakfast was alright quality - mostly Chinese options, with toast and egg for westerners. However, we found the breakfast room to be hideously crowded of a morning, nowhere near big enough for the number of guests staying there, so gave up on the breakfast after the first two mornings which was unfortunate. Also there wasn't much of a social atmosphere in this hostel, although it was mostly Chinese guests and they tend to be more reserved and keep to themselves more than western countries, so that may be why - certainly not the management's fault, more an observation.||Overall we were pretty happy with our stay - there was nothing else in such a great spot which could match the price. Would strongly recommend paying a bit more for a room with a window though due to the ventilation issues I mentioned.

As far as hostels go this place is tip too. Free laundry, free breakfast. The beds are sturdy so no crazy squeaking while you are trying to sleep. Some of the staff speak a little bit of a few languages which was a pleasant surprise but obviously not necessary for someone traveling cheap in another country. They have a mix of sit and squat toilets, and toilet paper-which is a rarity! Lots of communal space and private rooms available for about 40usd a night

I've stayed in this hostel twice for couple of days each a few weeks apart. ||First time: front desk was a boy very rude and not helpful. Dorm room was nice and roomy good design. ||Second time: front desk person was changed, nice helpful girl. But the dorm is tiny this time not so comfy. ||General: close to subway. Nice bar friendly bartenders and chef. Awesome breakfast my favorite. The shared bathroom was clean and roomy. It's sweet that they provide shower gel, tissue papers, hand wash, hot and room temperature water. Also they have a stable wifi, a fridge, a microwave, an elliptical and an average lounge. ||I will go back for my third time if I have the chance.

We stayed for four nights. Very close to a metro station. Only one stop to people's park / nanjing rd. |The bar offered cheap drinks, the wifi was only okay and tv had lots of channels. |We had a private en suite room. Great for hostel prices. The room was serviced every day with fresh towels and two bottles of water provided. The room was spacious and warm. I would return if ever back in Shanghai

The other reviews are pretty accurate; the rooms are fine for what you pay, but the various smells (it's a repurposed older building) and the shower flooding situation were a downer. I pretty much avoided breakfast everyday. I have a rule, if it smells like wet socks, the food's probably not that tasty. On a positive note, the location along the river is very good.

This hostel was the best hostel we stayed in throughout our whole trip. Without a doubt the best, by far! The staff were helpful, the room was beautiful, comfortable beds, huge lockers, a well priced bar, a beautiful roof terrace, walking distance to shops and subway! I couldn't fault it, I would recommend it to everyone, we had friends staying locally and their hostel was no where near as great as this one!So I loved staying here

Staff was friendly and the communal space was quite good for chilling. There was also free green bean soup at the reception area which was quite nice. It's about a ten-minute walk from nearest metro station.||||The room was cold and either had no heating or the heating was bad, we're not sure.
